Collective purification of interacting quantum networks beyond symmetry constraints

Following any quantum information processing protocol, it is essential to reset a mixed state of a many-body interacting spin-network to the computational-zero pure state. This task is challenging, both theoretically and experimentally, because of the quantum correlations. There is currently no effective cooling strategy for both high and low temperatures in such networks. Here we put forth a universal cooling strategy for multi-spin interacting networks. The strategy is based on the collective coupling of the system to an ancilla spin that intermittently dumps part of its entropy into an ultracold bath. Yet this strategy should overcome the symmetry-imposed correlations that impede the cooling. To avoid the prohibitive complexity of computing the dynamics, we resort to graph analysis of the network. %To approach the desired state, We show that a unique choice of alternating, non-commuting system-ancilla interaction Hamiltonians exists that breaks the symmetry constraints and allows the network to approach the desired pure state. We illustrate this universal purification strategy in diverse experimental settings.

Chiral quantum router with Rydberg atoms

We exploit controlled breaking of time-reversal symmetry to realize coherent routing of quantum information in spin networks. The key component of our scheme is a spin triangle whose chirality is determined by the quantum state of a control qubit which thus defines the propagation direction, or a superposition thereof, of the quantum information. We then consider a particular realization of a coherent router using Rydberg atoms. Our results can facilitate scalable quantum information processing and communication in large arrays of Rydberg atoms.

Quantum inspired image augmentation applicable to waveguides and optical image transfer via Anderson Localization

We present a quantum inspired image augmentation protocol which is applicable to classical images and, in principle, due to its known quantum formulation applicable to quantum systems and quantum machine learning in the future. The augmentation technique relies on the phenomenon Anderson localization. As we will illustrate by numerical examples the technique changes classical wave properties by interference effects resulting from scatterings at impurities in the material. We explain that the augmentation can be understood as multiplicative noise, which counter-intuitively averages out, by sampling over disorder realizations. Furthermore, we show how the augmentation can be implemented in arrays of disordered waveguides with direct implications for an efficient optical image transfer.

Excitation transfer in disordered spin chains with long-range exchange interactions

We examine spin excitation or polarization transfer via long-range interacting spin chains with diagonal and off-diagonal disorder. To this end, we determine the mean localization length of the single-excitation eigenstates of the chain for various strengths of the disorder. We then identify the energy eigenstates of the system with large localization length and sufficient support at the chain boundaries that are suitable to transfer an excitation between the sender and receiver spins connected to the opposite ends of the chain. We quantify the performance of two transfer schemes involving weak static couplings of the sender and receiver spins to the chain, and time-dependent couplings realizing stimulated adiabatic passage of the excitation via the intermediate eigenstates of the chain which exhibits improved performance.
