The rate of purification of quantum trajectories

We investigate the behavior of quantum trajectories conditioned on measurement outcomes. Under a condition related to the absence of so-called dark subspaces, Kümmerer and Maassen had shown that such trajectories almost surely purify in the long run. In this article, we first present a simple alternative proof of this result using Lyapunov methods. We then strengthen the conclusion by proving that purification actually occurs at an exponential rate in expectation, again using a Lyapunov approach. Furthermore, we address the quantum state estimation problem by propagating two trajectories under the same measurement record--one from the true initial state and the other from an arbitrary initial guess--and show that the estimated trajectory converges exponentially fast to the true one, thus quantifying the rate at which information is progressively revealed through the measurement process.

Quantitative propagation of chaos for Lindblad dynamics

We consider an open quantum system governed $N$-body Lindblad equation and study mean-field limits in this setting. We prove that the $N$-particle dynamics converges, in the sense of quantum relative entropy, to the tensorized solution of the limiting nonlinear equation. More precisely, we establish explicit bounds of order $1/N$ on the relative entropy between the $N$-particle density operator and the corresponding product state, thereby providing a quantitative propagation of chaos.

On the non-Markovian quantum control dynamics

In this paper, we study both open-loop control and closed-loop measurement feedback control of non-Markovian quantum dynamics arising from the interaction between a quantum system and its environment. We use the widely studied cavity quantum electrodynamics (cavity-QED) system as an example, where an atom interacts with the environment composed of a collection of oscillators. In this scenario, the stochastic interactions between the atom and the environment can introduce non-Markovian characteristics into the evolution of quantum states, differing from the conventional Markovian dynamics observed in open quantum systems. As a result, the atom's decay rate to the environment varies with time and can be described by nonlinear equations. The solutions to these nonlinear equations can be analyzed in terms of the stability of a nonlinear system. Consequently, the evolution of quantum state amplitudes follows linear time-varying equations as a result of the non-Markovian quantum transient process. Additionally, by using measurement feedback through homodyne detection of the cavity output, we can modulate the steady atomic and photonic states in the non-Markovian process. When multiple coupled cavity-QED systems are involved, measurement-based feedback control can influence the dynamics of high-dimensional quantum states, as well as the resulting stable and unstable subspaces.

Dynamic Programming Principle and Stabilization for Mean-Field Quantum Filtering Systems

Working within the quantum filtering framework, we establish a dynamic programming principle in an infinite-dimensional setting by embedding the state space into the Hilbert-Schmidt space. We then study a stabilization problem for continuously monitored Ising-coupled qubits and, in the mean-field limit, demonstrate quantum state reduction together with exponential convergence toward prescribed eigenstates under suitable feedback laws.

Asymptotic stability and ergodic properties of quantum trajectories under imperfect measurement

We investigate the asymptotic stability and ergodic properties of quantum trajectories under imperfect measurement, extending previous results established for the ideal case of perfect measurement. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition ensuring the convergence of the estimated trajectory, initialized from an estimated state, to the true trajectory. This result is obtained assuming that the associated quantum channel is irreducible. Building on this, we prove the uniqueness of the invariant measure and demonstrate convergence toward this measure.

Brownian motion on the Fubini extension space and applications

We study a family of essentially pairwise independent Brownian motions indexed by a continuum of labels and show how the Fubini extension framework provides a rigorous way to represent such families as a single jointly measurable process. Within this framework, we address two main objectives: first, we show how a system of graphon stochastic differential equations can be reformulated as a single McKean-Vlasov type equation driven by a standard Brownian motion, which significantly facilitates its analysis. Second, we establish a Girsanov theorem for a continuum of essentially pairwise independent Brownian motions.

Graphon Quantum Filtering Systems

We consider a non-exchangeable system of interacting quantum particles with mean-field type interactions, subject to continuous measurement on dense graphs. In the mean-field limit, we derive a graphon-based quantum filtering system, establish its well-posedness, and prove propagation of chaos for multi-class bosonic systems with blockwise interactions. We then discuss applications to quantum state preparation and quantum graphon games.

Ergodic Properties of Quantum Markov Semigroups

In this paper, we study the ergodic theorem for infinite-dimensional quantum Markov semigroups, originally introduced by Frigerio and Verri in 1982, and its latest version developed by Carbone and Girotti in 2021. We provide a sufficient condition that ensures exponential convergence towards the positive recurrent subspace, a well-known result for irreducible quantum Markov semigroups in finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. Several illustrative examples are presented to demonstrate the application of the ergodic theorem. Moreover, we show that the positive recurrent subspace plays a crucial role in the study of global asymptotic stability.

State Space Decomposition of Quantum Dynamical Semigroups

The mean evolution of an open quantum system in continuous time is described by a time continuous semigroup of quantum channels (completely positive and trace-preserving linear maps). Baumgartner and Narnhofer presented a general decomposition of the underlying Hilbert space into a sum of invariant subspaces, also called enclosures. We propose a new reading of this result, inspired by the work of Carbone and Pautrat. In addition, we apply this decomposition to a class of open quantum random walks and to quantum trajectories, where we study its uniqueness.

Unravelling mean-field Lindblad equation

We propose a mean-field particle Monte Carlo method for simulating the N-body Lindblad equation. We provide a convergence result showing that a system of interacting particles converges to the corresponding nonlinear Lindblad equation in the large N limit.

Quantum coherent and measurement feedback control based on atoms coupled with a semi-infinite waveguide

In this paper, we show that quantum feedback control may be applied to generate desired states for atomic and photonic systems based on a semi-infinite waveguide coupled with multiple two-level atoms. In this set-up, an initially excited atom can emit one photon into the waveguide, which can be reflected by the terminal mirror or other atoms to establish different feedback loops via the coherent interactions between the atom and photon. When there are at most two excitations in the waveguide quantum electrodynamics (waveguide QED) system, the evolution of quantum states can be interpreted using random graph theory. While this process is influenced by the environment, and we clarify that the environment-induced dynamics can be eliminated by measurement-based feedback control or coherent drives. Thus, in the open system atom-waveguide interactions, measurement-based feedback can modulate the final steady quantum state, while simultaneously, the homodyne detection noise in the measurement process can induce oscillations, which is treated by the coherent feedback designs.

Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space Approach to Non-Markovian Quantum Stochastic Models

We give a derivation of the non-Markovian quantum state diffusion equation of Di{ó}si and Strunz starting from a model of a quantum mechanical system coupled to a bosonic bath. We show that the complex trajectories arises as a consequence of using the Bargmann-Segal (complex wave) representation of the bath. In particular, we construct a reproducing kernel Hilbert space for the bath auto-correlation and realize the space of complex trajectories as a Hilbert subspace. The reproducing kernel naturally arises from a feature space where the underlying feature space is the one-particle Hilbert space of the bath quanta. We exploit this to derive the unravelling of the open quantum system dynamics and show equivalence to the equation of Di{ó}si and Strunz. We also give an explicit expression for the reduced dynamics of a two-level system coupled to the bath via a Jaynes-Cummings interaction and show that this does indeed correspond to an exact solution of the Di{ó}si-Strunz equation. Finally, we discuss the physical interpretation of the complex trajectories and show that they are intrinsically unobservable.

Feedback stabilization via a quantum projection filter

This paper considers a simplified model of open quantum systems undergoing imperfect measurements obtained via a projection filter approach. We use this approximate filter in the feedback stabilization problem specifically in the case of Quantum Non-Demolition (QND) measurements. The feedback design relies on the structure of the exponential family utilized for the projection process. We demonstrate that the introduced feedback guarantees exponential convergence of the original filter equation toward a predefined target state, corresponding to an eigenstate of the measurement operator.

Observed quantum particles system with graphon interaction

In this paper, we consider a system of heterogeneously interacting quantum particles subject to indirect continuous measurement. The interaction is assumed to be of the mean-field type. We derive a new limiting quantum graphon system, prove the well-posedness of this system, and establish a stability result.

Exact solution and projection filters for open quantum systems subject to imperfect measurements

In this paper, we consider an open quantum system undergoing imperfect and indirect measurement. For quantum non-demolition (QND) measurement, we show that the system evolves on an appropriately chosen manifold and we express the exact solution of the quantum filter equation in terms of the solution of a lower dimensional stochastic differential equation. In order to further reduce the dimension of the system under study, we consider the projection on the lower dimensional manifold originally introduced in [1] for the case of perfect measurements. An error analysis is performed to evaluate the precision of this approximate quantum filter, focusing on the case of QND measurement. Simulations suggest the efficiency of the proposed quantum projection filter, even in presence of a stabilizing feedback control which depends on the projection filter.

Exponential Selection and Feedback Stabilization of Invariant Subspaces of Quantum Trajectories

We show that quantum trajectories become exponentially fast supported by one of their minimal invariant subspaces. Exponential convergence is shown in expectation using Lyapunov techniques. The proof is based on an in-depth study of the identifiability of the probability distributions generated in the different subspaces. We furthermore introduce a feedback control strategy that allows for the targeted convergence towards a desired subspace. This convergence is also achieved at exponential speed.

On the mean-field Belavkin filtering equation

Following Kolokoltsov's work [1], we present an extension of mean-field control theory in quantum framework. In particular such an extension is done naturally by considering the Belavkin quantum filtering and control theory in a mean-field setting. In this setting, the dynamics is described by a controlled Belavkin equation of McKean-Vlasov type. We prove the well-posedness of such an equation under imperfect measurement records. Furthermore, we show under purification assumption the propagation of chaos for perfect measurements. Finally, we apply particle methods to simulate the mean-field Belavkin equation and we provide numerical simulations showing the stabilization of the mean-field Belavkin equation by a feedback control strategy towards a chosen target state.
