Heavy Bino and Slepton for Muon g-2 Anomaly

In light of very recent E989 experimental result, we investigate the possibility that heavy sparticles explain the muon g-2 anomaly. We focus on the bino-smuon loop in an effective SUSY scenario, where a light gravitino plays the role of dark matter and other sparticles are heavy. Due to the enhancement of left-right mixing of smuons by heavy higgsinos, the contribution of bino-smuon loop can sizably increase the prediction of muon g-2 to the experimental value. Under collider and vacuum stability constraints, we find that TeV scale bino and smuon can still account for the new muon g-2 anomaly. The implications for LHC phenomenology are also discussed.

Improving DNN Fault Tolerance using Weight Pruning and Differential Crossbar Mapping for ReRAM-based Edge AI

Recent research demonstrated the promise of using resistive random access memory (ReRAM) as an emerging technology to perform inherently parallel analog domain in-situ matrix-vector multiplication -- the intensive and key computation in deep neural networks (DNNs). However, hardware failure, such as stuck-at-fault defects, is one of the main concerns that impedes the ReRAM devices to be a feasible solution for real implementations. The existing solutions to address this issue usually require an optimization to be conducted for each individual device, which is impractical for mass-produced products (e.g., IoT devices). In this paper, we rethink the value of weight pruning in ReRAM-based DNN design from the perspective of model fault tolerance. And a differential mapping scheme is proposed to improve the fault tolerance under a high stuck-on fault rate. Our method can tolerate almost an order of magnitude higher failure rate than the traditional two-column method in representative DNN tasks. More importantly, our method does not require extra hardware cost compared to the traditional two-column mapping scheme. The improvement is universal and does not require the optimization process for each individual device.

Robotic Electrospinning Actuated by Non-Circular Joint Continuum Manipulator for Endoluminal Therapy

Electrospinning has exhibited excellent benefits to treat the trauma for tissue engineering due to its produced micro/nano fibrous structure. It can effectively adhere to the tissue surface for long-term continuous therapy. This paper develops a robotic electrospinning platform for endoluminal therapy. The platform consists of a continuum manipulator, the electrospinning device, and the actuation unit. The continuum manipulator has two bending sections to facilitate the steering of the tip needle for a controllable spinning direction. Non-circular joint profile is carefully designed to enable a constant length of the centreline of a continuum manipulator for stable fluid transmission inside it. Experiments are performed on a bronchus phantom, and the steering ability and bending limitation in each direction are also investigated. The endoluminal electrospinning is also fulfilled by a trajectory following and points targeting experiments. The effective adhesive area of the produced fibre is also illustrated. The proposed robotic electrospinning shows its feasibility to precisely spread more therapeutic drug to construct fibrous structure for potential endoluminal treatment.

Hierarchical Adaptive Pooling by Capturing High-order Dependency for Graph Representation Learning

Graph neural networks (GNN) have been proven to be mature enough for handling graph-structured data on node-level graph representation learning tasks. However, the graph pooling technique for learning expressive graph-level representation is critical yet still challenging. Existing pooling methods either struggle to capture the local substructure or fail to effectively utilize high-order dependency, thus diminishing the expression capability. In this paper we propose HAP, a hierarchical graph-level representation learning framework, which is adaptively sensitive to graph structures, i.e., HAP clusters local substructures incorporating with high-order dependencies. HAP utilizes a novel cross-level attention mechanism MOA to naturally focus more on close neighborhood while effectively capture higher-order dependency that may contain crucial information. It also learns a global graph content GCont that extracts the graph pattern properties to make the pre- and post-coarsening graph content maintain stable, thus providing global guidance in graph coarsening. This novel innovation also facilitates generalization across graphs with the same form of features. Extensive experiments on fourteen datasets show that HAP significantly outperforms twelve popular graph pooling methods on graph classification task with an maximum accuracy improvement of 22.79%, and exceeds the performance of state-of-the-art graph matching and graph similarity learning algorithms by over 3.5% and 16.7%.

On irreducible characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra in type $A$

We use vertex operators to compute irreducible characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type $A$. Two general formulas are given for the irreducible characters in terms of those of the symmetric groups or the Iwahori-Hecke algebras in lower degrees. Explicit formulas are derived for the irreducible characters labeled by hooks and two-row partitions. Using duality, we also formulate a determinant type Murnaghan-Nakayama formula and give another proof of Ram's combinatorial Murnaghan-Nakayama formula. As applications, we study super-characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra as well as the bitrace of the regular representation and provide a simple proof of the Halverson-Luduc-Ram formula.

Learn to Navigate Maplessly with Varied LiDAR Configurations: A Support Point-Based Approach

Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) demonstrates great potential in mapless navigation domain. However, such a navigation model is normally restricted to a fixed configuration of the range sensor because its input format is fixed. In this paper, we propose a DRL model that can address range data obtained from different range sensors with different installation positions. Our model first extracts the goal-directed features from each obstacle point. Subsequently, it chooses global obstacle features from all point-feature candidates and uses these features for the final decision. As only a few points are used to support the final decision, we refer to these points as support points and our approach as support point-based navigation (SPN). Our model can handle data from different LiDAR setups and demonstrates good performance in simulation and real-world experiments. Moreover, it shows great potential in crowded scenarios with small obstacles when using a high-resolution LiDAR.

Lepton flavor violating Higgs decay $h\rightarrow μτ$ in the littlest Higgs Model with T-parity

Inspired by the recent CMS $h \to μτ$ excess, we calculate the lepton flavor violating Higgs decay $h \to μτ$ in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT). Under the constraints of $\ell_i \to \ell_j γ$, $Z \to \ell_i \bar{\ell}_j$ and Higgs data, we find that the branching ratio of $h \to μτ$ can maximally reach $\mathcal O(10^{-4})$. We also investigate the correlation between $h \to μτ$, $τ\to μγ$ and $Z \to μτ$, which can be used to test LHT model at future $e^+e^-$ colliders.

Design of Polar Code Lattices of Small Dimension

Polar code lattices are formed from binary polar codes using Construction D. In this paper, we propose a design technique for finite-dimension polar code lattices. The dimension $n$ and target probability of decoding error are parameters for this design. To select the rates of the Construction D component codes, rather than using the capacity as in past work, we use the explicit finite-length properties of the polar code. Under successive cancellation decoding, density evolution allows choosing code rates that satisfy the equal error probability rule. At an error-rate of $10^{-4}$, a dimension $n=128$ polar code lattice achieves a VNR of 2.5 dB, within 0.2 dB of the best-known BCH code lattice, but with significantly lower decoding complexity.

LSM-DFN Modeling for Seismic Responses in Complex Fractured Media: Comparison of Static and Dynamic Elastic Moduli

Crack microgeometries pose a paramount influence on effective elastic characteristics and sonic responses. Geophysical exploration based on seismic methods are widely used to assess and understand the presence of fractures. Numerical simulation as a promising way for this issue, still faces some challenges. With the rapid development of computers and computational techniques, discrete-based numerical approaches with desirable properties have been increasingly developed, but have not yet extensively applied to seismic response simulation for complex fractured media. For this purpose, we apply the coupled LSM-DFN model (Liu and Fu, 2020b) to examining the validity in emulating elastic wave propagation and scattering in naturally-fractured media. By comparing to the theoretical values, the implement of the schema is validated with input parameters optimization. Moreover, dynamic elastic moduli from seismic responses are calculated and compared with static ones from quasi-static loading of uniaxial compression tests. Numerical results are consistent with the tendency of theoretical predictions and available experimental data. It shows the potential for reproducing the seismic responses in complex fractured media and quantitatively investigating the correlations and differences between static and dynamic elastic moduli.

Dynamics of Momentum Distribution and Structure Factor in a Weakly Interacting Bose Gas with a Periodical Modulation

The momentum distribution and dynamical structure factor in a weakly interacting Bose gas with a time-dependent periodic modulation in terms of the Bogoliubov treatment are investigated. The evolution equation related to the Bogoliubov weights happens to be a solvable Mathieu equation when the coupling strength is periodically modulated. An exact relation between the time derivatives of momentum distribution and dynamical structure factor is derived, which indicates that the single-particle property strongly related to the two-body property in the evolutions of Bose-Einstein condensates. It is found that the momentum distribution and dynamical structure factor cannot display periodical behavior. For stable dynamics, some particular peaks in the curves of momentum distribution and dynamical structure factor appear synchronously, which is consistent with the derivative relation.

Elastic characteristics for naturally-fractured reservoirs using an integrated LSM-DFN scheme with rough contact deformation

Crack micro-geometries and tribological properties pose an important impact on the elastic characteristics of fractured rocks. Numerical simulation as a promising way for this issue still faces some challenges. With the rapid development of computers and computational techniques, discrete-based numerical approaches with desirable properties have been increasingly developed, but few attempts to consider the particle surface roughness in a lattice type model. For this purpose, an integrated numerical scheme accounting rough contact deformation is developed by coupling modified LSM and DFN modeling for predicting the effective mechanical properties of a realistic outcrop. Smooth joint logic is introduced to consider contact and slip behaviors at fracture surfaces and a modified contact relation to estimating the normal force-displacement from rough contact deformation. Improved constitutive laws are developed and employed for rock matrix and rough fracture surface and implemented in the modified LSM. Complex fracture networks presented by DFNs are automatically extracted based on the gradient Hough transform algorithm. This developed framework is validated by classic equivalent medium theories. It shows the model could be used to emulate naturally-fractured media and to quantitatively investigate the effects of fracture attributes and micro-scale surface roughness on the compression mechanism.

Mono-top signature from stop decay at the HE-LHC

Searching for the top squark (stop) is a key task to test the naturalness of SUSY. Different from stop pair production, single stop production relies on its electroweak properties and can provide some unique signatures. Following the single production process $pp \to \tilde t_1 \tildeχ^-_1 \to t \tildeχ^0_1 \tildeχ^-_1$, the top quark has two decay channels: leptonic channel and hadronic channel. In this paper, we probe the observability of these two channels in a simplified MSSM scenario. We find that, at the 27 TeV LHC with the integrated luminosity of ${\cal L} = 15~\text{ab}^{-1}$, $m_{\tilde{t}_1}<1900$ GeV and $μ<750$ GeV can be excluded at $2σ$ through the leptonic mono-top channel, while $m_{\tilde{t}_1}<1200$ GeV and $μ<350$ GeV can be excluded at $2σ$ through the hadronic channel.

Probing single stop production at the FCC-hh/SPPC

Top squark (stop) is a crucial part of supersymmetric models (SUSY) to understand the naturalness problem. Other than the traditional stop pair production, the single production via electroweak interaction provides signals with distinctive features which could help confirm the existence of the top squark. In this paper, we investigate the observability of stop through the mono-top channel of the single stop production at the future proton-proton colliders, FCC-hh and SPPC, in a simplified Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). With the integrated luminosity of 3000 $\text{fb}^{-1}$, we can probe the stop with mass up to 3.25 TeV by the mono-top channel at $5σ$ level. Considering the systematic uncertainty of 10%, the exclusion limit for stop mass can be reached at about 1.5 TeV. Exclusion limits on stop mass and higgsino mass parameter $μ$ are also presented.

Large spin gaps in half metals MN4 (M=Mn, Fe, Co) with N2 dimers

We predict that cubic MN4 (M=Mn, Fe, Co) are all half metals with the largest spin gap up to ~ 5 eV. They possess robust ferromagnetic ground states with the highest Curie temperature up to ~ 103 K. Our calculations indicate these compounds are energetically favored, dynamically and mechanically stable. It is proposed that self-doping of these 3d transition metals occurs in MN4 due to the reduction in electronegativity of N2 dimers. This model can well explain the calculated integer magnetic moments, large spin gaps of MN4 and semiconducting behavior for NiN4 as well. Our results highlight the difference in electronegativity between transition metal ions and non-metal entities in forming half metals and the role of N2 dimer in enlarging the spin gaps for nitride half metals.

Global small analytic solutions of MHD boundary layer equations

In this paper, we prove the global existence and the large time decay estimate of solutions to the two-dimensional MHD boundary layer equations with small initial data, which is analytical in the tangential variable. The main idea of the proof is motivated by that of \cite{PZ5}. The additional difficulties are: 1. there appears the magnetic field; 2. the far field here depends on the tangential variable; 3. the Reynolds number is different from magnetic Reynolds number. In particular, we solved an open question in \cite{XY19} concerning the large time existence of analytical solutions to the MHD boundary layer equations.

FBG-Based Triaxial Force Sensor Integrated with an Eccentrically Configured Imaging Probe for Endoluminal Optical Biopsy

Accurate force sensing is important for endoluminal intervention in terms of both safety and lesion targeting. This paper develops an FBG-based force sensor for robotic bronchoscopy by configuring three FBG sensors at the lateral side of a conical substrate. It allows a large and eccentric inner lumen for the interventional instrument, enabling a flexible imaging probe inside to perform optical biopsy. The force sensor is embodied with a laser-profiled continuum robot and thermo drift is fully compensated by three temperature sensors integrated on the circumference surface of the sensor substrate. Different decoupling approaches are investigated, and nonlinear decoupling is adopted based on the cross-validation SVM and a Gaussian kernel function, achieving an accuracy of 10.58 mN, 14.57 mN and 26.32 mN along X, Y and Z axis, respectively. The tissue test is also investigated to further demonstrate the feasibility of the developed triaxial force sensor

Probing vector-like top partner from same-sign dilepton events at the LHC

The Standard Model is a successful theory but lack of a mechanism for neutrino mass generation as well as a solution to the naturalness problem. In the models that are proposed to simultaneously solve the two problems, heavy Majorana neutrinos and top partners are usually predicted that can lead to a new decay mode of the top partner mediated by the heavy Majorana neutrinos: $T\to b\,W^{+}\to b\,\ell^{+}\ell^{+}q\bar{q'}$. In this paper, we will study the observability of such a new signature via the pair production process of top partner $pp \to T\bar{T} \to 2b+ \ell^\pm \ell^\pm+4j$ in a model independent way. By performing Monte-Carlo simulation, we present the $2σ$ exclusion limits of the top partner mass and mixing parameters at the HL-LHC.

Probing a new decay of vector-like top partner mediated by heavy Majorana neutrino via single production

Models beyond the Standard Model have been proposed to simultaneously solve the problems of naturalness and neutrino mass, in which heavy Majorana neutrinos and vector-like top partners are usually predicted. A new decay channel of the top partner mediated by the heavy Majorana neutrino can thus appear: $T\to b\,W^{+}\to b\,\ell^{+}\ell^{+}q\bar{q'}$. We study in this paper the observability of this decay process through single production of the top partner at the 14 TeV LHC: $pp\to T/\bar{T}$+jets$\to b/\bar{b}+μ^{\pm}μ^{\pm}$+jets. $2σ$ exclusion bounds on the top partner mass and mixing parameters are given by Monte-Carlo simulation, which surpass those from the search through VLT pair production in the mass range of $m_{T}>1.3$ TeV.
