On the Obtaining Solutions of Nonlinear Differential Equations by Means of the Solutions of Simpler Linear or Nonlinear Differential Equations

In this article, we follow an idea that is opposite to the idea of Hopf and Cole: we use transformations in order to transform simpler linear or nonlinear differential equations (with known solutions) to more complicated nonlinear differential equations. In such a way, we can obtain numerous exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations. We apply this methodology to the classical parabolic differential equation (the wave equation), to the classical hyperbolic differential equation (the heat equation), and to the classical elliptic differential equation (Laplace equation). In addition, we use the methodology to obtain exact solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by means of the solutions of linear differential equations and by means of the solutions of the nonlinear differential equations of Bernoulli and Riccati. Finally, we demonstrate the capacity of the methodology to lead to exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations on the basis of known solutions of other nonlinear partial differential equations. As an example of this, we use the Korteweg--de Vries equation and its solutions. Traveling wave solutions of nonlinear differential equations are of special interest in this article. We demonstrate the existence of the following phenomena described by some of the obtained solutions: (i) occurrence of the solitary wave--solitary antiwave from the solution, which is zero at the initial moment (analogy of an occurrence of particle and antiparticle from the vacuum); (ii) splitting of a nonlinear solitary wave into two solitary waves (analogy of splitting of a particle into two particles); (iii) soliton behavior of some of the obtained waves; (iv) existence of solitons which move with the same velocity despite the different shape and amplitude of the solitons.

On the mathematical theory of news waves

We discuss the spread of a piece of news in a population. This is modeled by SIR model of epidemic spread. The model can be reduced to a nonlinear differential equation for the number of people affected by the news of interest. The differential equation has an exponential nonlinearity and it can be approximated by a sequence of nonlinear differential equations with polynomial nonlinearities. Exact solutions to these equations can be obtained by the Simple Equations Method (SEsM). Some of these exact solutions can be used to model a class of waves associated with the spread of the news in a population. The presence of exact solutions allow to study in detail the dependence of the amplitude and the time horizon of the news waves on the wave parameters such as the size of the population, initial number of spreaders of the piece of the news, transmission rate and recovery rate. This allows for recommendations about the change of wave parameters in order to achieve a large amplitude or appropriate time horizon of the news wave. We discuss 5 types of news waves on the basis of the values of the transmission rate and recovery rate - the types A,B,C,D and E of news waves. In addition, we discuss the possibility of building wavetrains by news waves. There are three possible kinds of wavetrains with respect of the amplitude of the wave: increasing wavetrain, decreasing wavetrain, and mixed wavetrain. The increasing wavetrain is especially interesting as it is connected to an increasing amplitude of the news wave with respect to the amplitude of the previous wave of the wavetrain. It can find applications in advertising, propaganda, etc.

Probability distribution connected to stationary flow of substance in a channel of network containing finite number of arms

We discuss a channel consisting of nodes of a network and lines which connect these nodes and form ways for motion of a substance through the channel. We study stationary flow of substance for channel which arms contain finite number of nodes each and obtain probability distribution for substance in arms of this channel. Finally we calculate Shannon information measure for the case of stationary flow of substance in a simple channel consisting of a single arm having just three nodes.

The Simple Equations Method (SEsM) and the use of exponential functions for obtaining simple and multisoliton solutions of some nonlinear partial differential equations

We discuss the last version as well as applications of a method for obtaining exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. As this version is based on more than one simple equation we call it Simple Equations Method (SEsM). SEsM contains as particular case the Modified Method of Simplest Equation (MMSE) for the case when we use one simple equation and the solution is searched as power series of the solution of the simple equation. SEsM contains as particular cases many other methodologies for obtaining exact solutions of non-linear partial differential equations. We demonstrate that SEsM can lead to multisoliton solutions of integrable nonlinear partial differential equations and in addition we demonstrate that SEsM keeps the property of the Modified Method of Simplest Equation to lead to exact solutions of nonitegrable nonlinear partial differential equations.

Simple equations method (SEsM) and some of its numerous particular cases

We discuss a new version of a method for obtaining exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. We call this method the Simple Equations Method (SEsM). The method is based on representation of the searched solution as function of solutions of one or several simple equations. We show that SEsM contains as particular case the Modified Method of Simplest Equation, G'/G - method, Exp-function method, Tanh-method and the method of Fourier series for obtaining exact and approximate solutions of linear differential equations. These methods are only a small part of the large amount of methods that are particular cases of the methodology of SEsM.

Simple Equations methodology (SEsM) for searching of multisolitons and other exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations

We discuss a version the methodology for obtaining exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations based on the possibility for use of: (i) more than one simplest equation; (ii) relationship that contains as particular cases the relationship used by Hirota \cite{hirota} and the relationship used in the previous version of the methodology; (iii) transformation of the solution that contains as particular case the possibility of use of the Painleve expansion; (iv) more than one balance equation. The discussed version of the methodology allows: (i) obtaining multi-soliton solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations if such solutions do exist; (ii) obtaining particular solutions of nonintegrable nonlinear partial differential equations. Several examples for the application of the methodology are discussed. Special attention is devoted to the use of the simplest equation $f_ξ=n[f^{(n-1)/n} - f^{(n+1)/n}]$ where $n$ is a positive real number. This simplest equation allows us to obtain exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations containing fractional powers.

Modified method of simplest equation for obtaining exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations: past and present

We present a short review of the evolution of the methodology of the Method of simplest equation for obtaining exact particular solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations (NPDEs) and the recent extension of a version of this methodology called Modified method of simplest equation. This extension makes the methodology capable to lead to solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations that are more complicated than a single solitary wave.

Statistical analysis of the water level of Huang He river (Yellow river) in China

Very high water levels of the large rivers are extremely dangerous events that can lead to large floods and loss of property and thousands and even tens of thousands human lives. The information from the systematical monitoring of the water levels allows us to obtain probability distributions for the extremely high values of the water levels of the rivers of interest. In this article we study time series containing information from more than 10 years of satellite observation of the water level of the Huang He river (Yellow river) in China. We show that the corresponding extreme values distribution is the Weibull distribution and determine the parameters of the distribution. The obtained results may help for evaluation of risks associated with floods for the population and villages in the corresponding region of the Huang He river.

On the statistical distributions of substance moving through the nodes of a channel of network

We discuss a model of motion of substance through the nodes of a channel of a network. The channel can be modeled by a chain of urns where each urn can exchange substance with the neighboring urns. In addition the urns can exchange substance with the network nodes and the new point is that we include in the model the possibility for exchange of substance among the urns (nodes) and the environment of the network. We consider stationary regime of motion of substance through a finite channel (stationary regime of exchange of substance along the chain of urns) and obtain a class of statistical distributions of substance in the nodes of the channel. Our attention is focused on this class of distributions and we show that for the case of finite channel the obtained class of distributions contains as particular cases truncated versions of the families of distributions of Katz, Ord, Kemp, etc. The theory for the case of infinite chain of urns is presented in the Appendix.

Mathematical model of a flow of reacting substances in a channel of network

Complex systems often have features that can be modeled by advanced mathematical tools [1]. Of special interests are the features of complex systems that have a network structure as such systems are important for modeling technological and social processes [3, 4]. In our previous research we have discussed the flow of a single substance in a channel of network. It may happen however that two substances flow in the same channel of network. In addition the substances may react and then the question arises about the distribution of the amounts of the substances in the segments of the channel. A study of the dynamics of the flow of the substances as well as a study of the distribution of the substances is presented in this paper on the base of a discrete - time model of flow of substances in the nodes of a channel of a network.

On the Mathematical Theory of Human Migration: Model of a Migration Channel with a Secondary and a Tertiary Arm

We study the motion of substance in a finite channel that belongs to a network. The channel splits to two arms in a node of the network. There is an additional split of the secondary arm. We obtain analytical relationships for the distribution of the substance in the nodes of the channel for the case of stationary regime of the motion of the substance in the arms of the channel. The obtained results are discussed from the point of view of application of the model to migration dynamics: model of motion of migrants in a channel consisting of chains of countries with different probabilities for obtaining permission to stay for the migrants in the different countries of the channel

We discuss a class of hyperbolic reaction-diffusion equations and apply the modified method of simplest equation in order to obtain an exact solution of an equation of this class (namely the equation that contains polynomial nonlinearity of fourth order). We use the equation of Bernoulli as a simplest equation and obtain traveling wave solution of a kink kind for the studied nonlinear reaction-diffusion equation.

Discrete-time model for a substance motion in a channel of a network. Application to a human migration channel

We discuss a discrete-time model for motion of substance in a channel of a network. For the case of stationary motion of the substance and for the case of time-independent values of the parameters of the model we obtain a new class of statistical distributions that describe the distribution of the substance along the nodes of the channel. The case of interaction between a kind of substance specific for a node of the network and another kind of substance that is leaked from the channel is studied in presence of possibility for conversion between the two substances. Several scenarios connected to the dynamics of the two kinds of substances are described. The studied models: (i) model of motion of substance through a channel of a network, and (ii) model of interaction between two kinds of substances in a network node connected to the channel, are discussed from the point of view of human migration dynamics and interaction between the population of migrants and the native population of a country.

On a flow of substance in a channel of network that contains a main arm and two branches

We study the motion of a substance in a channel that is part of a network. The channel has 3 arms and consists of nodes of the network and edges that connect the nodes and form ways for motion of the substance. Stationary regime of the flow of the substance in the channel is discussed and statistical distributions for the amount of substance in the nodes of the channel are obtained. These distributions for each of the three arms of the channel contain as particular case famous long-tail distributions such as Waring distribution, Yule-Simon distribution and Zipf distribution. The obtained results are discussed from the point of view of technological applications of the model (e.g., the motion of the substance is considered to happen in a complex technological system and the obtained analytical relationships for the distribution of the substance in the nodes of the channel represents the distribution of the substance in the corresponding cells of the technological chains). A possible application of the obtained results for description of human migration in migration channels is discussed too.

Solitary wave solutions of several nonlinear PDEs modeling shallow water waves

We apply the version of the method of simplest equation called modified method of simplest equation for obtaining exact traveling wave solutions of a class of equations that contain as particular case a nonlinear PDE that models shallow water waves in viscous fluid (Topper-Kawahara equation). As simplest equation we use a version of the Riccati equation. We obtain two exact traveling wave solutions of equations from the studied class of equations and discuss the question of imposing boundary conditions on one of these solutions.
