A Methodology for Assessing the Risk of Metric Failure in LLMs Within the Financial Domain

As Generative Artificial Intelligence is adopted across the financial services industry, a significant barrier to adoption and usage is measuring model performance. Historical machine learning metrics can oftentimes fail to generalize to GenAI workloads and are often supplemented using Subject Matter Expert (SME) Evaluation. Even in this combination, many projects fail to account for various unique risks present in choosing specific metrics. Additionally, many widespread benchmarks created by foundational research labs and educational institutions fail to generalize to industrial use. This paper explains these challenges and provides a Risk Assessment Framework to allow for better application of SME and machine learning Metrics

High yield synthesis and liquid exfoliation of two-dimensional belt like hafnium disulphide

Producing monolayers and few-layers in high yield with environment-stability is still a challenge in hafnium disulphide (HfS2), which is a layered two-dimensional material of group-IV transition metal dichalcogenides, to reveal its unlocked electronic and optoelectronic applications. For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we demonstrate a simple and cost-effective method to grow layered belt-like nano-crystals of HfS2 with surprisingly large interlayer spacing followed by its chemical exfoliation. Various microscopic and spectroscopic techniques reveal these as-grown crystals exfoliate into single or few layers in some minutes using solvent assisted ultrasonification method in N-Cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone. The exfoliated nanosheets of HfS2 exhibit an indirect bandgap of 1.3 eV with high stability against ambient degradation. Further, we demonstrate that these nanosheets holds potential for electronic applications by fabricating field-effect transistors based on few layered HfS2 exhibiting field-effect mobility of 0.95 cm2/V-s with a high current modulation ratio (Ion/Ioff) of 10^4 in ambient. The method is scalable and has potential significance for both academy and industry.

Large Area Fabrication of Semiconducting Phosphorene by Langmuir Blodgett Assembly

Although a considerable number of solvent based methodologies have been developed for exfoliating black phosphorus, so far there are no reports on controlled organization of these exfoliated nanosheets on substrates. Here, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, a mixture of N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and deoxygenated water is employed as a subphase in Langmuir Blodgett (LB) trough for assembling the nanosheets followed by their deposition on substrates and studied its field effect transistor (FET) characteristics. Electron microscopy reveals the presence of densely aligned, crystalline, ultra-thin sheets of pristine phosphorene having lateral dimensions larger than hundred of microns. Furthermore, these assembled nanosheets retain their electronic properties and show a high current modulation of 10^4 at room temperature in FET devices. The proposed technique provides semiconducting phosphorene thin films that are amenable for large area applications.

Know Your Phish: Novel Techniques for Detecting Phishing Sites and their Targets

Phishing is a major problem on the Web. Despite the significant attention it has received over the years, there has been no definitive solution. While the state-of-the-art solutions have reasonably good performance, they require a large amount of training data and are not adept at detecting phishing attacks against new targets. In this paper, we begin with two core observations: (a) although phishers try to make a phishing webpage look similar to its target, they do not have unlimited freedom in structuring the phishing webpage; and (b) a webpage can be characterized by a small set of key terms; how these key terms are used in different parts of a webpage is different in the case of legitimate and phishing webpages. Based on these observations, we develop a phishing detection system with several notable properties: it is language-independent, can be implemented entirely on client-side, has excellent classification performance and is fast. In addition, we developed a target identification component that can identify the target website that a phishing webpage is attempting to mimic. The target detection component is faster than previously reported systems and can help minimize false positives in our phishing detection system.

Structural, electrical and magnetic properties of nanostructured Mn2Ni1.6Sn0.4 melt spun ribbons

Nanocrystalline ribbons of inverse Heusler alloy Mn2Ni1.6Sn0.4 have been synthesised by melt spinning of the arc melted bulk precursor. The single phase ribbons crystallize into a cubic structure and exhibit very fine crystallite size of < 2 nm. Temperature dependent magnetization (M-T) measurements reveal that austenite (A)-martensite (M) phase transition begins at T~248 K and finishes at T~238 K during cooling cycle and these values increase to T~267 K and T~259 K while warming. In cooling cycle, the A-phase shows ferromagnetic (FM) ordering with a Curie temperature T~267 K, while both the FM-antiferromagnetic (AFM) and M-transitions occur at T~242 K. The M-phase undergoes FM transition at T~145 K. These transitions are also confirmed by temperature dependent resistivity measurements. The observed hysteretic behaviour of magnetization and resistivity in the temperature regime spanned by the A-M transition is a manifestation of the first order phase transition. Magnetization and susceptibility data also provide unambiguous evidence in favour of spin glass . The scaling of the glass freezing temperature (Tf) with frequency, extracted from the frequency dependent AC susceptibility measurements, confirms the existence of canonical spin glass at T<145 K. The occurrence of canonical spin glass has been explained in terms of the nanostructuring modified interactions between the FM correlations in the martensitic phase and the coexisting AFM.

Appreciable magnetic moment and energy density in single step normal route synthesized MnBi

We study the structural and magnetic properties of the MnBi inter-metallic compound. The LTP (Low Temperature Phase) MnBi compound is successfully synthesized in single step by vacuum encapsulation technique and rapid quenching from phase formation temperature. The phase purity and the magnetic moments of MnBi are highly dependent on heat treating schedule. The best phase purity and the magnetic moment are found for a sample heat treated at 310oC for 48h. Rietveld fitted X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed that the studied MnBi compound is crystallized in hexagonal P63/mmc space group with minute presence of unreacted Bi and Mn phases. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study is carried out to visualize the grains morphology and phase identification. The bulk MnBi powder showed appreciable magnetic moment of (62emu/g at 6Tesla) and maximum energy product (BHmax of 4.01MGOe at 6Tesla). The magnetic properties of synthesized MnBi show that it could be a potential candidate for rare earth free permanent magnets.
