Neutron-proton scattering at next-to-next-to-leading order in Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory

We present a systematic study of neutron-proton scattering in Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory (NLEFT), in terms of the computationally efficient radial Hamiltonian method. Our leading-order (LO) interaction consists of smeared, local contact terms and static one-pion exchange. We show results for a fully non-perturbative analysis up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO), followed by a perturbative treatment of contributions beyond LO. The latter analysis anticipates practical Monte Carlo simulations of heavier nuclei. We explore how our results depend on the lattice spacing a, and estimate sources of uncertainty in the determination of the low-energy constants of the next-to-leading-order (NLO) two-nucleon force. We give results for lattice spacings ranging from a = 1.97 fm down to a = 0.98 fm, and discuss the effects of lattice artifacts on the scattering observables. At a = 0.98 fm, lattice artifacts appear small, and our NNLO results agree well with the Nijmegen partial-wave analysis for S-wave and P-wave channels. We expect the peripheral partial waves to be equally well described once the lattice momenta in the pion-nucleon coupling are taken to coincide with the continuum dispersion relation, and higher-order (N3LO) contributions are included. We stress that for center-of-mass momenta below 100 MeV, the physics of the two-nucleon system is independent of the lattice spacing.

Nuclear binding near a quantum phase transition

How do protons and neutrons bind to form nuclei? This is the central question of ab initio nuclear structure theory. While the answer may seem as simple as the fact that nuclear forces are attractive, the full story is more complex and interesting. In this work we present numerical evidence from ab initio lattice simulations showing that nature is near a quantum phase transition, a zero-temperature transition driven by quantum fluctuations. Using lattice effective field theory, we perform Monte Carlo simulations for systems with up to twenty nucleons. For even and equal numbers of protons and neutrons, we discover a first-order transition at zero temperature from a Bose-condensed gas of alpha particles (4He nuclei) to a nuclear liquid. Whether one has an alpha-particle gas or nuclear liquid is determined by the strength of the alpha-alpha interactions, and we show that the alpha-alpha interactions depend on the strength and locality of the nucleon-nucleon interactions. This insight should be useful in improving calculations of nuclear structure and important astrophysical reactions involving alpha capture on nuclei. Our findings also provide a tool to probe the structure of alpha cluster states such as the Hoyle state responsible for the production of carbon in red giant stars and point to a connection between nuclear states and the universal physics of bosons at large scattering length.

A Lattice Study of $(\bar{D}_1 D^{*})^\pm$ Near-threshold Scattering

In this exploratory lattice study, low-energy near threshold scattering of the $(\bar{D}_1 D^{*})^\pm$ meson system is analyzed using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermion configurations. Both s-wave ($J^P=0^-$) and p-wave ($J^P=1^+$) channels are investigated. It is found that the interaction between the two charmed mesons is attractive near the threshold in both channels. This calculation provides some hints in the searching of resonances or bound states around the threshold of $(\bar{D}_1 D^{*})^\pm$ system.

Two Photon Decays of $η_c$ from Lattice QCD

We present an exploratory lattice study for the two-photon decay of $η_c$ using $N_f=2$ twisted mass lattice QCD gauge configurations generated by the European Twisted Mass Collaboration. Two different lattice spacings of $a=0.067$fm and $a=0.085$fm are used in the study, both of which are of physical size of 2$fm$. The decay widths are found to be $1.025(5)$KeV for the coarser lattice and $1.062(5)$KeV for the finer lattice respectively where the errors are purely statistical. A naive extrapolation towards the continuum limit yields $Γ\simeq 1.122(14)$KeV which is smaller than the previous quenched result and most of the current experimental results. Possible reasons are discussed.

Exploring genetic variation in the tomato (Solanum section Lycopersicon) clade by whole-genome sequencing

Genetic variation in the tomato clade was explored by sequencing a selection of 84 tomato accessions and related wild species representative for the Lycopersicon, Arcanum, Eriopersicon, and Neolycopersicon groups. We present a reconstruction of three new reference genomes in support of our comparative genome analyses. Sequence diversity in commercial breeding lines appears extremely low, indicating the dramatic genetic erosion of crop tomatoes. This is reflected by the SNP count in wild species which can exceed 10 million i.e. 20 fold higher than in crop accessions. Comparative sequence alignment reveals group, species, and accession specific polymorphisms, which explain characteristic fruit traits and growth habits in tomato accessions. Using gene models from the annotated Heinz reference genome, we observe a bias in dN/dS ratio in fruit and growth diversification genes compared to a random set of genes, which probably is the result of a positive selection. We detected highly divergent segments in wild S. lycopersicum species, and footprints of introgressions in crop accessions originating from a common donor accession. Phylogenetic relationships of fruit diversification and growth specific genes from crop accessions show incomplete resolution and are dependent on the introgression donor. In contrast, whole genome SNP information has sufficient power to resolve the phylogenetic placement of each accession in the four main groups in the Lycopersicon clade using Maximum Likelihood analyses. Phylogenetic relationships appear correlated with habitat and mating type and point to the occurrence of geographical races within these groups and thus are of practical importance for introgressive hybridization breeding. Our study illustrates the need for multiple reference genomes in support of tomato comparative genomics and Solanum genome evolution studies.

Low-energy Scattering of $(D^{*}\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ System and the Resonance-like Structure $Z_c(4025)$

In this paper, low-energy scattering of the $(D^{*}\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is studied within Lüscher's finite-size formalism using $N_{f}=2$ twisted mass gauge field configurations. With three different pion mass values, the $s$-wave threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, are extracted in $J^P=1^+$ channel. Our results indicate that, in this particular channel, the interaction between the two vector charmed mesons is weakly repulsive in nature hence do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons, at least for the pion mass values being studied. This study provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(4025)$ observed in various experiments.

Low-energy Scattering of $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ System And the Resonance-like Structure $Z_c(3900)$

In this exploratory lattice study, low-energy scattering of the $(D\bar{D}^{*})^\pm$ meson system is analyzed using lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ twisted mass fermion configurations with three pion mass values. The calculation is performed within single-channel Lüscher's finite-size formalism. The threshold scattering parameters, namely the scattering length $a_0$ and the effective range $r_0$, for the $s$-wave scattering in $J^P=1^+$ channel are extracted. For the cases in our study, the interaction between the two charmed mesons is weakly repulsive. Our lattice results therefore do not support the possibility of a shallow bound state for the two mesons for the pion mass values we studied. This calculation provides some useful information on the nature of the newly discovered resonance-like structure $Z_c(3900)$ by various experimental groups.

Chiral Perturbation Theory and the $\bar B \bar B$ Strong Interaction

We have calculated the potentials of the heavy (charmed or bottomed) pseudoscalar mesons up to $O(ε^2)$ with the heavy meson chiral perturbation theory. We take into account the contributions from the football, triangle, box, and crossed diagrams with the 2$ϕ$ exchange and one-loop corrections to the contact terms. We notice that the total 2$ϕ$-exchange potential alone is attractive in the small momentum region in the channel ${\bar B \bar B}^{I=1}$, ${\bar B_s \bar B_s}^{I=0}$, or ${\bar B \bar B_s}^{I=1/2}$, while repulsive in the channel ${\bar B \bar B}^{I=0}$. Hopefully the analytical chiral structures of the potentials may be useful in the extrapolation of the heavy meson interaction from lattice QCD simulation.

Generalized Lüscher's Formula in Multichannel Baryon-Baryon Scattering

In this paper, Lüscher's formula is generalized to the case of two spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particles in two-channel scattering based on Ref. \cite{Li:2012bi}. This is first done in a non-relativistic quantum mechanics model and then generalized to quantum field theory. We show that Lüscher's formula obtained from these two different methods are equivalent up to terms that are exponentially suppressed in the box size. This formalism can be readily applied to future lattice QCD calculations.

Coupled-channel analysis of the possible $D^{(*)}D^{(*)}$, $\bar{B}^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ and $D^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ molecular states

We perform a coupled-channel study of the possible deuteron-like molecules with two heavy flavor quarks, including the systems of $D^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ with double charm, $\bar{B}^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ with double bottom and $D^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ with both charm and bottom, within the one-boson-exchange model. In our study, we take into account the S-D mixing which plays an important role in the formation of the loosely bound deuteron, and particularly, the coupled-channel effect in the flavor space. According to our calculation, the states $D^{(*)}D^{(*)}[I(J^P)=0(1^+)]$ and $(D^{(*)}D^{(*)})_s[J^P=1^+]$ with double charm, the states $\bar{B}^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}[I(J^P)=0(1^+),0(2^+),1(0^+),1(1^+),1(2^+)]$, $(\bar{B}^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)})_s[J^P=0^+,1^+,2^+]$ and $(\bar{B}^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)})_{ss}[J^P=0^+,1^+,2^+]$ with double bottom, and the states $D^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}[I(J^P)=0(0^+),0(1^+)]$ and $(D^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)})_s[J^P=0^+,1^+]$ with both charm and bottom are good molecule candidates. However, the existence of the states $D^{(*)}D^{(*)}[I(J^P)=0(2^+)]$ with double charm and $D^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}[I(J^P)=1(1^+)]$ with both charm and bottom is ruled out.

The meson-exchange model for the $Λ\barΛ$ interaction

In the present work, we apply the one-boson-exchange potential (OBEP) model to investigate the possibility of Y(2175) and $η(2225)$ as bound states of $Λ\barΛ(^3S_1)$ and $Λ\barΛ(^1S_0)$ respectively. We consider the effective potential from the pseudoscalar $η$-exchange and $η^{'}$-exchange, the scalar $σ$-exchange, and the vector $ω$-exchange and $ϕ$-exchange. The $η$ and $η^{'}$ meson exchange potential is repulsive force for the state $^1S_0$ and attractive for $^3S_1$. The results depend very sensitively on the cutoff parameter of the $ω$-exchange ($Λ_ω$) and least sensitively on that of the $ϕ$-exchange ($Λ_ϕ$). Our result suggests the possible interpretation of Y(2175) and $η(2225)$ as the bound states of $Λ\barΛ(^3S_1)$ and $Λ\barΛ(^1S_0)$ respectively.

Outage Performance of AF-based Time Division Broadcasting Protocol in the Presence of Co-channel Interference

In this paper, we investigate the outage performance of time division broadcasting (TDBC) protocol in independent but non-identical Rayleigh flat-fading channels, where all nodes are interfered by a finite number of co-channel interferers. We assume that the relay operates in the amplified-and-forward mode. A tight lower bound as well as the asymptotic expression of the outage probability is obtained in closed-form. Through both theoretic analyses and simulation results, we show that the achievable diversity of TDBC protocol is zero in the interference-limited scenario. Moreover, we study the impacts of interference power, number of interferers and relay placement on the outage probability. Finally, the correctness of our analytic results is validated via computer simulations.

Isospin breaking, coupled-channel effects, and X(3872)

We re-investigate the possibility of X(3872) as a $D\bar{D}^*$ molecule with $J^{PC}=1^{++}$ within the framework of both the one-pion-exchange (OPE) model and the one-boson-exchange (OBE) model. After careful treatment of the S-D wave mixing, the mass difference between the neutral and charged $D(D^*)$ mesons and the coupling of the $D(D^*)$ pair to $D^*\bar{D}^*$, a loosely bound molecular state X(3872) emerges quite naturally with large isospin violation in its flavor wave function. For example, the isovector component is 26.24% if the binding energy is 0.30 MeV, where the isospin breaking effect is amplified by the tiny binding energy. After taking into account the phase space difference and assuming the $3π$ and $2π$ come from a virtual omega and rho meson respectively, we obtain the ratio of these two hidden-charm decay modes: $\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrow π^+π^-π^0 J/ψ)/\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrow π^+π^- J/ψ)=0.42$ for the binding energy being 0.3 MeV, which is consistent with the experimental value.

Generalized Lüscher Formula in Multi-channel Baryon-Meson Scattering

Lüscher's formula relates the elastic scattering phase shifts to the two-particle energy levels in a finite cubic box. The original formula was obtained for elastic scattering of two massive spinless particles in the center of mass frame. In this paper, we consider the case for the scattering of a spin 1/2 particle with a spinless particle in multi-channel scattering. A generalized relation between the energy of two particle system and the scattering matrix elements is established. We first obtain this relation using quantum-mechanics in both center-of-mass frame and in a general moving frame. The result is then generalized to quantum field theory using methods outlined in Ref. \cite{Hansen:2012tf}. We verify that the results obtained using both methods are equivalent up to terms that are exponentially suppressed in the box size.

Hadronic Molecular States Composed of Heavy Flavor Baryons

We investigate the possible molecules composed of two heavy flavor baryons such as "$A_QB_Q$"(Q=b, c) within the one-pion-exchange model (OPE). Our results indicate that the long-range $π$ exchange force is strong enough to form molecules such as $[Σ_QΞ_Q^{'}]^{I=1/2}_{S=1}$(Q=b, c), $[Σ_QΛ_Q]^{I=1}_{S=1}$(Q=b, c), $[Σ_bΞ_b^{'}]^{I=3/2}_{S=1}$ and $[Ξ_bΞ^{'}_b]^{I=0}_{S=1}$ where the S-D mixing plays an important role. In contrast, the $π$ exchange does not form the spin-singlet $A_QB_Q$ bound states. If we consider the heavier scalar and vector meson exchanges as well as the pion exchange, some loosely bound spin-singlet S-wave states appear while results of the spin-triplet $A_QB_Q$ system does not change significantly, which implies the pion exchange plays an dominant role in forming the spin-triplet molecules. Moreover, we perform an extensive coupled channel analysis of the $Λ_QΛ_Q$ system within the OPE and one-boson-exchange (OBE) framework and find that there exist loosely bound states of $Λ_QΛ_Q$(Q=b,c) with quantum numbers $I(J^P)=0(0^+)$, $0(0^-)$ and $0(1^-)$. The binding solutions of $Λ_QΛ_Q$ system mainly come from the coupled-channel effect in the flavor space. Besides the OPE force, the medium- and short-range attractive force also plays a significant role in the formation of the loosely bound $Λ_cΛ_c$ and $Λ_bΛ_b$ states. Once produced, they will be very stable because such a system decays via weak interaction with a very long lifetime around $10^{-13}\sim10^{-12}$s.

Radiative transitions in charmonium from $N_f=2$ twisted mass lattice QCD

We present a study for charmonium radiative transitions: $J/ψ\rightarrowη_cγ$, $χ_{c0}\rightarrow J/Ψγ$ and $h_c\rightarrowη_cγ$ using $N_f=2$ twisted mass lattice QCD gauge configurations. The single-quark vector form factors for $η_c$ and $χ_{c0}$ are also determined. The simulation is performed at a lattice spacing of $a= 0.06666$ fm and the lattice size is $32^3\times 64$. After extrapolation of lattice data at nonzero $Q^2$ to 0, we compare our results with previous quenched lattice results and the available experimental values.
