Large deviations for a class of tempered subordinators and their inverse processes

We consider a class of tempered subordinators, namely a class of subordinators with one-dimensional marginal tempered distributions which belong to a family studied in [3]. The main contribution in this paper is a non-central moderate deviations result. More precisely we mean a class of large deviation principles that fill the gap between the (trivial) weak convergence of some non-Gaussian identically distributed random variables to their common law, and the convergence of some other related random variables to a constant. Some other minor results concern large deviations for the inverse of the tempered subordinators considered in this paper; actually, in some results, these inverse processes appear as random time-changes of other independent processes.

The entropy based goodness of fit tests for generalized von Mises-Fisher distributions and beyond

We introduce some new classes of unimodal rotational invariant directional distributions, which generalize von Mises-Fisher distribution. We propose three types of distributions, one of which represents axial data. For each new type we provide formulae and short computational study of parameter estimators by the method of moments and the method of maximum likelihood. The main goal of the paper is to develop the goodness of fit test to detect that sample entries follow one of the introduced generalized von Mises--Fisher distribution based on the maximum entropy principle. We use $k$th nearest neighbour distances estimator of Shannon entropy and prove its $L^2$-consistency. We examine the behaviour of the test statistics, find critical values and compute power of the test on simulated samples. We apply the goodness of fit test to local fiber directions in a glass fibre reinforced composite material and detect the samples which follow axial generalized von Mises--Fisher distribution.

Entropy-based test for generalized Gaussian distributions

In this paper, we provide the proof of $L^2$ consistency for the $k$th nearest neighbour distance estimator of the Shannon entropy for an arbitrary fixed $k\geq 1.$ We construct the non-parametric test of goodness-of-fit for a class of introduced generalized multivariate Gaussian distributions based on a maximum entropy principle. The theoretical results are followed by numerical studies on simulated samples.

Non-Local Solvable Birth-Death Processes

In this paper we study strong solutions of some non-local difference-differential equations linked to a class of birth-death processes arising as discrete approximations of Pearson diffusions by means of a spectral decomposition in terms of orthogonal polynomials and eigenfunctions of some non-local derivatives. Moreover, we give a stochastic representation of such solutions in terms of time-changed birth-death processes and study their invariant and their limit distribution. Finally, we describe the correlation structure of the aforementioned time-changed birth-death processes.

Skellam Type Processes of Order K and Beyond

In this article, we introduce Skellam process of order k and its running average. We also discuss the time-changed Skellam process of order k. In particular we discuss space-fractional Skellam process and tempered space-fractional Skellam process via time changes in Poisson process by independent stable subordinator and tempered stable subordinator, respectively. We derive the marginal probabilities, Levy measures, governing difference-differential equations of the introduced processes. Our results generalize Skellam process and running average of Poisson process in several directions.

Spherically Restricted Random Hyperbolic Diffusion

This paper investigates solutions of hyperbolic diffusion equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with random initial conditions. The solutions are given as spatial-temporal random fields. Their restrictions to the unit sphere $S^2$ are studied. All assumptions are formulated in terms of the angular power spectrum or the spectral measure of the random initial conditions. Approximations to the exact solutions are given. Upper bounds for the mean-square convergence rates of the approximation fields are obtained. The smoothness properties of the exact solution and its approximation are also investigated. It is demonstrated that the Hölder-type continuity of the solution depends on the decay of the angular power spectrum. Conditions on the spectral measure of initial conditions that guarantee short or long-range dependence of the solutions are given. Numerical studies are presented to verify the theoretical findings.

Mixtures of Tempered Stable Subordinators

In this article, we introduce mixtures of tempered stable subordinators (TSS). These mixtures define a class of subordinators which generalize tempered stable subordinators. The main properties like probability density function (pdf), Levy density, moments, governing Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) type equations, asymptotic form of potential density and asymptotic form of the renewal function for the corresponding inverse subordinator are discussed. We also generalize these results to n-th order mixtures of TSS.

Random spherical hyperbolic diffusion

The paper starts by giving a motivation for this research and justifying the considered stochastic diffusion models for cosmic microwave background radiation studies. Then it derives the exact solution in terms of a series expansion to a hyperbolic diffusion equation on the unit sphere. The Cauchy problem with random initial conditions is studied. All assumptions are stated in terms of the angular power spectrum of the initial conditions. An approximation to the solution is given and analysed by finitely truncating the series expansion. The upper bounds for the convergence rates of the approximation errors are derived. Smoothness properties of the solution and its approximation are investigated. It is demonstrated that the sample Hölder continuity of these spherical fields is related to the decay of the angular power spectrum. Numerical studies of approximations to the solution and applications to cosmic microwave background data are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.

Fractional Immigration-Death Processes

In this paper we study explicit strong solutions for two difference-differential fractional equations, defined via the generator of an immigration-death process, by using spectral methods. Moreover, we give a stochastic representation of the solutions of such difference-differential equations by means of a stable time-changed immigration-death process and we use this stochastic representation to show boundedness and then uniqueness of these strong solutions. Finally, we study the limit distribution of the time-changed process.

Fractional Risk Process in Insurance

Important models in insurance, for example the Carm{é}r--Lundberg theory and the Sparre Andersen model, essentially rely on the Poisson process. The process is used to model arrival times of insurance claims. This paper extends the classical framework for ruin probabilities by proposing and involving the fractional Poisson process as a counting process and addresses fields of applications in insurance. The interdependence of the fractional Poisson process is an important feature of the process, which leads to initial stress of the surplus process. On the other hand we demonstrate that the average capital required to recover a company after ruin does not change when switching to the fractional Poisson regime. We finally address particular risk measures, which allow simple evaluations in an environment governed by the fractional Poisson process.

Fractional Erlang Queues

We introduce a fractional generalization of the Erlang Queues $M/E_k/1$. Such process is obtained through a time-change via inverse stable subordinator of the classical queue process. We first exploit the (fractional) Kolmogorov forward equation for such process, then we use such equation to obtain an interpretation of this process in the queuing theory context. Then we also exploit the transient state probabilities and some features of this fractional queue model, such as the mean queue length, the distribution of the busy periods and some conditional distributions of the waiting times. Finally, we provide some algorithms to simulate their sample paths.

Limit theorems for filtered long-range dependent random fields

This article investigates general scaling settings and limit distributions of functionals of filtered random fields. The filters are defined by the convolution of non-random kernels with functions of Gaussian random fields. The case of long-range dependent fields and increasing observation windows is studied. The obtained limit random processes are non-Gaussian. Most known results on this topic give asymptotic processes that always exhibit non-negative auto-correlation structures and have the self-similar parameter $H\in(\frac{1}{2},1)$. In this work we also obtain convergence for the case $H\in(0,\frac{1}{2})$ and show how the Hurst parameter $H$ can depend on the shape of the observation windows. Various examples are presented.

Tempered Fractional Poisson Processes and Fractional Equations with Z-Transform

In this article, we derive the state probabilities of different type of space- and time-fractional Poisson processes using z-transform. We work on tempered versions of time-fractional Poisson process and space-fractional Poisson processes. We also introduce Gegenbauer type fractional differential equations and their solutions using z-transform. Our results generalize and complement the result available on fractional Poisson processes in several directions.

Four moments theorems on Markov chaos

We obtain quantitative Four Moments Theorems establishing convergence of the laws of elements of a Markov chaos to a Pearson distribution, where the only assumption we make on the Pearson distribution is that it admits four moments. While in general one cannot use moments to establish convergence to a heavy-tailed distributions, we provide a context in which only the first four moments suffices. These results are obtained by proving a general carré du champ bound on the distance between laws of random variables in the domain of a Markov diffusion generator and invariant measures of diffusions. For elements of a Markov chaos, this bound can be reduced to just the first four moments.

Fractional Poisson Fields and Martingales

We present new properties for the Fractional Poisson process and the Fractional Poisson field on the plane. A martingale characterization for Fractional Poisson processes is given. We extend this result to Fractional Poisson fields, obtaining some other characterizations. The fractional differential equations are studied. We consider a more general Mixed-Fractional Poisson process and show that this process is the stochastic solution of a system of fractional differential-difference equations. Finally, we give some simulations of the Fractional Poisson field on the plane.

Limit Theorems for the Fractional Non-homogeneous Poisson Process

The fractional non-homogeneous Poisson process was introduced by a time-change of the non-homogeneous Poisson process with the inverse $α$-stable subordinator. We propose a similar definition for the (non-homogeneous) fractional compound Poisson process. We give both finite-dimensional and functional limit theorems for the fractional non-homogeneous Poisson process and the fractional compound Poisson process. The results are derived by using martingale methods, regular variation properties and Anscombe's theorem. Eventually, some of the limit results are verified in a Monte Carlo simulation.

On rate of convergence in non-central limit theorems

The main result of this paper is the rate of convergence to Hermite-type distributions in non-central limit theorems. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first result in the literature on rates of convergence of functionals of random fields to Hermite-type distributions with ranks greater than 2. The results were obtained under rather general assumptions on the spectral densities of random fields. These assumptions are even weaker than in the known convergence results for the case of Rosenblatt distributions. Additionally, Lévy concentration functions for Hermite-type distributions were investigated.

Matérn Class Tensor-Valued Random Fields and Beyond

We construct classes of homogeneous random fields on a three-dimensional Euclidean space that take values in linear spaces of tensors of a fixed rank and are isotropic with respect to a fixed orthogonal representation of the group of $3\times 3$ orthogonal matrices. The constructed classes depend on finitely many isotropic spectral densities. We say that such a field belong to either the Matérn or the dual Matérn class if all of the above densities are Matérn or dual Matérn. Several examples are considered.
