Vaisman manifolds with vanishing first Chern class

Compact Vaisman manifolds with vanishing first Chern class split into three categories, depending on the sign of the Bott-Chern class. We show that Vaisman manifolds with non-positive Bott-Chern class admit canonical metrics, are quasi-regular and are stable under deformations. We also show that Calabi-Yau Vaisman manifolds satisfy a version of the Beauville-Bogomolov decomposition and have torsion canonical bundle. Finally, we prove a general result concerning the behaviour of the automorphism group of a complex manifold under deformations.

Bott-Chern cohomology of compact Vaisman manifolds

We give an explicit description of the Bott-Chern cohomology groups of a compact Vaisman manifold in terms of the basic cohomology. We infer that the Bott-Chern numbers and the Dolbeault numbers of a Vaisman manifold determine each other. On the other hand, we show that the cohomological invariants $Δ^k$ introduced by Angella-Tomassini are unbounded for Vaisman manifolds. Finally, we give a cohomological characterization of the Dolbeault and Bott-Chern formality for Vaisman metrics.

Toric Kato manifolds

We introduce and study a special class of Kato manifolds, which we call toric Kato manifolds. Their construction stems from toric geometry, as their universal covers are open subsets of toric algebraic varieties of non-finite type. This generalizes previous constructions of Tsuchihashi and Oda, and in complex dimension 2, retrieves the properly blown-up Inoue surfaces. We study the topological and analytical properties of toric Kato manifolds and link certain invariants to natural combinatorial data coming from the toric construction. Moreover, we produce families of flat degenerations of any toric Kato manifold, which serve as an essential tool in computing their Hodge numbers. In the last part, we study the Hermitian geometry of Kato manifolds. We give a characterization result for the existence of locally conformally Kähler metrics on any Kato manifold. Finally, we prove that no Kato manifold carries balanced metrics and that a large class of toric Kato manifolds of complex dimension $\geq 3$ do not support pluriclosed metrics.

Special triple covers of algebraic surfaces

We study special triple covers $f\colon T \to S$ of algebraic surfaces, where the Tschirnhausen bundle $\mathcal E = \left(f_*\mathcal O_T/\mathcal O_S\right)^\vee$ is a quotient of a split rank three vector bundle, and we provide several necessary and sufficient criteria for the existence. As an application, we give a complete classification of special triple planes, finding among others two nice families of K3 surfaces.

Variational problems in conformal geometry

We study the Euler-Lagrange equation for several natural functionals defined on a conformal class of almost Hermitian metrics, whose expression involves the Lee form $θ$ of the metric. We show that the Gauduchon metrics are the unique extremal metrics of the functional corresponding to the norm of the codifferential of the Lee form. We prove that on compact complex surfaces, in every conformal class there exists a unique metric, up to multiplication by a constant, which is extremal for the functional given by the $L^2$-norm of $dJθ$, where $J$ denotes the complex structure. These extremal metrics are not the Gauduchon metrics in general, hence we extend their definition to any dimension and show that they give unique representatives, up to constant multiples, of any conformal class of almost Hermitian metrics.

On a class of Kato manifolds

We revisit Brunella's proof of the fact that Kato surfaces admit locally conformally K\" ahler metrics, and we show that it holds for a large class of higher dimensional complex manifolds containing a global spherical shell. On the other hand, we construct manifolds containing a global spherical shell which admit no locally conformally Kähler metric. We consider a specific class of these manifolds, which can be seen as a higher dimensional analogue of Inoue-Hirzebruch surfaces, and study several of their analytical properties. In particular, we give new examples, in any complex dimension $n \geq 3$, of compact non-exact locally conformally K\" ahler manifolds with algebraic dimension $n-2$, algebraic reduction bimeromorphic to $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{n-2}$ and admitting non-trivial holomorhic vector fields.

LCK metrics on toric LCS manifolds

We show a bijective correspondence between compact toric locally conformally symplectic manifolds which admit a compatible complex structure and pairs $(C,a)$, where $C$ is a good cone in the dual Lie algebra of the torus and $a$ is a positive real number. Moreover, we prove that any toric locally conformally Kähler metric on a compact manifold admits a positive potential.

De Rham and twisted cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds

Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT) manifolds are complex non-Kähler manifolds whose construction arises from specific number fields. In this note, we compute their de Rham cohomology in terms of invariants associated to the background number field. This is done by two distinct approaches, one using invariant cohomology and the other one using the Leray-Serre spectral sequence. In addition, we compute also their Morse-Novikov cohomology. As an application, we show that the low degree Chern classes of any complex vector bundle on an OT manifold vanish in the real cohomology. Other applications concern the OT manifolds admitting locally conformally Kähler (LCK) metrics: we show that there is only one possible Lee class of an LCK metric, and we determine all the possible Morse-Novikov classes of an LCK metric, which implies the nondegeneracy of certain Lefschetz maps in cohomology.

Existence Criteria for LCK Metrics

We investigate the relation between holomorphic torus actions on complex manifolds of LCK type and the existence of special LCK metrics. We show that if the group of biholomorphisms of such a manifold $(M,J)$ contains a non-real compact torus, then there exists a Vaisman metric on the manifold. Moreover, we show that if the group of biholomorphisms contains a compact torus whose dimension is half the real dimension of $M$, then $(M,J)$ admits an LCK metric with positive potential. As an application, we obtain a classification of manifolds of LCK type among all the manifolds having the structure of a holomorphic principal torus bundle. Moreover, we obtain new non-existence results for LCK metrics on certain products of complex manifolds.

A characterisation of toric LCK manifolds

We prove that a compact toric locally conformally Kähler manifold which is not Kähler admits a toric Vaisman structure, a fact which was conjectured in \cite{mmp}. This is the final step leading to the classification of compact toric locally conformally Kähler manifolds started in \cite{p} and \cite{mmp}. We also show, by constructing an example, that unlike in the symplectic case, toric locally conformally symplectic manifolds are not necessarily toric locally conformally Kähler.

Twisted holomorphic symplectic forms

We show that a compact Kahler manifold admitting a nondegenerate holomorphic 2-form valued in a line bundle is a finite cyclic cover of a hyperkahler manifold. With respect to the connection induced by the locally hyperkahler metric, the form is parallel. We then describe the structure of the fundamenal group of such manifolds and derive some consequences.
