Efficient precision quantization in AdS/CFT

Understanding finite-size effects is one of the key open questions in solving planar AdS/CFT. In this paper we discuss these effects in the AdS_5xS^5 string theory at one-loop in the world-sheet coupling. First we provide a very general, efficient way to compute the fluctuation frequencies, which allows to determine the energy shift for very general multi-cut solutions. Then we apply this to two-cut solutions, in particular the giant magnon and determine the finite-size corrections at subleading order. The latter are then compared to the finite-size corrections from Luscher-Klassen-Melzer formulas and found to be in perfect agreement.

Comment on the Scaling Function in AdS4 x CP3

The folded spinning string in AdS3 gives us an important insight into AdS/CFT duality. Recently its one-loop energy was analyzed in the context of AdS4/CFT3 by McLoughlin and Roiban arXiv:0807.3965, by Alday, Arutyunov and Bykov arXiv:0807.4400 and by Krishnan arXiv:0807.4561. They computed the spectrum of the fluctuations around the classical solution. In this paper we reproduce their results using the algebraic curve technique and show that under some natural resummation of the fluctuation energies the one-loop energy agrees perfectly with the predictions of arXiv:0807.0777. This provides a further support of the all-loop Bethe equations and of the AdS4xCP3 algebraic curve developed in arXiv:0807.0437.

The all loop AdS4/CFT3 Bethe ansatz

We propose a set of Bethe equations yielding the full asymptotic spectrum of the AdS4/CFT3 duality proposed in arXiv:0806.1218 to all orders in the t'Hooft coupling. These equations interpolate between the 2-loop Bethe ansatz of Minahan and Zarembo arXiv:0806.3951 and the string algebraic curve of arXiv:0807.0437. The several SU(2|2) symmetries of the theory seem to highly constrain the form of the Bethe equations up to a dressing factor whose form we also conjecture.

The AdS4/CFT3 algebraic curve

We present the OSp(2,2|6) symmetric algebraic curve for the AdS4/CFT3 duality recently proposed in arXiv:0806.1218. It encodes all classical string solutions at strong t'Hooft coupling and the full two loop spectrum of long single trace gauge invariant operators in the weak coupling regime. This construction can also be used to compute the complete superstring semi-classical spectrum around any classical solution. We exemplify our method on the BMN point-like string.

Quantum Stability for the Heisenberg Ferromagnet

Highly spinning classical strings on RxS^3 are described by the Landau-Lifshitz model or equivalently by the Heisenberg ferromagnet in the thermodynamic limit. The spectrum of this model can be given in terms of spectral curves. However, it is a priori not clear whether any given admissible spectral curve can actually be realised as a solution to the discrete Bethe equations, a property which can be referred to as stability. In order to study the issue of stability, we find and explore the general two-cut solution or elliptic curve. It turns out that the moduli space of this elliptic curve shows a surprisingly rich structure. We present the various cases with illustrations and thus gain some insight into the features of multi-cut solutions. It appears that all admissible spectral curves are indeed stable if the branch cuts are positioned in a suitable, non-trivial fashion.

Quantum Wrapped Giant Magnon

Understanding the finite-size corrections to the fundamental excitations of a theory is the first step towards completely solving for the spectrum in finite volume. We compute the leading exponential correction to the quantum energy of the fundamental excitation of the light-cone gauged string in AdS(5) x S(5), which is the giant magnon solution. We present two independent ways to obtain this correction: the first approach makes use of the algebraic curve description of the giant magnon. The second relies on the purely field-theoretical Luscher formulas, which depend on the world-sheet S-matrix. We demonstrate the agreement to all orders in g/Delta of these approaches, which in particular presents a further test of the S-matrix. We comment on generalizations of this method of computation to other string configurations.

Complete 1-loop test of AdS/CFT

We analyze nested Bethe ansatz (NBA) and the corresponding finite size corrections. We find an integral equation which describes these corrections in a closed form. As an application we considered the conjectured Beisert-Staudacher (BS) equations with the Hernandez-Lopez dressing factor where the finite size corrections should reproduce generic one (worldsheet) loop computations around any classical superstring motion in the AdS_5 x S^5 background with exponential precision in the large angular momentum of the string states. Indeed, we show that our integral equation can be interpreted as a sum over all physical fluctuations and thus prove the complete 1-loop consistency of the BS equations. In other words we demonstrate that any local conserved charge (including the AdS Energy) computed from the BS equations is indeed given at 1-loop by the sum of charges of fluctuations up to exponentially suppressed contributions. Contrary to all previous studies of finite size corrections, which were limited to simple configurations inside rank one subsectors, our treatment is completely general.

Constructing the AdS/CFT dressing factor

We prove the universality of the Hernandez-Lopez phase by deriving it from first principles. We find a very simple integral representation for the phase and discuss its possible origin from a nested Bethe ansatz structure. Hopefully, the same kind of derivation could be used to constrain higher orders of the full quantum dressing factor.

The AdS(5)xS(5) superstring quantum spectrum from the algebraic curve

We propose a method for computing the energy level spacing around classical string solutions in AdS(5)xS(5). This method is based on the integrable structure of the string and can be applied to an arbitrary classical configuration. Our approach treats in equal footing the bosonic and fermionic excitations and provides an unambiguous prescription for the labeling of the fluctuation frequencies. Finally we revisit the computation of these frequencies for the SU(2) and SL(2) circular strings and compare our results to the existing ones.

Classical limit of Quantum Sigma-Models from Bethe Ansatz

In these proceedings we review the results of [1-3]. We show on the example of the SU(2) chiral-field how to reproduce the classical finite gap solutions for a large class of integrable sigma models from their exact quantum solutions. These solutions are usually formulated as Bethe ansatz equations for physical particles on a circle, with the interaction given by the factorized S-matrix conjectured from Zamolodchikovs' bootstrap procedure. Our method opens a new systematic way to justify this procedure. As an application of our method to the integrability in AdS/CFT correspondence, we reproduce the asymptotic string Bethe ansatz conjectured eartlier in the S3 x R sector of the Green-Schwarz-Metsaev-Tseytlin superstring. The role of the Virasoro constraints in this setup is clarified.

Double Scaling and Finite Size Corrections in sl(2) Spin Chain

We find explicit expressions for two first finite size corrections to the distribution of Bethe roots, the asymptotics of energy and high conserved charges in the sl(2) quantum Heisenberg spin chain of length J in the thermodynamical limit J->\infty for low energies E\sim 1/J. This limit was recently studied in the context of integrability in perturbative N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We applied the double scaling technique to Baxter equation, similarly to the one used for large random matrices near the edge of the eigenvalue distribution. The positions of Bethe roots are described near the edge by zeros of Airy function. Our method can be generalized to any order in 1/J. It should also work for other quantum integrable models.

Determinants in QCD at finite temperature

We compute the functional determinant for the fluctuations around the most general self-dual configuration with unit topological charge for 4D SU(2) Yang-Mills with one compactified direction. This configuration is called "instanton with non-trivial holonomy" or "Kraan-van-Baal-Lee-Lu caloron". It is a generalization of the usual instantons for the case of non-zero temperature. We extend the earlier results of Diakonov, Gromov, Petrov and Slizovsky to arbitrary values of parameters.

Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz from String Sigma Model on S^3 x R

We derive the asymptotic Bethe ansatz (AFS equations) for the string on S^3 x R sector of AdS_5 x S^5 from the integrable nonhomogeneous dynamical spin chain for the string sigma model proposed in GKSV. It is clear from the derivation that AFS equations can be viewed only as an effective model describing a certain regime of a more fundamental inhomogeneous spin chain.

Fermionic determinant for SU(N) caloron with nontrivial holonomy

In the finite-temperature Yang-Mills theory we calculate the functional determinant for fermions in the fundamental representation of the SU(N) in the background of an instanton with non-trivial values of the Polyakov line at spatial infinity. This object, called the Kraan--van Baal -- Lee--Lu caloron, can be viewed as composed of N Bogomolny--Prasad--Sommerfeld monopoles (or dyons). We compute analytically two leading terms of the fermionic determinant at large separations between dyons.

Strings as Multi-Particle States of Quantum Sigma-Models

We study the quantum Bethe ansatz equations in the O(2n) sigma-model for hysical particles on a circle, with the interaction given by the Zamolodchikovs' S-matrix, in view of its application to quantization of the string on the S^{2n-1} x R_t space. For a finite number of particles, the system looks like an inhomogeneous integrable O(2n) spin chain. Similarly to OSp(2m+n|2m) conformal sigma-model considered by Mann and Polchinski, we reproduce in the limit of large density of particles the finite gap Kazakov-Marshakov-Minahan-Zarembo solution for the classical string and its generalization to the S^5 x R_t sector of the Green-Schwarz-Metsaev-Tseytlin superstring. We also reproduce some quantum effects: the BMN limit and the quantum homogeneous spin chain similar to the one describing the bosonic sector of the one-loop N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. We discuss the prospects of generalization of these Bethe equations to the full superstring sigma-model.

Fermionic determinant for dyons and instantons with nontrivial holonomy

We calculate exactly the functional determinant for fermions in fundamental representation of SU(2) in the background of periodic instanton with non-trivial value of the Polyakov line at spatial infinity. The determinant depends on the value of the holonomy v, the temperature, and the parameter r_12, which at large values can be treated as separation between the Bogomolny--Prasad--Sommerfeld monopoles (or dyons) which constitute the periodic instanton. We find a compact expression for small and large r_12 and compute the determinant numerically for arbitrary r_12 and v.

SU(N) caloron measure and its relation to instantons

Calorons of the SU(N) gauge group with non-trivial holonomy, i.e. periodic instantons with arbitrary eigenvalues of the Polyakov line at spatial infinity, can be viewed as composed of N Bogomolnyi--Prasad--Sommerfeld (BPS) monopoles or dyons. Using the metric of the caloron moduli space found previously we compute the integration measure over caloron collective coordinates in terms of the constituent monopole positions and their U(1) phases. In the limit of small separations between dyons and/or trivial holonomy, calorons reduce locally to the standard instantons whose traditional collective coordinates are the instanton center, size and orientation in the color space. We show that in this limit the instanton collective coordinates can be explicitly written through dyons positions and phases, and that the N-dyon measure coincides exactly with the standard instanton one.

Quantum weights of dyons and of instantons with non-trivial holonomy

We calculate exactly functional determinants for quantum oscillations about periodic instantons with non-trivial value of the Polyakov line at spatial infinity. Hence, we find the weight or the probability with which calorons with non-trivial holonomy occur in the Yang--Mills partition function. The weight depends on the value of the holonomy, the temperature, Lambda_QCD, and the separation between the BPS monopoles (or dyons) which constitute the periodic instanton. At large separation between constituent dyons, the quantum measure factorizes into a product of individual dyon measures, times a definite interaction energy. We present an argument that at temperatures below a critical one related to Lambda_QCD, trivial holonomy is unstable, and that calorons ``ionize'' into separate dyons.
