Uniform boundedness of small points on abelian varieties over function fields

Let $k$ be a field of characteristic $0$ and let $K = k(B)$ be the function field of a geometrically irreducible projective curve $B$ over $k$. Let $A/K$ be a $g$-dimensional abelian variety with $\mathrm{Tr}_{K/k}(A) = 0$. We prove that any $K$-rational torsion point $x$ of $A$ has order uniformly bounded in terms of $g$ and the gonality of $B$. We also prove a uniform lower bound on the N\'{e}ron-Tate height $\widehat{h}_{A,L}(x)$ in terms of the stable Faltings height $h_{\mathrm{Fal}}(A)$ for any $K$-rational point $x$ whose forward orbit is Zariski dense, proving the Lang-Silverman conjecture over function fields of characteristic $0$.

Integral torsion points on abelian varieties over function fields

We prove an analogue, over global function fields, of a conjecture due to Su-Ion Ih concerning the non-Zariski density of torsion points on abelian varieties that are integral with respect to a given non-special divisor. Along the way, we establish a Tate--Voloch type theorem for abelian varieties over completions of global function fields, which allows us to obtain a logarithmic equidistribution result for Galois orbits of torsion points.

A uniform quantitative Manin-Mumford theorem for curves over function fields

We prove that any smooth projective geometrically connected non-isotrivial curve of genus $g\ge 2$ over a one-dimensional function field of any characteristic has at most $16g^2+32g+124$ torsion points for any Abel-Jacobi embedding of the curve into its Jacobian. The proof uses Zhang's admissible pairing on curves, the arithmetic Hodge index theorem over function fields, and the metrized graph analogue of Elkies' lower bound for the Green function. More generally, we prove an explicit Bogomolov-type result bounding the number of geometric points of small N\'eron-Tate height on the curve embedded into its Jacobian.

Dynamical uniform boundedness and the $abc$-conjecture

We address the Uniform Boundedness Conjecture of Morton and Silverman in the case of unicritical polynomials, assuming a generalization of the $abc$-conjecture. For unicritical polynomials of degree at least five, we require only the standard $abc$-conjecture.

Arboreal representations for rational maps with few critical points

Jones conjectures the arboreal representation of a degree two rational map will have finite index in the full automorphism group of a binary rooted tree except under certain conditions. We prove a version of Jones' Conjecture for quadratic and cubic polynomials assuming the $abc$-Conjecture and Vojta's Conjecture. We also exhibit a family of degree $2$ rational maps and give examples of degree $3$ polynomial maps whose arboreal representations have finite index in the appropriate group of tree automorphisms.

The $abc$-Conjecture implies uniform bounds on dynamical Zsigmondy sets

We prove that the $abc$-Conjecture implies upper bounds on Zsigmondy sets that are uniform over families of unicritical polynomials over number fields. As an application, we use the $abc$-Conjecture to prove that there exist uniform bounds on the index of the associated arboreal Galois representations.

A lower bound on the canonical height for polynomials

We prove a lower bound on the canonical height associated to polynomials over number fields evaluated at points with infinite forward orbit. The lower bound depends only on the degree of the polynomial, the degree of the number field, and the number of places of bad reduction.
