Towards 6G Digital Twin Channel Using Radio Environment Knowledge Pool

The digital twin channel (DTC) is crucial for 6G wireless autonomous networks as it replicates the wireless channel fading states in 6G air interface transmissions. It is well known that the physical environment influences channels. A key task for accurately twinning channels in complex 6G scenarios is establishing precise relationships between the environment and the channels. In this article, the radio environment knowledge pool (REKP) is proposed, with its core function being to construct and store as much knowledge between the environment and channels as possible. Firstly, the research progress related to DTC is summarized, and a comparative analysis of these achievements on key indicators in digital twin is conducted, proposing the challenges faced in knowledge construction. Secondly, instructions on how to construct and update REKP are given. Then, a typical case is presented to demonstrate the great potential of REKP in enabling DTC. Finally, how to utilize REKP to address open issues in the 6G wireless communication system is discussed, including enhancing performance, reducing costs, and keeping a trustworthy DTC.

Exploring the sensing power of mixed vehicle fleets

Vehicle-based mobile sensing, also known as drive-by sensing, efficiently surveys urban environments at low costs by leveraging the mobility of urban vehicles. While recent studies have focused on drive-by sensing for fleets of a single type, our work explores the sensing power and cost-effectiveness of a mixed fleet that consists of vehicles with distinct and complementary mobility patterns. We formulate the drive-by sensing coverage (DSC) problem, proposing a method to quantify sensing utility and an optimization procedure that determines fleet composition, sensor allocation, and vehicle routing for a given budget. Our air quality sensing case study in Longquanyi District (Chengdu, China) demonstrates that using a mixed fleet enhances sensing utilities and achieves close approximations to the target sensing distribution at a lower cost. Generalizing these insights to two additional real-world networks, our regression analysis uncovers key factors influencing the sensing power of mixed fleets. This research provides quantitative and managerial insights into drive-by sensing, showcasing a positive externality of urban transport activities.

Emotion Twenty Questions Dialog System for Lexical Emotional Intelligence

This paper presents a web-based demonstration of Emotion Twenty Questions (EMO20Q), a dialog game whose purpose is to study how people describe emotions. EMO20Q can also be used to develop artificially intelligent dialog agents that can play the game. In previous work, an EMO20Q agent used a sequential Bayesian machine learning model and could play the question-asking role. Newer transformer-based neural machine learning models have made it possible to develop an agent for the question-answering role. This demo paper describes the recent developments in the question-answering role of the EMO20Q game, which requires the agent to respond to more open-ended inputs. Furthermore, we also describe the design of the system, including the web-based front-end, agent architecture and programming, and updates to earlier software used. The demo system will be available to collect pilot data during the ACII conference and this data will be used to inform future experiments and system design.
