Anisotropic pressure of magnetized quark matter with anomalous magnetic moment

We investigate magnetic field $(eB)$ dependence of constituent quark mass, the longitudinal and transverse pressure as well as the magnetization and magnetic susceptibility of strongly interacting quark matter. We employ the two-flavour Polyakov Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the inclusion of the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks at finite temperature $(T)$ and finite quark chemical potential $(μ_q)$ capturing different stages of chiral phase transition. We find that the transverse pressure, magnetization and magnetic susceptibility become highly oscillatory for large values of $eB$ in the chiral symmetry broken phase. However the oscillations cease to occur at higher values of $T$ and $μ_q$ when chiral symmetry is (partially) restored and the anisotropic nature of the pressure becomes significant even at smaller values of $eB$. As the inclusion of AMM of the quarks leads to inverse magnetic catalysis of the transition temperature we observe that the variations of transverse pressure, magnetization and magnetic susceptibility are significantly modified in the vicinity of the chiral transition temperature. Furthermore, above the chiral transition temperature the magnetic susceptibility is found to remain positive for a wide range of $eB$ indicating a paramagnetic character of the strongly interacting quark matter. Finally, we have also examined the magnetism of strongly interacting matter in the quarkyonic phase. The obtained results could be useful for a magnetohydrodynamic evolution of hot and dense matter created in heavy-ion collisions.

Insignificance of the anomalous magnetic moment of the quarks in presence of chiral imbalance

We incorporate the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of quarks in the framework of PNJL model to study hot and dense magnetised matter with chiral imbalance. For this purpose, the eigen energy solution of the Dirac equation is obtained in presence of constant background magnetic field and chiral chemical potential (CCP) along with the minimal anomalous magnetic moment interaction of the fermion. Although there is a marginal enhancement in the IMC behaviour of the quark condensate due to the combined effects of AMM and CCP, we find that the overall behaviour of the Polyakov loop and the chiral charge density is dominated by the chiral chemical potential. It is further shown that the AMM effects in presence of CCP remains insignificant even after consideration of thermo-magnetically modified moments.

Electromagnetic spectral functions in hot and dense chirally imbalanced quark matter

The photon self-energy from chirally imbalanced quark matter is evaluated at finite temperature and density using the real time formulation of thermal field theory. The analytic structure is explored in detail exposing the cut structure which corresponds to a variety of physical scattering and decay processes in the medium and their thresholds. The mass of the quarks in the chiral symmetry broken phase are obtained from the gap equation of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. It is found that, in presence of finite chiral chemical potential, the chiral condensate tends to get stronger at low temperature while the opposite is observed at high values of temperature. A continuous spectrum is obtained for the electromagnetic spectral function and this is purely a finite chiral chemical potential effect.

Dilepton production from chirally asymmetric matter

We evaluate the dilepton production rate (DPR) from hot and dense chirally asymmetric quark matter. The presence of a finite chiral chemical potential (CCP) in the electromagnetic spectral function results in the appearance of new cut structures signifying additional scattering processes in the medium which leads to a significant enhancement in the DPR at lower values of invariant mass. The constituent quark mass evaluated using a 3-flavour Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model is also non-trivially affected by the CCP. These are found to result in a continuous dilepton production rate as a function of the invariant mass for higher values of temperature and baryonic chemical potential.

Thermomagnetic modification of the anomalous magnetic moment of quarks using the NJL model

The effective photon-quark-antiquark ($γq \overline{q}$) vertex function is evaluated at finite temperature in the presence of an arbitrary external magnetic field using the two-flavor gauged Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in the mean field approximation. The lowest order diagram contributing to the magnetic form factor and the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks is calculated at finite temperature and external magnetic field using the imaginary time formalism of finite temperature field theory and the Schwinger proper time formalism. The Schwinger propagator including all the Landau levels with non-zero AMM of the dressed quarks is considered while calculating the loop diagram. Using sharp as well as smooth three momentum cutoff, we regularize the UV divergences arising from the vertex function and the parameters of our model are chosen to reproduce the well known phenomenological quantities at zero temperature and zero magnetic field, such as pion-decay constant ($f_π$), vacuum quark condensate, vacuum pion mass ($m_π$) as well as the magnetic moments of proton and neutron. We then study the temperature and magnetic field dependence of the AMM and constituent mass of the quark. We found that, the AMM as well as the constituent quark mass are large at the chiral symmetry broken phase in the low temperature region. Around the pseudo-chiral phase transition they decrease rapidly and at high temperatures both of them approach vanishingly small values in the symmetry restored phase.

Dilepton production from magnetized quark matter with an anomalous magnetic moment of the quarks using a three-flavor PNJL model

Dilepton production from hot, dense and magnetized quark matter is studied using the three-flavor Polyakov loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model in which the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks is also taken into consideration. This is done by first evaluating the thermo-magnetic spectral function of the vector current correlator employing the real time formalism of finite temperature field theory and the Schwinger proper time formalism. The constituent quark mass which goes as an input in the expression of the dilepton production rate (DPR), has been calculated using the three-flavor PNJL model employing Pauli-Villiars (PV) regularization. The obtained constituent quark mass being strongly dependent on the temperature, density, magnetic field and AMM of the quarks, captures the effect of `strong' interactions specifically around the (pseudo) chiral and confinement-deconfinement phase transition regions. The analytic structure of the spectral function in the complex energy plane has been analyzed in detail and a non-trivial Landau cut is found in the physical kinematic domains resulting from the scattering of the Landau quantized quark/antiquark with the photon which is purely a finite magnetic field effect. Due to the emergence of the Landau cut along with the usual unitary cut, the DPR is found to be largely enhanced in the low invariant mass region. Owing to the magnetic field and AMM dependence of the thresholds of these cuts, we find that the kinematically forbidden gap between the Unitary and Landau cuts vanishes at sufficiently high temperature, density and magnetic field leading to the generation of a continuous spectrum of dilepton emission over the whole invariant mass region. In order to see the effects of strangeness and confinement-deconfinement, the rates are compared with the three-flavor NJL and the two-flavor NJL and PNJL models.

Dynamics of QCD Matter -- current status

In this article, there are 18 sections discussing various current topics in the field of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and related phenomena, which will serve as a snapshot of the current state of the art. Section 1 reviews experimental results of some recent light-flavored particle production data from ALICE collaboration. Other sections are mostly theoretical in nature. Very strong but transient magnetic field created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions could have important observational consequences. This has generated a lot of theoretical activity in the last decade. Sections 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 deal with the effects of the magnetic field on the properties of the QCD matter. There are several unanswered questions about the QCD phase diagram. Sections 3, 11 and 18 discuss various aspects of the QCD phase diagram and phase transitions. Recent years have witnessed interesting developments in foundational aspects of hydrodynamics and their application to heavy-ion collisions. Sections 12, 15, 16 and 17 of this article probe some aspects of this exciting field. Transport coefficients together with their temperature- and density-dependence, are essential inputs in hydrodynamical calculations. Sections 5, 8 and 14 deal with calculation/estimation of various transport coefficients (shear and bulk viscosity, thermal conductivity, relaxation times, etc.) of quark matter and hadronic matter. Sections 4, 6 and 13 deals with interesting new developments in the field. Section 4 discusses color dipole gluon distribution function at small transverse momentum in the form of a series of Bells polynomials. Section 6 discusses the properties of Higgs boson in the quark gluon plasma using Higgs-quark interaction. Section 13 discusses modification of coalescence model to incorporate viscous corrections and application of this model.

Medium effects on the electrical and Hall conductivities of a hot and magnetized pion gas

The electrical and Hall conductivities in a uniform magnetic field are evaluated for an interacting pion gas using the kinetic theory approach within the ambit of relaxation time approximation (RTA). The in-medium cross sections vis-a-vis the relaxation time for $ππ$ scattering are obtained using a one-loop modified thermal propagator for the exchanged $ρ$ and $σ$ mesons using thermal field theoretic techniques. For higher values of the magnetic field, a monotonic increase of the electrical conductivity with the temperature is observed. However, for a given temperature the conductivity is found to decrease steadily with magnetic field. The Hall conductivity, at lower values of the magnetic field, is found to decrease with temperature more rapidly than the electrical conductivity, whereas at higher values of the magnetic field, a linear increase is seen. Use of the in-medium scattering cross-section is found to produce a significant effect on the temperature dependence of both electrical and Hall conductivities compared to the case where vacuum cross-section is used.

Effects of quark anomalous magnetic moment on the thermodynamical properties and mesonic excitations of magnetized hot and dense matter in PNJL model

Various thermodynamic quantities and the phase diagram of strongly interacting hot and dense magnetized quark matter are obtained with the $ 2 $-flavour Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with Polyakov loop considering finite values of the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks. Susceptibilities associated with constituent quark mass and traced Polyakov loop are used to evaluate chiral and deconfinement transition temperatures. It is found that, inclusion of the AMM of the quarks in presence of the background magnetic field results in a substantial decrease in the chiral as well as deconfinement transition temperatures in contrast to an enhancement in the chiral transition temperature in its absence. Using standard techniques of finite temperature field theory, the two point thermo-magnetic mesonic correlation functions in the scalar ($σ$) and neutral pseudoscalar ($π^0$) channels are evaluated to calculate the masses of $σ$ and $ π^0 $ considering the AMM of the quarks.

Effects of anomalous magnetic moment of quarks on the dilepton production from hot and dense magnetized quark matter using the NJL model

Dilepton production rate (DPR) from hot and dense quark matter is studied in the presence of an arbitrary external magnetic field using the 2-flavour Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. The anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks is taken into consideration while calculating the constituent quark mass as well as the DPR from the thermo-magnetic medium. An infinite number of quark Landau levels is incorporated so that no approximations are made on the strength of the background magnetic field. The analytic structure of the two point vector current correlation function in the complex energy plane reveals that, in addition to the usual Unitary cut, a non-trival Landau cut appears in the physical kinematic domains solely due to the external magnetic field. Moreover, these kinematic domains of the Unitary and Landau cuts are found to be significantly modified due to the AMM of the quarks. With finite AMM of the quarks, for certain values of the external magnetic field, the kinematically forbidden gap between the Unitary and Landau cuts are shown to vanish leading to the generation of a continuous spectrum of dilepton emission over the whole invariant mass region not observed earlier.

Thermo-magnetic spectral properties of neutral mesons in vector and axial-vector channels using NJL model

In this work the neutral meson properties have been investigated in the presence of thermo-magnetic background using two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Mass, spectral function and dispersion relations are obtained in the scalar ($σ$) and pseudo-scalar ($π^0$) channels as well as in the vector ($ρ^0$) and axial vector ($a^0_1$) channels. The general Lorentz structures for the vector and axial-vector meson polarization functions have been considered in detail. The ultra-violet divergences appearing in this work have been regularized using a mixed regularization technique where the gamma functions arising in dimensional regularization are replaced with incomplete gamma functions as usually done in the proper time regularization procedure. The meson spectral functions obtained in the presence of a magnetic field possess nontrivial oscillatory structure. Similar to the scalar and pseudo-scalar channel, the spectral functions for each of the modes of $ρ^0$ are observed to overlap with the corresponding modes of its chiral partner $a_1^0$ mesons in the chiral symmetry restored phase. We observe discontinuities in the masses of all the mesonic excitations for a non-zero external magnetic field.

Viscous coefficients and thermal conductivity of a $πK N$ gas mixture in the medium

The temperature and density dependence of the relaxation times, thermal conductivity, shear viscosity and bulk viscosity for a hot and dense gas consisting of pions, kaons and nucleons have been evaluated in the kinetic theory approach. The in-medium cross-sections for $ππ$, $πK$ and $πN$ scatterings were obtained by using complete propagators for the exchanged $ρ$, $σ$, $K^*$ and $Δ$ excitations derived using thermal field theoretic techniques. Notable deviations can be observed in the temperature dependence of $η$, $ζ$ and $λ$ when compared with corresponding calculations using vacuum cross-sections usually employed in the literature. The value of the specific shear viscosity $η/s$ is found to be in agreement with available estimates.

Effect of anomalous magnetic moment of quarks on the phase structure and mesonic properties in the NJL model

Employing a field dependent three-momentum cut-off regularization technique, we study the phase structure and mesonic masses using the $2$-flavour Nambu-Jona Lasinio model at finite temperature and density in presence of arbitrary external magnetic field. This approach is then applied to incorporate the effects of the anomalous magnetic moment(AMM) of quarks on constituent quark mass and thermodynamic observables as a function of temperature/baryonic density. The critical temperature for transition from chiral symmetry broken to the restored phase is observed to decrease with the external magnetic field, which can be classified as inverse magnetic catalysis, while an opposite behaviour is realized in the case of a vanishing magnetic moment, implying magnetic catalysis. These essential features are also reflected in the phase diagram. Furthermore, the properties of the low lying scalar and neutral pseudoscalar mesons are also studied in presence of a hot and dense magnetized medium including AMM of the quarks using random phase approximation. For non-zero values of magnetic field, we notice a sudden jump in the mass of the Goldstone mode at and above the Mott transition temperature which is found to decrease substantially with the increase in magnetic field when the AMM of the quarks are taken into consideration.
