Measurement of Anti-Deuteron Photoproduction and a Search for Heavy Stable Charged Particles at HERA

The cross section for anti-deuteron photoproduction is measured at HERA at a mean centre-of-mass energy of W_{γp} = 200 GeV in the range 0.2 < p_T/M < 0.7 and |y| < 0.4, where M, p_T and y are the mass, transverse momentum and rapidity in the laboratory frame of the anti-deuteron, respectively. The numbers of anti-deuterons per event are found to be similar in photoproduction to those in central proton-proton collisions at the CERN ISR but much lower than those in central Au-Au collisions at RHIC. The coalescence parameter B_2, which characterizes the likelihood of anti-deuteron production, is measured in photoproduction to be 0.010 \pm 0.002 \pm 0.001, which is much higher than in Au-Au collisions at a similar nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy. No significant production of particles heavier than deuterons is observed and upper limits are set on the photoproduction cross sections for such particles.

Next-to-next-to-leading order soft and virtual corrections for QCD, Higgs and SUSY processes

I review recent advances in the calculation of higher-order soft-gluon corrections for a variety of QCD, Higgs, and SUSY processes in hadron colliders. A unified approach and master formulas for next-to-next-to-leading order soft and virtual corrections are discussed. I present some applications of the formalism to top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC, top production via anomalous couplings in flavor-changing neutral-current processes, W boson hadroproduction at large transverse momentum, and charged Higgs production at the LHC.

FCNC top quark production via anomalous tqV couplings beyond leading order

We calculate flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) processes involving top-quark production via anomalous tqV couplings at the Tevatron and HERA colliders. We cover the FCNC processes p pbar -> t Z, p pbar -> t gamma, p pbar -> t t, and e p -> e t. We go beyond leading order and include the effects of soft-gluon corrections through next-to-next-to-leading order. We demonstrate the stabilisation of the cross section with respect to the variation of QCD scale, and we investigate the reach of the Tevatron and HERA colliders.

W hadroproduction at large transverse momentum beyond next-to-leading order

We study the production of W bosons at large transverse momentum in p pbar collisions. We show that the next-to-leading order cross section at large transverse momentum is dominated by threshold soft-gluon corrections. We add next-to-next-to-leading-order soft-gluon corrections to the exact next-to-leading-order differential cross sections. We find that these higher-order corrections provide modest enhancements to the transverse momentum distribution of the W at the Tevatron, and reduce significantly the dependence on the factorization and renormalization scales.

Top quark production at the Tevatron at NNLO

We present results for top quark production at the Tevatron including next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) soft-gluon corrections. We show the stability of the cross section with respect to kinematics choice and scale when the NNLO corrections are taken into account.

Next-to-next-to-leading order soft-gluon corrections in top quark hadroproduction

We calculate next-to-next-to-leading order soft-gluon corrections to top quark total and differential cross sections in hadron colliders. We increase the accuracy of our previous estimates by including additional subleading terms, including next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic and some virtual terms. We show that the kinematics dependence of the cross section vanishes near threshold and is reduced away from it. The factorization and renormalization scale dependence of the cross section is also greatly reduced. We present results for the top quark total cross sections and transverse momentum distributions at the Tevatron and the LHC.

Next-to-next-to-leading-order soft-gluon corrections in direct photon production

Previous work on soft-gluon resummation for direct photon production is extended to include additional subleading logarithmic terms through O(alpha alpha_s^3) and some representative comparisons are made to experimental results from the E-706 and UA-6 Collaborations. The additional terms are small in magnitude, indicating good convergence properties to the level of accuracy calculated. The scale dependence remains much smaller than that of the next-to-leading-order calculation.

NNLO soft and virtual corrections for electroweak, Higgs, and SUSY processes

I present applications of a master formula for next-to-next-to-leading order soft and virtual QCD corrections to various electroweak, Higgs, and supersymmetric processes. They include Drell-Yan and charged Higgs production, single-top production in flavor-changing neutral-current processes, and squark and gluino production.

Two-loop and n-loop eikonal vertex corrections

I present calculations of two-loop vertex corrections with massive and massless partons in the eikonal approximation. I show that the $n$-loop result for the UV poles can be given in terms of the one-loop calculation.

A master formula for NNLO soft and virtual QCD corrections

I present a master formula for the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) soft and virtual QCD corrections for any process in hadron-hadron and lepton-hadron colliders. The formula is derived from a unified threshold resummation formalism. Applications to various QCD processes are discussed.

A unified approach to NNLO soft and virtual corrections in electroweak, Higgs, QCD, and SUSY processes

I present a unified approach to calculating the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) soft and virtual QCD corrections to cross sections for electroweak, Higgs, QCD, and SUSY processes. I derive master formulas that can be used for any of these processes in hadron-hadron and lepton-hadron collisions. The formulas are based on a unified threshold resummation formalism and can be applied to both total and differential cross sections for processes with either simple or complex color flows and for various factorization schemes and kinematics. As a test of the formalism, I rederive known NNLO results for Drell-Yan and Higgs production, deep inelastic scattering, and W+ gamma production, and I obtain expressions for several two-loop anomalous dimensions and other quantities needed in next-to-next-to-leading-logarithm (NNLL) resummations. I also present new results for the production of supersymmetric charged Higgs bosons; massive electroweak vector bosons; photons; heavy quarks in lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collisions and in flavor-changing neutral current processes; jets; and squarks and gluinos. The NNLO soft and virtual corrections are often dominant, especially near threshold. Thus, a unified approach to these corrections is important in the search for new physics at present and future colliders.

QCD corrections to FCNC single top production at HERA

We calculate first-order QCD corrections to the cross section for single top quark production mediated by flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC) in ep collisions at the HERA collider. We find that the uncertainty due to the choice of the QCD scale is significantly reduced. This study is motivated by the current experimental work for limits on the FCNC single top cross section.

Two-loop and n-loop vertex corrections for eikonal diagrams with massive partons

We present the ultraviolet poles and finite terms of two-loop vertex corrections for diagrams with massive partons in the eikonal approximation. We discover and prove that the results for a set of the corrections generalize to n-loop eikonal diagrams. These results will enhance theoretical understanding and allow greater calculational accuracy for the many partonic processes where the eikonal approximation is applied.

High order corrections for top quark and jet production at the Tevatron

An overview of the theoretical status of the top quark and single-jet inclusive production cross sections at the Tevatron is presented. NLO results as well as NNLO-NNLL and higher order threshold expressions derived from resummation calculations are discussed. Numerical results are presented for top quark production at the Tevatron, and it is shown that higher orders contribute sizable corrections to the total cross section and differential distributions, and they also dramatically reduce the factorization scale dependence of the cross section. For jet production, the scale dependence is also reduced but the NNLO threshold corrections are not very big.

High-order corrections and subleading logarithms for top quark production

We derive high-order threshold corrections for top quark production in hadronic collisions from resummation calculations. We present analytical expressions for the cross section through next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N^4LO) and next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Special attention is paid to the role of subleading logarithms and how they relate to the convergence of the perturbation series and differences between various resummation prescriptions. It is shown that care must be taken to avoid unphysical terms in the expansions. Numerical results are presented for top quark production at the Tevatron. We find sizeable increases to the total cross section and differential distributions and a dramatic reduction of the factorization scale dependence relative to next-to-leading order.

Effects of Higher-Order Threshold Corrections in High-E_T Jet Production

Results for higher-order threshold enhancements in high-E_T jet production in hadron-hadron collisions are presented. Expressions are given for the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) threshold corrections to the single-jet inclusive cross section at next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. The corrections are found to be small for the specific choice of E_T/2 for the factorization and renormalization scales, and the corrected cross section shows a substantial reduction of the scale dependence. A comparison to experimental results from the Tevatron is presented.
