Generalized evolution semigroups and general dichotomies

We introduce a special class of real semiflows, which is used to define a general type of evolution semigroups, associated to not necessarily exponentially bounded evolution families. Giving spectral characterizations of the corresponding generators, our results directly apply to a wide class of dichotomies, such as those with time-varying rate of change.

Admissible Banach function spaces and nonuniform stabilities

For nonuniform exponentially bounded evolution families defined on Banach spaces, we introduce a class of Banach function spaces, whose norms are completely determined by the nonuniform behaviour of the corresponding evolution family. We generalize a classical theorem of Datko on these spaces. In addition, we obtain new criteria for the existence of nonuniform stability.

Admissibility and general dichotomies for evolution families

For an arbitrary noninvertible evolution family on the half-line and for $ρ\colon [0, \infty)\to [0, \infty)$ in a large class of rate functions, we consider the notion of a $ρ$-dichotomy with respect to a family of norms and characterize it in terms of two admissibility conditions. In particular, our results are applicable to exponential as well as polynomial dichotomies with respect to a family of norms. As a nontrivial application of our work, we establish the robustness of general nonuniform dichotomies.

Admissible Banach function spaces for linear dynamics with nonuniform behavior on the half-line

For nonuniform exponentially bounded evolution families on the half-line we introduce a class of Banach function spaces on which we define nonuniform evolution semigroups. We completely characterize nonuniform exponential stability in terms of invertibility of the corresponding generators. We emphasize that in particular our results apply to all linear differential equations with bounded operator and finite Lyapunov exponent.

A complete characterization of exponential stability for discrete dynamics

For a discrete dynamics defined by a sequence of bounded and not necessarily invertible linear operators, we give a complete characterization of exponential stability in terms of invertibility of a certain operator acting on suitable Banach sequence spaces. We connect the invertibility of this operator to the existence of a particular type of admissible exponents. For the bounded orbits, exponential stability results from a spectral property. Some adequate examples are presented to emphasize some significant qualitative differences between uniform and nonuniform behavior.

Integral conditions for nonuniform $μ$-dichotomy on the half-line

We give necessary integral conditions and sufficient ones for the existence of a general concept of $μ$-dichotomy for evolution operators defined on the half-line which includes as particular cases the well-known concepts of nonuniform exponential dichotomy and nonuniform polynomial dichotomy, and also contains new situations. Additionally, we consider an adapted notion of Lyapunov function and use our results to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of nonuniform $μ$-dichotomies using these Lyapunov functions.

Thresholds for reduction-related entanglement criteria in quantum information theory

We consider random bipartite quantum states obtained by tracing out one subsystem from a random, uniformly distributed, tripartite pure quantum state. We compute thresholds for the dimension of the system being traced out, so that the resulting bipartite quantum state satisfies the reduction criterion in different asymptotic regimes. We consider as well the basis-independent version of the reduction criterion (the absolute reduction criterion), computing thresholds for the corresponding eigenvalue sets. We do the same for other sets relevant in the study of absolute separability, using techniques from random matrix theory. Finally, we gather and compare the known values for the thresholds corresponding to different entanglement criteria, and conclude with a list of open questions.

Dilations on locally Hilbert spaces

The principal theorem of Sz.-Nagy on dilation of a positive definite Hilbert space operator valued function has played a central role in the development of the non-self-adjoint operator theory. In this paper we introduce the positive definiteness for locally Hilbert space operator valued kernels, we prove an analogue of the Sz.-Nagy dilation theorem and, as application, we obtain dilation results for locally contractions and locally $ρ$ - contractions as well as for locally semi-spectral measures.

Exponential dichotomies of evolution operators in Banach spaces

This paper considers three dichotomy concepts (exponential dichotomy, uniform exponential dichotomy and strong exponential dichotomy) in the general context of non-invertible evolution operators in Banach spaces. Connections between these concepts are illustrated. Using the notion of Green function, we give necessary conditions and sufficient ones for strong exponential dichotomy. Some illustrative examples are presented to prove that the converse of some implication type theorems are not valid.

Positive reduction from spectra

We study the problem of whether all bipartite quantum states having a prescribed spectrum remain positive under the reduction map applied to one subsystem. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions, in the form of a family of linear inequalities, which the spectrum has to verify. Our conditions become explicit when one of the two subsystems is a qubit, as well as for further sets of states. Finally, we introduce a family of simple entanglement criteria for spectra, closely related to the reduction and positive partial transpose criteria, which also provide new insight into the set of spectra that guarantee separability or positivity of the partial transpose.

On the reduction criterion for random quantum states

In this paper we study the reduction criterion for detecting entanglement of large dimensional bipartite quantum systems. We first obtain an explicit formula for the moments of a random quantum state to which the reduction criterion has been applied. We show that the empirical eigenvalue distribution of this random matrix converges strongly to a limit that we compute, in three different asymptotic regimes. We then employ tools from free probability to study the asymptotic positivity of the reduction operators. Finally, we compare the reduction criterion with other entanglement criteria, via thresholds.
