Momentum sections in Hamiltonian mechanics and sigma models

We show a constrained Hamiltonian system and a gauged sigma model have a structure of a momentum section and a Hamiltonian Lie algebroid theory recently introduced by Blohmann and Weinstein. We propose a generalization of a momentum section on a pre-multisymplectic manifold by considering gauged sigma models on a higher dimensional manifold.

DFT in supermanifold formulation and group manifold as background geometry

We develop the formulation of DFT on pre-QP-manifold. The consistency conditions like section condition and closure constraint are unified by a weak master equation. The Bianchi identities are also characterized by the pre-Bianchi identity. Then, the background metric and connections are formulated by using covariantized pre-QP-manifold. An application to the analysis of the DFT on group manifold is given.

On the relation of Lie algebroids to constrained systems and their BV/BFV formulation

We observe that a system of irreducible, fiber-linear, first class constraints on T*M is equivalent to the definition of a foliation Lie algebroid over M. The BFV formulation of the constrained system is given by the Hamiltonian lift of the Vaintrob description (E[1],Q) of the Lie algebroid to its cotangent bundle T*E[1]. Affine deformations of the constraints are parametrized by the first Lie algebroid cohomology H^1_Q and lead to irreducible constraints also for much more general Lie algebroids such as Dirac structures; the modified BFV function follows by the addition of a representative of the deformation charge. Adding a Hamiltonian to the system corresponds to a metric g on M. Evolution invariance of the constraint surface introduces a connection nabla on E and one reobtains the compatibility of g with (E,rho, nabla) found previously in the literature. The covariantization of the Hamiltonian to a function on T*E[1] serves as a BFV-Hamiltonian, iff, in addition, this connection is compatible with the Lie algebroid structure, turning (E, rho, [ , ], nabla) into a Cartan-Lie algebroid. The BV formulation of the system is obtained from BFV by a (time-dependent) AKSZ procedure.

Courant algebroids from double field theory in supergeometry

We provide a short review of Courant algebroids and graded symplectic manifolds and show how different Courant algebroids emerge from double field theory. Fluxes of double field theory and their Bianchi identities are formulated by using pre-QP-manifolds. We stress the relation of the Poisson Courant algebroid with R-flux as a solution of the double field theory section condition.

Off-Shell Covariantization of Algebroid Gauge Theories

We present a generalized method to construct field strengths and gauge symmetries, which yield a Yang-Mills type action with Lie n-algebroid gauge symmetry. The procedure makes use of off-shell covariantization in a supergeometric setting. We apply this method to the system of a 1-form gauge field and scalar fields with Lie n-algebroid gauge symmetry. We work out some characteristic examples.

Unified picture of non-geometric fluxes and T-duality in double field theory via graded symplectic manifolds

We give a systematic derivation of the local expressions of the NS H-flux, geometric F- as well as non-geometric Q- and R-fluxes in terms of bivector beta- and two-form B-potentials including vielbeins. They are obtained using a supergeometric method on QP-manifolds by twist of the standard Courant algebroid on the generalized tangent space without flux. Bianchi identities of the fluxes are easily deduced. We extend the discussion to the case of the double space and present a formulation of T-duality in terms of canonical transformations between graded symplectic manifolds. Finally, the construction is compared to the formerly introduced Poisson Courant algebroid, a Courant algebroid on a Poisson manifold, as a model for R-flux.

Topological Membranes, Current Algebras and H-flux - R-flux Duality based on Courant Algebroids

We construct a topological sigma model and a current algebra based on a Courant algebroid structure on a Poisson manifold. In order to construct models, we reformulate the Poisson Courant algebroid by supergeometric construction on a QP-manifold. A new duality of Courant algebroids which transforms H-flux and R-flux is proposed, where the transformation is interpreted as a canonical transformation of a graded symplectic manifold.

Higher Gauge Theories from Lie n-algebras and Off-Shell Covariantization

We analyze higher gauge theories in various dimensions using a supergeometric method based on a differential graded symplectic manifold, called a QP-manifold, which is closely related to the BRST-BV formalism in gauge theories. Extensions of the Lie 2-algebra gauge structure are formulated within the Lie n-algebra induced by the QP-structure. We find that in 5 and 6 dimensions there are special extensions of the gauge algebra. In these cases, a restriction of the gauge symmetry by imposing constraints on the auxiliary gauge fields leads to a covariantized theory. As an example we show that we can obtain an off-shell covariantized higher gauge theory in 5 dimensions, which is similar to the one proposed in [1] (arxiv:1206.5643).

Canonical Functions and Differential Graded Symplectic Pairs in Supergeometry and AKSZ Sigma Models with Boundary

Consistent boundary conditions for Alexandrov-Kontsevich-Schwartz-Zaboronsky (AKSZ) sigma models and the corresponding boundary theories are analyzed. As their mathematical structures, we introduce a generalization of differential graded symplectic manifolds, called twisted QP manifolds, in terms of graded symplectic geometry, canonical functions, and QP pairs. We generalize the AKSZ construction of topological sigma models to sigma models with Wess-Zumino terms and show that all the twisted Poisson-like structures known in the literature can actually be naturally realized as boundary conditions for AKSZ sigma models.

Current Algebras and QP Manifolds

Generalized current algebras introduced by Alekseev and Strobl in two dimensions are reconstructed by a graded manifold and a graded Poisson brackets. We generalize their current algebras to higher dimensions. QP manifolds provide the unified structures of current algebras in any dimension. Current algebras give rise to structures of Leibniz/Loday algebroids, which are characterized by QP structures. Especially, in three dimensions, a current algebra has a structure of a Lie algebroid up to homotopy introduced by Uchino and one of the authors which has a bracket of a generalization of the Courant-Dorfman bracket. Anomaly cancellation conditions are reinterpreted as generalizations of the Dirac structure.

Donaldson Invariants and Their Generalizations from AKSZ Topological Field Theories

Observable structures of a topological field theory of AKSZ type are analyzed. From a double (or multiple) complex structure of observable algebras, new topological invariants are constructed. Especially, Donaldson polynomial invariants and their generalizations are constructed from a topological field theory of AKSZ type in 4 dimensions recently proposed.

QP-Structures of Degree 3 and 4D Topological Field Theory

A A BV algebra and a QP-structure of degree 3 is formulated. A QP-structure of degree 3 gives rise to Lie algebroids up to homotopy and its algebraic and geometric structure is analyzed. A new algebroid is constructed, which derives a new topological field theory in 4 dimensions by the AKSZ construction.

An Alternative Topological Field Theory of Generalized Complex Geometry

We propose a new topological field theory on generalized complex geometry in two dimension using AKSZ formulation. Zucchini's model is $A$ model in the case that the generalized complex structuredepends on only a symplectic structure. Our new model is $B$ model in the case that the generalized complex structure depends on only a complex structure.

Topological Membranes with 3-Form H Flux on Generalized Geometries

We construct topological string and topological membrane actions with a nontrivial 3-form flux H in arbitrary dimensions. These models realize Bianchi identities with a nontrivial H flux as consistency conditions. Especially, we discuss the models with a generalized SU(3) structure, a generalized $G_2$ structure and a generalized $Spin(7)$ structure. These models are constructed from the AKSZ formulation of Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism.

Deformation of Batalin-Vilkovisky Structures

A Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism is most general framework to construct consistent quantum field theories. Its mathematical structure is called {\it a Batalin-Vilkovisky structure}. First we explain rather mathematical setting of a Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. Next, we consider deformation theory of a Batalin-Vilkovisky structure. Especially, we consider deformation of topological sigma models in any dimension, which is closely related to deformation theories in mathematics, including deformation from commutative geometry to noncommutative geometry. We obtain a series of new nontrivial topological sigma models and we find these models have the Batalin-Vilkovisky structures based on a series of new algebroids.

Three Dimensional Topological Field Theory induced from Generalized Complex Structure

We construct a three-dimensional topological sigma model which is induced from a generalized complex structure on a target generalized complex manifold. This model is constructed from maps from a three-dimensional manifold $X$ to an arbitrary generalized complex manifold $M$. The theory is invariant under the diffeomorphism on the world volume and the $b$-transformation on the generalized complex structure. Moreover the model is manifestly invariant under the mirror symmetry. We derive from this model the Zucchini's two dimensional topological sigma model with a generalized complex structure as a boundary action on $\partial X$. As a special case, we obtain three dimensional realization of a WZ-Poisson manifold.

Dimensional Reduction of Nonlinear Gauge Theories

We investigate an extension of 2D nonlinear gauge theory from the Poisson sigma model based on Lie algebroid to a model with additional two-form gauge fields. Dimensional reduction of 3D nonlinear gauge theory yields an example of such a model, which provides a realization of Courant algebroid by 2D nonlinear gauge theory. We see that the reduction of the base structure generically results in a modification of the target (algebroid) structure.
