Termomagnetic shock waves in the vortex state of type-II superconductors

The nonlinear dynamics of thermal and electromagnetic perturbations in the vortex state of type II superconductors is analyzed with account of dissipation and dispersion effects. A theoretical analysis shows that nonlinear thermal and electromagnetic dissipative waves (structures) may be formed under certain conditions on the sample surface. The structures possess a finite-amplitude and propagate at a constant velocity. The possibility of experimental observation of thermomagnetic shock waves is briefly discussed.

On the stability of the critical state with inhomogeneous temperature in composite superconductors

The problem of the thermal and magnetic destruction of the critical state in composite superconductors is investigated. The initial distributions of temperature and electromagnetic field are assumed to be essentially inhomogeneous. The limit of the thermomagnetic instability in quasi-stationary approximation is determined. The obtained integral criterion, unlike the analogous criterion for a homogeneous temperature profile, is shown to take into account the influence of any part of the superconductor on the threshold for critical-state instability.

Nonlinear Stationary Waves with Transport Current in Superconductors

The profile of a nonlinear stationary thermomagnetic wave in the resistive state of superconductors is studied at different transport currents. It is proved that the thermomagnetic wave has an oscillating profile at relatively high values of the transport current in the sample. A shock wave with a monotonic structure corresponds to comparatively weak transport currents. The wave propagation velocity and the wave front width in a superconductor are estimated.

Nonlinear Thermomagnetic Waves in the Resistive State of Superconductors

The evolution of thermomagnetic perturbations in the resistive state of superconductors is considered. A qualitative pattern of the formation and further development of nonlinear stationary structures that describe the final stage of thermal and electromagnetic perturbations in a superconductor is investigated. The wave propagation velocity and the wave front width in a superconductor are estimated.

Running Waves in the Mixed State of Type II Superconductors

Nonlinear dynamics of the thermal and electromagnetic instabilities of the mixed state in type II superconductors has been analysed taking into account the effect of dissipation and dispersion. The existence of nonlinear running waves describing the final stage of evolution of the thermomagnetic instability in superconductors is demonstrated analytically.

Stable Thermomagnetic Waves in Hard Superconductors

The problem of the stability of a nonlinear thermomagnetic wave with respect to small thermal and electromagnetic perturbations in hard superconductors was studied. It is shown that spatially bounded solutions may correspond only to the perturbations decaying with time, which implies stability of the nonlinear thermomagnetic wave.

Stationary Thermomagnetic Waves in Superconductors

The propagation of a nonlinear stationary thermomagnetic wave in superconducting media is qualitatively analyzed in view of the effect of an external magnetic field. The velocity and the thickness of the wave front are estimated. It is demonstrated that the inclusion of an external magnetic field affects the thermomagnetic wave profile only slightly.

Nonlinear Running Waves in Type II Superconductors

A nonlinear dynamics of the thermal and electromagnetic instability of critical state in type II superconductors has been analysed taking into account effects of dissipation and dispersion. An existance of a nonlinear running waves describing a final stage of evolution of the thermomagnetic instability in superconductors is demonstrated analitically.

Nonlinear Thermomagnetic Waves in Type II Superconductors

This work is devoted to analysis of the nonlinear dynamics of interrelated thermal and electromagnetic perturbations in a superconductor caused by dissipative effects involved in the viscous motion of the magnetic flux. The structure and evolution of the stationary thermomagnetic waves propagating in the superconductor is studied based on a system of nonlinear equations describing dynamics of the instability development in the system studied. The apperance of these structures is qualititively described and the wave propagation velocity is estimated. The affect a thermoactivated flux creep to the structures of the nonlinear thermomagnetic wave propagation is studied. It is shown that taking into account a nonlinear dependency of the current density $j$ on the electric field strength $E$ would not qualitatively change the main results, since the character of the equilibrium state on the phase plane remains esentially the same.
