Two-Loop Anomalous Dimension for Non-Global and Clustering Logarithms

We derive the two-loop anomalous dimension relevant for the resummation of subleading non-global and, for the first time, also clustering logarithms within the framework of effective field theory. Special emphasis is put on the choice of the renormalization scheme. We show that the modified minimal subtraction scheme is problematic since it requires extra dimensions to set up the parton shower to perform the resummation. We discuss a set of modified dipole subtraction schemes which are free from this complication and can be used to obtain a frame-independent result for the renormalization-group evolution. We implement the leading-color limit of our result in the Marzili framework and numerically verify the scheme independence for gap-between-jets cross sections.

Resummation of Next-to-Leading Non-Global Logarithms at the LHC

In cross sections with angular cuts, an intricate pattern of enhanced higher-order corrections known as non-global logarithms arises. The leading logarithmic terms were computed numerically two decades ago, but the resummation of subleading non-global logarithms remained a challenge that we solve in this Letter using renormalization group methods in effective field theory. To achieve next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, we implement the two-loop anomalous dimension governing the resummation of non-global logarithms into a large-$N_c$ parton shower framework, together with one-loop matching corrections. As a first application, we study the interjet energy flow in $e^+e^-$ annihilation into two jets. We then present, for the first time, resummed predictions at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy for a gap-between-jets observable at hadron colliders.

Infrared singularities of multi-leg QCD amplitudes with a massive parton at three loops

We derive the structure of three-loop anomalous dimensions governing infrared singularities of QCD amplitudes with one massive and an arbitrary number of massless external partons. The contributions of tripole and quadrupole correlations involving a massive parton are studied in details. The analytical expression of tripole correlations between one massive and two massless partons is obtained at three loops for the first time. We regularize the infrared divergences in the soft matrix element in a novel approach, where no extra scale dependence is involved, and the calculation can be performed in momentum space. Our results are essential to improve the theoretical predictions of single top and top quark pair productions at hadron colliders.

Møller scattering at NNLO

We present a calculation of the full set of next-to-next-to-leading-order QED corrections to unpolarised Møller scattering. This encompasses photonic, leptonic, and non-perturbative hadronic corrections and includes electron mass effects as well as hard photon radiation. The corresponding matrix elements are implemented in the Monte Carlo framework McMule allowing for the computation of fully-differential observables. As a first application we show results tailored to the kinematics and detector design of the PRad II experiment where a high-precision theory prediction for Møller scattering is required to achieve the targeted precision. We observe that the corrections become essential to reliably calculate the corresponding differential distributions especially in regions where the leading-order contribution is absent.

Bhabha scattering at NNLO with next-to-soft stabilisation

A critical subject in fully differential QED calculations originates from numerical instabilities due to small fermion masses that act as regulators of collinear singularities. At next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) a major challenge is therefore to find a stable implementation of numerically delicate real-virtual matrix elements. In the case of Bhabha scattering this has so far prevented the development of a fixed-order Monte Carlo at NNLO accuracy. In this paper we present a new method for stabilising the real-virtual matrix element. It is based on the expansion for soft photon energies including the non-universal subleading term calculated with the method of regions. We have applied this method to Bhabha scattering to obtain a stable and efficient implementation within the McMule framework. We therefore present for the first time fully differential results for the photonic NNLO corrections to Bhabha scattering.
