For a prime level $N$, we compute the index of the anemic Hecke algebra of weight 2 level $Γ_0(N)$ forms inside the full Hecke algebra. We prove that the index is fully described by the presence of weight 1 Katz forms of the same level.
In a paper of Kedlaya and Medvedovsky, the number of distinct dihedral mod 2 modular representations of level N was calculated, and a conjecture on the dimension of the space of level N weight 2 modular forms giving rise to each representation was stated. In this paper we prove this conjecture.
We prove a few new cases of the Sato-Tate conjecture for abelian surfaces, using a new automorphy theorem of Allen et al. Then in the unproven cases, we use partial results to describe nontrivial asymptotics on the trace of Frobenius, and prove their optimality given current knowledge.
