Beam energy and system dependence of rapidity-even dipolar flow

New measurements of rapidity-even dipolar flow, v$^{even}_{1}$, are presented for several transverse momenta, $p_T$, and centrality intervals in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}~=~200,~39$ and $19.6$ GeV, U+U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}~=~193$ GeV, and Cu+Au, Cu+Cu, d+Au and p+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}~=~200$~GeV. The v$^{even}_{1}$ shows characteristic dependencies on $p_{T}$, centrality, collision system and $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$, consistent with the expectation from a hydrodynamic-like expansion to the dipolar fluctuation in the initial state. These measurements could serve as constraints to distinguish between different initial-state models, and aid a more reliable extraction of the specific viscosity $η/s$.

Beam energy dependence of the anisotropic flow coefficients v$_n$

Recent STAR measurements of the anisotropic flow coefficients, v$_{n}$, are presented for Au+Au collisions spanning the beam energy range $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 7.7 - 200$~GeV. The measurements indicate dependences on harmonic number, $n$, transverse momentum ($p_T$), pseudorapidity ($η$), collision centrality ($\mathrm{cent}$) and beam energy ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$) which could serve as important constraints to test different initial-state models and to aid precision extraction of the temperature dependence of the specific shear viscosity.

Finite-Size Scaling of Non-Gaussian Fluctuations Near the QCD Critical Point

An effective Finite-Size Scaling (FSS) of moment products from recent STAR measurements of the variance $σ$, skewness $S$ and kurtosis $κ$ of net-proton multiplicity distributions, are reported for a broad range of collision centralities in Au+Au ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 7.7 - 200$ GeV) collisions. The products $Sσ$ and $κσ^2 $, which are directly related to the hgher-order baryon number susceptibility ratios $χ^{(3)}_B/χ^{(2)}_B$ and $χ^{(4)}_B/χ^{(2)}_B$, show scaling patterns consistent with earlier indications for a second order phase transition at a critical end point (CEP) in the plane of temperature vs. baryon chemical potential ($T,μ_B$) of the QCD phase diagram. The resulting scaling functions validate the earlier estimates of $T^{\text{cep}} \sim 165$ MeV and $μ_B^{\text{cep}} \sim 95$ MeV for the location of the CEP, and the critical exponents used to assign its 3D Ising model universality class.

Influence of finite volume and magnetic field effects on the QCD phase diagram

The Polyakov linear sigma model (PLSM) is used to investigate the respective influence of a finite volume and a magnetic field on the quark-hadron phase boundary in the plane of baryon chemical potential ($μ_{B}$) vs. temperature ($T$) of the QCD phase diagram. The calculated results indicate sizable shifts of the quark-hadron phase boundary to lower values of $(μ_{B}~\text{and}~T)$ for increasing magnetic field strength, and an opposite shift to higher values of $(μ_{B}~\text{and}~T)$ for decreasing system volume. Such shifts could have important implications for extraction of the thermodynamic properties of the QCD phase diagram from heavy ion data.

Scaling properties of the mean multiplicity and pseudorapidity density in $e^{-}+e^{+}$, $e^{\pm}$+p, p($\bar{\mathrm{p}}$)+p, p+A and A+A(B) collisions

The pseudorapidity density (dN/deta) for p+p, p+A and A+A(B) collisions, and the mean multiplicity for ee, ep, and p+p collisions, are studied for an inclusive range of beam energies (Root_s). Characteristic scaling patterns are observed for both dN/deta and , consistent with a thermal particle production mechanism for the bulk of the soft particles produced in all of these systems. They also validate an essential role for quark participants in these collisions. The scaled values for dN/deta and are observed to factorize into contributions which depend on log(Root_s) and the number of nucleon or quark participant pairs (Npp). Quantification of these contributions give expressions which serve to systematize dN/deta and measurements spanning nearly four orders of magnitude in Root_s, and to predict their values as a function of Root_s and Npp.

On SU(3) effective models and chiral phase-transition

The sensitivity of Polyakov Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model as an effective theory of quark dynamics to chiral symmetry has been utilized in studying the QCD phase-diagram. Also, Poyakov linear sigma-model (PLSM), in which information about the confining glue sector of the theory was included through Polyakov-loop potential. Furthermore, from quasi-particle model (QPM), the gluonic sector of QPM is integrated to LSM in order to reproduce recent lattice calculations. We review PLSM, QLSM, PNJL and HRG with respect to their descriptions for the chiral phase-transition. We analyse chiral order-parameter M(T), normalized net-strange condensate Delta_{q,s}(T) and chiral phase-diagram and compare the results with lattice QCD. We conclude that PLSM works perfectly in reproducing M(T) and Delta_{q,s}(T). HRG model reproduces Delta_{q,s}(T), while PNJL and QLSM seem to fail. These differences are present in QCD chiral phase-diagram. PLSM chiral boundary is located in upper band of lattice QCD calculations and agree well with freeze-out results deduced from high-energy experiments and thermal models. Also, we find that the chiral temperature calculated from from HRG model is larger than that from PLSM. This is also larger than the freeze-out temperatures calculated in lattice QCD and deduced from experiments and thermal models. The corresponding temperature T and chemical potential mu sets are very similar to that of PLSM. This might be explained, because the chiral T and mu are calculated using different order parameters; in HRG vanishing quark-antiquark condensate but in PLSM crossing (equaling) chiral condensates and Polyakov loop potentials. The latter assumed that the two phase transitions; chiral and deconfinement, take place at the same temperature.

SU(3) Polyakov Linear $σ$-Model in Magnetic Field: Thermodynamics, Higher-Order Moments, Chiral Phase Structure and Meson Masses

Effects of external magnetic field on various properties of the quantum chromodynamics under extreme conditions of temperature and density have been analysed. To this end, we use SU(3) Polyakov linear sigma-model and assume that the external magnetic field eB adds some restrictions to the quarks energy due to the existence of free charges in the plasma phase. In doing this, we apply the Landau theory of quantization. This requires an additional temperature to drive the system through the chiral phase-transition. Accordingly, the dependence of the critical temperature of chiral and confinement phase-transitions on the magnetic field is characterized. Based on this, we have studied the thermal evolution of thermodynamic quantities and the first four higher-order moment of particle multiplicity. Having all these calculations, we have studied the effects of magnetic field on chiral phase-transition. We found that both critical temperature T_c and critical chemical potential increase with increasing the magnetic field eB. Last but not least, the magnetic effects of the thermal evolution of four scalar and four pseudoscalar meson states are studied. We concluded that the meson masses decrease as the temperature increases till T_c. Then, the vacuum effect becomes dominant and rapidly increases with the temperature T. At low T, the scalar meson masses normalized to the lowest Matsubara frequency rapidly decreases as T increases. Then, starting from T_c, we find that the thermal dependence almost vanishes. Furthermore, the meson masses increase with increasing magnetic field. This gives characteristic phase diagram of T vs. external magnetic field $B. At high T, we find that the masses of almost all meson states become temperature independent. It is concluded that the various meson states likely have different T_c's.

Thermodynamics and higher order moments in SU(3) linear $σ$-model with gluonic quasi-particles

In framework of linear $σ$-model (LSM) with three quark flavors, the chiral phase-diagram at finite temperature and density is investigated. At temperatures higher than the critical temperature ($ T_c $), we added to LSM the gluonic sector from the quasi-particle model (QPM), which assumes that the interacting gluons in the strongly interacting matter, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), are phenomenologically the same as non-interacting massive quasi-particles. The dependence of the chiral condensates of strange and non-strange quarks on temperature and chemical potential is analysed. Then, we have calculated the thermodynamics in the new approach (combination of LSM and QPM). Confronting the results with recent lattice QCD simulations shows an excellent agreement in almost all thermodynamic quantities. The first and second order moments of particle multiplicity are studied in dependence on the chemical potential but at fixed temperature and on the chemical potential but at fixed temperature. These are implemented in characterizing the large fluctuations accompanying the chiral phase-transition. The results of first and second order moments are compared with the SU(3) Polyakov linear $σ$-model (PLSM). Also, the resulting phase-diagrams deduced in PLSM and LSM$+$QPM are compared with each other.

SU(3) Polyakov Linear Sigma-Model in an External Magnetic Field

In the present work, we analyse the effects of an external magnetic field on the chiral critical temperature $T_c$ of strongly interacting matter. In doing this, we can characterize the magnetic properties of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) strong interacting matter, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We investigate this in the framework of the SU(3) Polyakov linear sigma-model (PLSM). To this end, we implement two approaches representing two systems, in which the Polyakov-loop potential added to PLMS either renormalized or non-normalized. The effects of Landau quantization on the strongly interacting matter is conjectures to reduce the electromagnetic interactions between quarks. In this case, the color interactions will be dominant and increasing, which - in turn - can be achieved by increasing of the Polyakov-loop fields. Obviously, each of them equips us with a different understanding about the critical temperature under the effect of an external magnetic field. In both systems, we obtain a paramagnetic response. In one system, we find that $T_c$ increases with increasing the magnetic field. In the other one, $T_c$ significantly decreases with increasing the magnetic field.
