Phase diagram evolution at finite coupling in strong coupling lattice QCD

We investigate the chiral phase transition in the strong coupling lattice QCD at finite temperature and density with finite coupling effects. We adopt one species of staggered fermion, and develop an analytic formulation based on strong coupling and cluster expansions. We derive the effective potential as a function of two order parameters, the chiral condensate sigma and the quark number density $ρ_q$, in a self-consistent treatment of the next-to-leading order (NLO) effective action terms. NLO contributions lead to modifications of quark mass, chemical potential and the quark wave function renormalization factor. While the ratio mu_c(T=0)/Tc(mu=0) is too small in the strong coupling limit, it is found to increase as beta=2Nc/g^2 increases. The critical point is found to move in the lower T direction as beta increases. Since the vector interaction induced by $ρ_q$ is shown to grow as beta, the present trend is consistent with the results in Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models. The interplay between two order parameters leads to the existence of partially chiral restored matter, where effective chemical potential is automatically adjusted to the quark excitation energy.

Formulation of Supersymmetry on a Lattice as a Representation of a Deformed Superalgebra

The lattice superalgebra of the link approach is shown to satisfy a Hopf algebraic supersymmetry where the difference operator is introduced as a momentum operator. The breakdown of the Leibniz rule for the lattice difference operator is accommodated as a coproduct operation of (quasi)triangular Hopf algebra and the associated field theory is consistently defined as a braided quantum field theory. Algebraic formulation of path integral is perturbatively defined and Ward-Takahashi identity can be derived on the lattice. The claimed inconsistency of the link approach leading to the ordering ambiguity for a product of fields is solved by introducing an almost trivial braiding structure corresponding to the triangular structure of the Hopf algebraic superalgebra. This could be seen as a generalization of spin and statistics relation on the lattice. From the consistency of this braiding structure of fields a grading nature for the momentum operator is required.

Matrix formulation of superspace on 1D lattice with two supercharges

Following the approach developed by some of the authors in recent papers and using a matrix representation for the superfields, we formulate an exact supersymmetric theory with two supercharges on a one dimensional lattice. In the superfield formalism supersymmetry transformations are uniquely defined and do not suffer of the ambiguities recently pointed out by some authors. The action can be written in a unique way and it is invariant under all supercharges. A modified Leibniz rule applies when supercharges act on a superfield product and the corresponding Ward identities take a modified form but hold exactly at least at the tree level, while their validity in presence of radiative corrections is still an open problem and is not considered here.

Exact Extended Supersymmetry on a Lattice: Twisted N=4 Super Yang-Mills in Three Dimensions

We propose a lattice formulation of three dimensional super Yang-Mills model with a twisted N=4 supersymmetry. The extended supersymmetry algebra of all the eight supercharges is fully and exactly realized on the lattice with a modified "Leibniz rule". The formulation we employ here is a three dimensional extension of manifestly gauge covariant method which was developed in our previous proposal of Dirac-Kaehler twisted N=2 super Yang-Mills on two dimensional lattice. The twisted N=4 supersymmetry algebra is geometrically realized on a three dimensional lattice with link supercharges and the use of "shifted" (anti-)commutators. A possible solution to the recent critiques on the link formulation will be discussed.

Meson mass spectrum at finite temperature and density in the strong coupling limit of lattice QCD for color SU(3)

We investigate the meson mass spectrum in the strong coupling limit of lattice QCD with one species of staggered fermion for the SU(N_c) color gauge group, including N_c=3. We analytically derive meson masses as functions of temperature and chemical potential via chiral condensates. We show that meson masses quickly decrease to zero when the chemical potential or the temperature approaches to the critical value.

Lattice Formulation of the N=4 D=3 Twisted Super Yang-Mills

A lattice formulation of a three dimensional super Yang-Mills model with a twisted N=4 supersymmetry is proposed. The extended supersymmetry algebra of all eight supercharges is fully and exactly realized on the lattice with a modified "Leibniz rule". The formulation we employ here is a three dimensional extension of the manifestly gauge covariant method which was developed in our previous proposal of Dirac-Kähler twisted N=2 super Yang-Mills on a two dimensional lattice. The twisted N=4 supersymmetry algebra is geometrically realized on a three dimensional lattice with link supercharges and the use of "shifted" (anti-)commutators. A possible solution to the recent critiques on the link formulation will be discussed.

Exact Extended Supersymmetry on a Lattice: Twisted N=2 Super Yang-Mills in Two Dimensions

We propose a lattice action for two dimensional super Yang-Mills theory with a twisted N=2 supersymmetry. The extended supersymmetry is fully and exactly realized on the lattice. The method employed is quite general and its extension to the N=4 supersymmetry in four dimensions is briefly presented. The lattice has a new type of ``fermionic'' links, where odd Grassmann variables, supercharges and fermionic connections sit. The Leibniz rule is preserved on the lattice, although in a modified ``shifted'' form that takes into account the link nature of both derivatives and supercharges. Superfields are semi-local objects and superfield expansion is naturally embedded in the lattice structure. The Dirac-Kähler twist generates the extended twisted supersymmetry, turning the multiplicity of species doublers into the multiplicity due to the extended supersymmetry. In this way the balance between bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom is preserved.

N=4 Twisted Superspace from Dirac-Kahler Twist and Off-shell SUSY Invariant Actions in Four Dimensions

We propose N=4 twisted superspace formalism in four dimensions by introducing Dirac-Kahler twist. In addition to the BRST charge as a scalar counter part of twisted supercharge we find vector and tensor twisted supercharges. By introducing twisted chiral superfield we explicitly construct off-shell twisted N=4 SUSY invariant action. We can propose variety of supergauge invariant actions by introducing twisted vector superfield. We may, however, need to find further constraints to identify twisted N=4 super Yang-Mills action. We propose a superconnection formalism of twisted superspace where constraints play a crucial role. It turns out that N=4 superalgebra of Dirac-Kahler twist can be decomposed into N=2 sectors. We can then construct twisted N=2 super Yang-Mills actions by the superconnection formalism of twisted superspace in two and four dimensions.

Twisted N=2 exact SUSY on the lattice for BF and Wess-Zumino

We formulate exact supersymmetric models on a lattice. We introduce noncommutativity to ensure the Leibniz rule. With the help of superspace formalism, we give supertransformations which keep the N=2 twisted SUSY algebra exactly. The action is given as a product of (anti)chiral superfields on the lattice. We present BF and Wess-Zumino models as explicit examples of our formulation. Both models have exact N=2 twisted SUSY in 2 dimensional space at a finite lattice spacing. In component fields, the action has supercharge exact form.

Twisted Superspace on a Lattice

We propose a new formulation which realizes exact twisted supersymmetry for all the supercharges on a lattice by twisted superspace formalism. We show explicit examples of N=2 twisted supersymmetry invariant BF and Wess-Zumino models in two dimensions. We introduce mild lattice noncommutativity to preserve Leibniz rule on the lattice. The formulation is based on the twisted superspace formalism for N=D=2 supersymmetry which was proposed recently. From the consistency condition of the noncommutativity of superspace, we find an unexpected three-dimensional lattice structure which may reduce into two dimensional lattice where the superspace describes semilocally scattered fermions and bosons within a double size square lattice.

Twisted Superspace for N=D=2 Super BF and Yang-Mills with Dirac-Kähler Fermion Mechanism

We propose a twisted D=N=2 superspace formalism. The relation between the twisted super charges including the BRST charge, vector and pseudo scalar super charges and the N=2 spinor super charges is established. We claim that this relation is essentially related with the Dirac-Kähler fermion mechanism. We show that a fermionic bilinear form of twisted N=2 chiral and anti-chiral superfields is equivalent to the quantized version of BF theory with the Landau type gauge fixing while a bosonic bilinear form leads to the N=2 Wess-Zumino action. We then construct a Yang-Mills action described by the twisted N=2 chiral and vector superfields, and show that the action is equivalent to the twisted version of the D=N=2 super Yang-Mills action, previously obtained from the quantized generalized topological Yang-Mills action with instanton gauge fixing.

Dirac-Kaehler Fermion from Clifford Product with Noncommutative Differential Form on a Lattice

We formulate Dirac-Kaehler fermion action by introducing a new Clifford product with noncommutative differential form on a lattice. Hermiticity of the Dirac-Kaehler action requires to choose the lattice structure having both orientabilities on a link. The Kogut-Susskind fermion and the staggered fermion actions are derived directly from the Dirac-Kaehler fermion formulated by the Clifford product. The lattice QCD action with Dirac-Kaehler matter fermion is also derived via an inner product defined by the Clifford product.

Numerical study for the c-dependence of fractal dimension in two-dimensional quantum gravity

We numerically investigate the fractal structure of two-dimensional quantum gravity coupled to matter central charge c for $-2 \leq c \leq 1$. We reformulate Q-state Potts model into the model which can be identified as a weighted percolation cluster model and can make continuous change of Q, which relates c, on the dynamically triangulated lattice. The c-dependence of the critical coupling is measured from the percolation probability and susceptibility. The c-dependence of the string susceptibility of the quantum surface is evaluated and has very good agreement with the theoretical predictions. The c-dependence of the fractal dimension based on the finite size scaling hypothesis is measured and has excellent agreement with one of the theoretical predictions previously proposed except for the region near $c\approx 1$.

Generalized Gauge Theories and Weinberg-Salam Model with Dirac-Kähler Fermions

We extend previously proposed generalized gauge theory formulation of Chern-Simons type and topological Yang-Mills type actions into Yang-Mills type actions. We formulate gauge fields and Dirac-Kähler matter fermions by all degrees of differential forms. The simplest version of the model which includes only zero and one form gauge fields accommodated with the graded Lie algebra of $SU(2|1)$ supergroup leads Weinberg-Salam model. Thus the Weinberg-Salam model formulated by noncommutative geometry is a particular example of the present formulation.

4-dimensional BF Gravity on the Lattice

We propose the lattice version of $BF$ gravity action whose partition function leads to the product of a particular form of 15-$j$ symbol which corresponds to a 4-simplex. The action is explicitly constructed by lattice $B$ field defined on triangles and link variables defined on dual links and is shown to be invariant under lattice local Lorentz transformation and Kalb-Ramond gauge transformation. We explicitly show that the partition function is Pachner move invariant and thus topological. The action includes the vanishing holonomy constraint which can be interpreted as a gauge fixing condition. This formulation of lattice $BF$ theory can be generalized into arbitrary dimensions.

N=2 Supersymmetric Model with Dirac-Kahler Fermions from Generalized Gauge Theory in Two Dimensions

We investigate the generalized gauge theory which has been proposed previously and show that in two dimensions the instanton gauge fixing of the generalized topological Yang-Mills action leads to a twisted N=2 supersymmetric action. We have found that the R-symmetry of N=2 supersymmetry can be identified with the flavour symmetry of Dirac-Kahler fermion formulation. Thus the procedure of twist allows topological ghost fields to be interpreted as the Dirac-Kahler matter fermions.

Non-String Pursuit towards Unified Model on the Lattice

Non-standard overview on the possible formulation towards a unified model on the lattice is presented. It is based on the generalized gauge theory which is formulated by differential forms and thus expected to fit in a simplicial manifold. We first review suggestive known results towards this direction. As a small step of concrete realization of the program, we propose a lattice Chern-Simons gravity theory which leads to the Chern-Simons gravity in the continuum limit via Ponzano-Regge model. We then summarize the quantization procedure of the generalized gauge theory and apply the formulation to the generalized topological Yang-Mills action with instanton gauge fixing. We find N=2 super Yang-Mills theory with Dirac-K{ä}hler fermions which are generated from ghosts via twisting mechanism. The Weinberg-Salam model is formulated by the generalized Yang-Mills action which includes Connes's non-commutative geometry formulation as a particular case. In the end a possible scenario to realize the program is proposed. The formulations given here are by far incomplete towards the final goal yet include hopeful evidences. This summary of the overview is the extended version of the talk given at Nishinomiya-Yukawa memorial symposium (Nishinomiya-city Japan, Nov. 1998).

Quantization of Infinitely Reducible Generalized Chern-Simons Actions in Two Dimensions

We investigate the quantization of two-dimensional version of the generalized Chern-Simons actions which were proposed previously. The models turn out to be infinitely reducible and thus we need infinite number of ghosts, antighosts and the corresponding antifields. The quantized minimal actions which satisfy the master equation of Batalin and Vilkovisky have the same Chern-Simons form. The infinite fields and antifields are successfully controlled by the unified treatment of generalized fields with quaternion algebra. This is a universal feature of generalized Chern-Simons theory and thus the quantization procedure can be naturally extended to arbitrary even dimensions.
