Spread Complexity and Topological Transitions in the Kitaev Chain

A number of recent works have argued that quantum complexity, a well-known concept in computer science that has re-emerged recently in the context of the physics of black holes, may be used as an efficient probe of novel phenomena such as quantum chaos and even quantum phase transitions. In this article, we provide further support for the latter, using a 1-dimensional p-wave superconductor - the Kitaev chain - as a prototype of a system displaying a topological phase transition. The Hamiltonian of the Kitaev chain manifests two gapped phases of matter with fermion parity symmetry; a trivial strongly-coupled phase and a topologically non-trivial, weakly-coupled phase with Majorana zero-modes. We show that Krylov-complexity (or, more precisely, the associated spread-complexity) is able to distinguish between the two and provides a diagnostic of the quantum critical point that separates them. We also comment on some possible ambiguity in the existing literature on the sensitivity of different measures of complexity to topological phase transitions.

Some characterizations of continuous symmetric distributions based on extropy of record values

Using different extropies of k record values various characterizations are provided for continuous symmetric distributions. The results are in addition to the results of Ahmadi, J. (Statistical Papers, 2021, 62:2603-2626). These include cumulative residual (past) extropy, generalised cumulative residual (past) extropy, also some common Kerridge inaccuracy measures. Using inaccuracy extropy measures, it is demonstrated that continuous symmetric distributions are characterised by an equality of information in upper and lower k-records.

On General Weighted Extropy of Ranked Set Sampling

In the past six years, a considerable attention has been given to the extropy measure proposed by Lad et al. (2015). Weighted Extropy of Ranked Set Sampling was studied and compared with simple random sampling by Qiu et al. (2022). The general weighted extropy and some results related to it are introduced in this paper. We provide general weighted extropy of ranked set sampling. We also studied characterization results, stochastic comparison and monotone properties of general weighted extropy.

Porosity governs failure in bioconsolidated space bricks

Understanding the mechanical response and failure of consolidated extra-terrestrial soils requires analyses of the interactions between propagating cracks the material's inherent pore structure. In this work, we investigate the fracture behaviour of lunar soil simulant consolidated using microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP). We develop a numerical framework, based on a lattice network with local beam elements, to simulate the nucleation, propagation, branching and merging of multiple cracks within the sample. Our simulations capture the effects of local pores on crack paths as well as provides a means to predict the behaviour of samples with varying global porosity and/or uncertainties in local material stiffness. We identify multiple statistical lattice parameters that encode signatures of single or multiple crack growth events. Our results reveal the complexities involved in the fracture process with porous brittle solids and may easily be adapted to understand failure mechanisms and micro/macro crack evolution in other consolidated structures.

Indirect detection of Cosmological Constant from interacting open quantum system

We study the indirect detection of Cosmological Constant from an open quantum system of interacting spins, weakly interacting with a thermal bath, a massless scalar field minimally coupled with the static de Sitter background, by computing the spectroscopic shifts. By assuming pairwise interaction between spins, we construct states using a generalisation of the superposition principle. The corresponding spectroscopic shifts, caused by the effective Hamiltonian of the system due to Casimir Polder interaction, are seen to play a crucial role in predicting a very tiny value of the Cosmological Constant, in the static patch of de Sitter space, which is consistent with the observed value from the Planck measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies.

Data Quality Toolkit: Automatic assessment of data quality and remediation for machine learning datasets

The quality of training data has a huge impact on the efficiency, accuracy and complexity of machine learning tasks. Various tools and techniques are available that assess data quality with respect to general cleaning and profiling checks. However these techniques are not applicable to detect data issues in the context of machine learning tasks, like noisy labels, existence of overlapping classes etc. We attempt to re-look at the data quality issues in the context of building a machine learning pipeline and build a tool that can detect, explain and remediate issues in the data, and systematically and automatically capture all the changes applied to the data. We introduce the Data Quality Toolkit for machine learning as a library of some key quality metrics and relevant remediation techniques to analyze and enhance the readiness of structured training datasets for machine learning projects. The toolkit can reduce the turn-around times of data preparation pipelines and streamline the data quality assessment process. Our toolkit is publicly available via IBM API Hub [1] platform, any developer can assess the data quality using the IBM's Data Quality for AI apis [2]. Detailed tutorials are also available on IBM Learning Path [3].

A study on reliability of a $k$-out-of-$n$ system equipped with a cold standby component based on copula

A $k$-out-of-$n$ system consisting of $n$ exchangeable components equipped with a single cold standby component is considered. All the components including standby are assumed to be dependent and this dependence is modeled by a copula function. An exact expression for the reliability function of the considered system has been obtained. We also compute three different mean residual life functions of the system. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results. Our studies subsume some of the initial studies in the literature.

Circuit Complexity From Cosmological Islands

Recently in various theoretical works, path-breaking progress has been made in recovering the well-known Page Curve of an evaporating black hole with Quantum Extremal Islands, proposed to solve the long-standing black hole information loss problem related to the unitarity issue. Motivated by this concept, in this paper, we study cosmological circuit complexity in the presence (or absence) of Quantum Extremal Islands in the negative (or positive) Cosmological Constant with radiation in the background of Friedmann-Lema$\hat{i}$tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) space-time i.e the presence and absence of islands in anti-de Sitter and the de Sitter spacetime having SO(2, 3) and SO(1, 4) isometries respectively. Without using any explicit details of any gravity model, we study the behaviour of the circuit complexity function with respect to the dynamical cosmological solution for the scale factors for the above-mentioned two situations in FLRW space-time using squeezed state formalism. By studying the cosmological circuit complexity, Out-of-Time Ordered Correlators, and entanglement entropy of the modes of the squeezed state, in different parameter spaces, we conclude the non-universality of these measures. Their remarkably different features in the different parameter spaces suggest their dependence on the parameters of the model under consideration.

Comparison of Outlier Detection Techniques for Structured Data

An outlier is an observation or a data point that is far from rest of the data points in a given dataset or we can be said that an outlier is away from the center of mass of observations. Presence of outliers can skew statistical measures and data distributions which can lead to misleading representation of the underlying data and relationships. It is seen that the removal of outliers from the training dataset before modeling can give better predictions. With the advancement of machine learning, the outlier detection models are also advancing at a good pace. The goal of this work is to highlight and compare some of the existing outlier detection techniques for the data scientists to use that information for outlier algorithm selection while building a machine learning model.

QMetrology from QCosmology: Study with Entangled Two Qubit Open Quantum System in De Sitter Space

In this paper, our prime objective is to apply the techniques of parameter estimation theory and the concept of Quantum Metrology in the form of Fisher Information to investigate the role of certain physical quantities in the open quantum dynamics of a two entangled qubit system under the Markovian approximation. There exist various physical parameters which characterize such system, but can not be treated as any quantum mechanical observable. It becomes imperative to do a detailed parameter estimation analysis to determine the physically consistent parameter space of such quantities. We apply both Classical Fisher Information (CFI) and Quantum Fisher Information (QFI) to correctly estimate these parameters, which play significant role to describe the out-of-equilibrium and the long range quantum entanglement phenomena of open quantum system. Quantum Metrology, compared to classical parameter estimation theory, plays a two-fold superior role, improving the precision and accuracy of parameter estimation. Additionally, in this paper we present a new avenue in terms of Quantum Metrology, which beats the classical parameter estimation. We also present an interesting result of revival of out-of-equilibrium feature at the late time scales, arising due to the long range quantum entanglement at early time scale and provide a physical interpretation for the same in terms of Bell's Inequality Violation in early time scale giving rise to non-locality.

The Generalized OTOC from Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics: Study of Random Fluctuations from Eigenstate Representation of Correlation Functions

The concept of out-of-time-ordered correlation (OTOC) function is treated as a very strong theoretical probe of quantum randomness, using which one can study both chaotic and non-chaotic phenomena in the context of quantum statistical mechanics. In this paper, we define a general class of OTOC, which can perfectly capture quantum randomness phenomena in a better way. Further we demonstrate an equivalent formalism of computation using a general time independent Hamiltonian having well defined eigenstate representation for integrable supersymmetric quantum systems. We found that one needs to consider two new correlators apart from the usual one to have a complete quantum description. To visualize the impact of the given formalism we consider the two well known models viz. Harmonic Oscillator and one dimensional potential well within the framework of supersymmetry. For the Harmonic Oscillator case we obtain similar periodic time dependence but dissimilar parameter dependences compared to the results obtained from both micro-canonical and canonical ensembles in quantum mechanics without supersymmetry. On the other hand, for one dimensional potential well problem we found significantly different time scale and the other parameter dependence compared to the results obtained from non-supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Finally, to establish the consistency of the prescribed formalism in the classical limit, we demonstrate the phase space averaged version of the classical version of OTOCs from a model independent Hamiltonian along with the previously mentioned these well cited models.

Small, Sparse, but Substantial: Techniques for Segmenting Small Agricultural Fields Using Sparse Ground Data

The recent thrust on digital agriculture (DA) has renewed significant research interest in the automated delineation of agricultural fields. Most prior work addressing this problem have focused on detecting medium to large fields, while there is strong evidence that around 40\% of the fields world-wide and 70% of the fields in Asia and Africa are small. The lack of adequate labeled images for small fields, huge variations in their color, texture, and shape, and faint boundary lines separating them make it difficult to develop an end-to-end learning model for detecting such fields. Hence, in this paper, we present a multi-stage approach that uses a combination of machine learning and image processing techniques. In the first stage, we leverage state-of-the-art edge detection algorithms such as holistically-nested edge detection (HED) to extract first-level contours and polygons. In the second stage, we propose image-processing techniques to identify polygons that are non-fields, over-segmentations, or noise and eliminate them. The next stage tackles under-segmentations using a combination of a novel ``cut-point'' based technique and localized second-level edge detection to obtain individual parcels. Since a few small, non-cropped but vegetated or constructed pockets can be interspersed in areas that are predominantly croplands, in the final stage, we train a classifier for identifying each parcel from the previous stage as an agricultural field or not. In an evaluation using high-resolution imagery, we show that our approach has a high F-Score of 0.84 in areas with large fields and reasonable accuracy with an F-Score of 0.73 in areas with small fields, which is encouraging.

Stochastic comparison study of the general family of PHR and PRHR distributions

In this paper, we have obtained conditions on parameters that result in dispersive ordering and star ordering among two unequal sets of random variables from Proportional hazard rate and Proportional reversed hazard rate family of distributions. The n-independent random variables under observation belonging to a multiple-outlier model are given as corollary. The conditions obtained involve simple inequalities among the parameters and class of life distribution corresponding to ageing. Some stochastic ordering results for sample minimum and maximum with dependency based on Archimedean copula has also been studied by varying the location parameters.

Usual stochastic ordering results for series and parallel systems with components having Exponentiated Chen distribution

In this paper, we have discussed the usual stochastic ordering relations between two systems. Each system consists of n mutually independent components. The components follow Exponentiated (Extended) Chen distribution with three parameters $α, β, λ$. Two popular systems are taken into consideration, one is the series system and another is the parallel system. The results in this paper are obtained by varying one parameter and the other parameters are kept constant. The hazard rate ordering or reversed hazard rate ordering relations that are not possible for series or parallel systems have been demonstrated with the help of counterexamples.

In this paper, we have discussed the stochastic comparison of the smallest and largest ordered statistic from independent heterogeneous Weibull-G random variables and Gompertz Makeham random variables. We compare systems arising from taking different model parameters and obtain stochastic ordering results under the condition of multivariate chain majorization. Using the notion of vector majorization, we compare different systems and obtain stochastic ordering results.

Stochastic ordering results in parallel and series systems with Gumble distributed random variables

The stochastic comparisons of parallel and series system are worthy of study. In this paper, we present some stochastic comparisons of parallel and series systems having independent components from Gumble distribution with two parameters (one location and one shape). Here, we first put a condition for the likelihood ratio ordering of the parallel systems and second we use the concept of vector majorization technique to compare the systems by the reversed hazard rate ordering, the hazard rate ordering, the dispersive ordering, and the less uncertainty ordering with respect to the location parameter.

Some ordering properties of highest and lowest order statistics with exponentiated Gumble type-II distributed components

In this paper, we have studied the stochastic comparisons of the highest and lowest order statistics of exponentiated Gumble type-II distribution with three parameters. We have compared both the statistics by using three different stochastic ordering. First, we consider a system with different scale and outer shape parameters and then we study the usual stochastic ordering of the lowest and highest order statistics in the sense of multivariate chain majorization. In addition, we construct two examples to support our results. Second, by using the vector majorization technique, we study the usual stochastic ordering, the reversed failure rate ordering and the likelihood ratio ordering with respect to different outer shape parameters, next, by varying the inner shape parameter, we discuss the usual stochastic order of the lowest order statistics and we have shown that the highest order statistics are not comparable in the usual stochastic ordering by an example.
