A non-singular early-time viscous cosmological model

In this paper, we study the thermodynamical and mathematical consistencies for a non-singular early-time viscous cosmological model known as soft-Big Bang, which was previously found in [N. Cruz, E. González, and J. Jovel, Phys. Rev. D \textbf{105}, 024047 (2022)]. This model represents a flat homogeneous and isotropic universe filled with a dissipative radiation fluid and a cosmological constant $Λ$, which is small but not negligible, in the framework of Eckart's theory. In particular, we discuss the capability of the solution in the fulfillment of the three following conditions: (i) the near equilibrium condition, which is assumed in Eckart's theory of non-perfect fluids, (ii) the mathematical stability of the solution under small perturbations, and (iii) the positiveness of the entropy production. We have found that this viscous model can describe the radiation domination era of the $Λ$CDM model and, at the same time, fulfill the three conditions mentioned by the fulfillment of a single constraint on the bulk viscous coefficient $ξ_{0}$, finding also that this non-singular model has a positive energy density in the infinity past which is infinity hotter with a constant entropy.

Accretion of Self-interacting Scalar Field Dark Matter Onto a Reissner-Nordström Black Hole

Self-interacting scalar field dark matter can be seen as an extension of the free case known as Fuzzy dark matter. The interactive case is capable of reproducing the positive features of the free case at both astrophysical and cosmological scales. On the other hand, current imaging black holes (BHs) observations provided by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration cannot rule out the possibility that BHs can carry some amount of charge. Motivated by these aspects, and by the possibility of detecting dark matter through its gravitational imprints on BH observations, in this paper, we extend previous studies of accretion of self-interacting scalar field dark matter to the charged BH case. Our analysis is based on the assumption on spherically symmetric flow and employs a test fluid approximation. All analytical expressions are derived from the ground up in Schwarzschild coordinates. Concretely, we implement analytical and numerical approaches to investigate the impact of the charge on the energy flux. From this analysis, we notice that the mass accretion rate efficiency is reduced up to $\sim 20\%$ for the maximum allowed charge. Additionally, considering the mass accretion rate of M87$^{\star}$ inferred from Polarization data of the EHT, we infer the conservative bound $ λ_4 > (1.49-10.2)( m / 1 \rm {eV} )^4$ based on the simple criterion that ensures the mass accretion rate caused by DM remains subdominant compared to the baryonic component.

A new Parametrization for Bulk Viscosity Cosmology as Extension of the $Λ$CDM Model

Bulk viscosity in cold dark matter is an appealing feature that introduces distinctive phenomenological effects in the cosmological setting as compared to the $Λ$CDM model. Under this view, we propose a general parametrization of the bulk viscosity of the form $ξ\sim H^{1-2s} ρ_{m}^{s}$, that covers intriguingly some well-known cases in the Eckart's theory. Some advantages of this novel parametrization are: first, it allows to write the resulting equations of cosmological evolution in the form of an autonomous system for any value of $s$, so a general treatment of the fixed points and stability can be done, and second, the bulk viscosity effect is consistently handled so that it naturally turns off when matter density vanishes. As a main result we find, based on detailed dynamical system analysis, one-parameter family of de-Sitter-like asymptotic solutions with non-vanishing bulk viscosity coefficient during different cosmological periods. Numerical computations are performed jointly along with analytical phase space analysis in order to assess more quantitatively the bulk viscosity effect on the cosmological background evolution. Finally, as a first contact with observation we derive constraints on the free parameters of some bulk viscosity models with specific $s$-exponents from Supernovae Ia and observations of the Hubble parameter, by performing a Bayesian statistical analysis thought the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method.

Spherical particle orbits around a rotating black hole in massive gravity

In this paper, we present a rotating de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley black hole with a positive cosmological constant in massive gravity, achieved by applying a modified Newman-Janis algorithm. The black hole exhibits stable orbits of constant radii, prompting a numerical study on the behavior of the solutions to a nonic equation governing the radii of planar orbits around the black hole. Additionally, we investigate the stability of orbits near the event horizon and provide a comprehensive analytical examination of the solutions to the angular equations of motion. This is followed by simulating some spherical particle orbits around the black hole.

Exploring Models of Running Vacuum Energy with Viscous Dark Matter from a Dynamical System Perspective

Running vacuum models and viscous dark matter scenarios beyond perfect fluid idealization are two appealing theoretical strategies that have been separately studied as alternatives to solve some problems rooted in the $Λ$CDM cosmological model. In this paper, we combine these two notions in a single cosmological setting and investigate their cosmological implications, paying particular attention in the interplay between these two constituents in different cosmological periods. Specifically, we consider a well-studied running vacuum model inspired by renormalization group, and a recently proposed general parameterization for the bulk viscosity $ξ$. By employing dynamical system analysis, we explore the physical aspects of the new phase space that emerges from the combined models and derive stability conditions that ensure complete cosmological dynamics. We identify four distinct classes of models and find that the critical points of the phase space are non-trivially renewed compared to the single scenarios. We then proceed, in a joint and complementary way to the dynamical system analysis, with a detailed numerical exploration to quantify the impact of both the running parameter and the bulk viscosity coefficient on the cosmological evolution. Thus, for some values of the model parameters, numerical solutions show qualitative differences from the $Λ$CDM model, which is phenomenologically appealing in light of cosmological observations.

The effects of running gravitational coupling on three dimensional black holes

In the present work, we investigate the consequences of running gravitational coupling on the properties of the three-dimensional BTZ black hole. We take as starting point the functional form of gravitational coupling obtained in the context of asymptotic safe gravity theory. By using the standard scale setting relation where $k\sim ξ/r^n$, we compute the solution of the Einstein field equations. We get and analyze the horizon and the thermodynamic properties of this new class of black hole solutions. The impact of the scale--dependent parameter $ξ$ on the cosmological "constant" and metric functions are briefly discussed. We find that the null energy condition is also violated in this setup when scale-dependent gravity and Newton's coupling (coming from the asymptotic safety scenario of gravity) are simultaneously taken into account.

Study of a viscous $Λ$WDM model: Near equilibrium condition, entropy production, and cosmological constraints

Extensions to a $Λ$DM model have been explored to face current tensions that occur within its framework, which encompasses broadening the nature of the dark matter (DM) component to include warmness and a non-perfect fluid description. In this paper, we investigated the late-time cosmological evolution of an exact solution recently found in [N. Cruz, E. González, and J. Jovel, Phys. Rev. D \textbf{105}, 024047 (2022)], which describe a viscous warm $Λ$DM model ($Λ$WDM) with a DM component that obeys a polytropic equation of state (EoS), which experience dissipative effects with a bulk viscosity proportional to its energy density, with proportionality constant $ξ_{0}$. This solution has the particularity of having a very similar behavior to the $Λ$CDM model for small values of $ξ_{0}$, evolving also to a de Sitter type expansion in the very far future. We explore firstly the thermodynamic consistences of this solution in the framework of the Eckart's theory of non-perfect fluids, focusing on the fulfillment of the two following conditions: (i) the near equilibrium condition and (ii) the positiveness of the entropy production. We explore the range of parameters of the model that allow to fulfilling these two conditions at the same time, finding that a viscous WDM component is compatible with both ones, being in this sense, a viable model from the thermodynamic point of view. Besides, we constraint the free parameters of the model with the observational data coming form supernovae Ia (SNe Ia) and the observational Hubble parameter data (OHD).(Abridged)

Singularities and Soft-Big Bang in a viscous $Λ$CDM model

In this paper we explore the different types of singularities that arise in the $Λ$CDM model when dissipative processes are considered, in the framework of the Eckart's theory. In particular, we study the late-time behavior of $Λ$CDM model with viscous cold dark matter (CDM) and an early-time viscous radiation domination era with cosmological constant (CC). The fluids are described by the barotropic equation of state (EoS) $p=(γ-1)ρ$, where $p$ is the equilibrium pressure of the fluid, $ρ$ their energy density, and $γ$ is the barotropic index. We explore two particular cases for the bulk viscosity $ξ$, a constant bulk viscosity $ξ=ξ_{0}$, and a bulk viscosity proportional to the energy density of the fluid $ξ=ξ_{0}ρ$. Due to some previous investigations that have explored to describe the behavior of the universe with a negative CC, we extend our analysis to this case. We found that future singularities like Big-Rip are allowed but without having a phantom EoS associated to the DE fluid. Big-Crunch singularities also appears when a negative CC is present, but also de Sitter and even Big-Rip types are allowed due to the negative pressure of the viscosity, which opens the possibility of an accelerated expansion in AdS cosmologies. We also discuss a very particular solution without Big Bang singularity that arises in the early-time radiation dominant era of our model known as Soft-Big Bang.

Unified dissipative dark matter model in a non linear Israel-Stewart theory

In this paper we study the Statefinder and $Om(x)$ diagnoses of an exact solution of a unified dissipative dark matter model in the framework the Israel-Stewart theory and its non linear extension, considering the condition of positive entropy production. The implementation of two diagnoses in the pair of solutions reveal that both solutions can emulate the $Λ$CDM model at some stage of the cosmic evolution and behave as quintessence dark energy. The stability of both solutions is discussed from the point of view of the Liapunov's method, showing that they are asymptotic stable. Additionally we show that the solutions are also stable under small perturbations. A simple analysis of the solutions with the use of observational data suggests that the non linear regime could lead to a inconsistencies-free scenario, i.e., in agreement with the bounds obtained from the perturbative analysis for the velocity of bulk viscous perturbations.

ISCOs and OSCOs in the presence of a positive cosmological constant in massive gravity

We study the impact of a non-vanishing (positive) cosmological constant on the innermost and outermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs and OSCOs, respectively) within massive gravity in four dimensions. The gravitational field generated by a point-like object within this theory is known, generalizing the usual Schwarzschild--de Sitter geometry of General Relativity. In the non-relativistic limit, the gravitational potential differs by the one corresponding to the Schwarzschild--de Sitter geometry by a term that is linear in the radial coordinate with some prefactor $γ$, which is the only free parameter. Starting from the geodesic equations for massive test particles and the corresponding effective potential, we obtain a polynomial of fifth order that allows us to compute the innermost and outermost stable circular orbits. Next, we numerically compute the real and positive roots of the polynomial for several different structures (from the hydrogen atom to stars and globular clusters to galaxies and galaxy clusters) considering three distinct values of the parameter $γ$, determined using physical considerations, such as galaxy rotation curves and orbital precession. Similarly to the Kottler spacetime, both ISCOs and OSCOs appear. Their astrophysical relevance as well as the comparison with the Kottler spacetime are briefly discussed.

Testing dissipative dark matter in causal thermodynamics

In this paper we study the consistency of a cosmological model representing a universe filled with a one-component dissipative dark matter fluid, in the framework of the causal Israel-Stewart theory, where a general expression arising from perturbation analysis for the relaxation time $τ$ is used. This model is described by an exact analytic solution recently found in [N. Cruz, E. González and G. Palma, Gen. Rel. Grav. \textbf{52}, 62 (2020), which depends on several model parameters as well as integration constants, allowing the use of Type Ia Supernovae and Observational Hubble data to perform an astringent observational test. The constraint regions found for the parameters of the solution allow the existence of an accelerated expansion of the universe at late times, after the domination era of the viscous pressure, which holds without the need of including a cosmological constant. Nevertheless, the fitted parameter values lead to drawbacks as a very large non-adiabatic contribution to the speed of sound, and some inconsistencies, not totally conclusive, with the description of the dissipative dark matter as a fluid, which is nevertheless a common feature of these kind of models.

Diffusion in unimodular gravity: Analytical solutions, late-time acceleration, and cosmological constraints

Unimodular gravity is an appealing approach to address the cosmological constant problem. In this scenario, the vacuum energy density of quantum fields does not gravitate and the cosmological constant appears merely as an integration constant. Recently, it has been shown that energy diffusion that may arise in quantum gravity and in theories with spontaneous collapse is compatible with this framework by virtue of its restricted diffeomorphism invariance. New studies suggest that this phenomenon could lead to higher-order equations in the context of homogeneous and isotropic Universe, affecting the well-posedness of their Cauchy initial-value problem. In this work, we show that this issue can be circumvented by assuming an equation of state that relates the energy density to the function that characterizes the diffusion. As an application, we solve the field equations analytically for an isotropic and homogeneous Universes in a barotropic model and in the mass-proportional continuous spontaneous localization (CSL) scenario, assuming that only dark matter develops energy diffusion. Different solutions possessing phase transition from decelerated to accelerated expansion are found. We use cosmological data of type Ia Supernovae and observational Hubble data to constrain the free parameters of both models. It is found that very small but nontrivial energy nonconservation is compatible with the barotropic model. However, for the CSL model, we find that the best-fit values are not compatible with previous laboratory experiments. We comment on this fact and propose future directions to explore energy diffusion in cosmology.

Constraining a causal dissipative cosmological model

In this paper a cosmological solution of polynomial type $H \approx ( t + const.)^{-1}$ for the causal thermodynamical approach of Isarel-Stewart, found in \cite{MCruz:2017, Cruz2017}, is constrained using the joint of the latest measurements of the Hubble parameter (OHD) and Type Ia Supernovae (SNIa). Since the expansion described by this solution does not present a transition from a decelerated phase to an accelerated one, both phases can be well modeled connecting both phases by requiring the continuity of the Hubble parameter at $z=z_{t}$, the accelerated-decelerated transition redshift. Our best fit constrains the main free parameters of the model to be $A_1= 1.58^{+0.08}_{-0.07}$ ($A_2=0.84^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$) for the accelerated (decelerated) phase. For both phases we obtain $q=-0.37^{+0.03}_{-0.03}$ ($0.19^{+0.03}_{-0.03}$) and $ω_{eff} = -0.58^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$ ($-0.21^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$) for the deceleration parameter and the effective equation of state, respectively. Comparing our model and LCDM statistically through the Akaike information criterion and the Bayesian information criterion we obtain that the LCDM model is preferred by the OHD+SNIa data. Finally, it is shown that the constrained parameters values satisfy the criterion for a consistent fluid description of a dissipative dark matter component, but with a high value of the speed of sound within the fluid, which is a drawback for a consistent description of the structure formation. We briefly discuss the possibilities to overcome this problem with a non-linear generalization of the causal linear thermodynamics of bulk viscosity and also with the inclusion of some form of dark energy.

Exact analytical solution for an Israel-Stewart Cosmology

In this article we report a novel analytic solution for a cosmological model with a matter content described by a one component dissipative fluid, in the framework of the causal Israel-Stewart theory. Some physically well motivated analytical relations for the bulk viscous coefficient, the relaxation time and a bariotropic equation of state are postulated. We study within the parameter space, which label the solution, a suited region compatible with an accelerated expansion of the universe for late times, as well as stability properties of the solution at the critical parameter values $ γ= 1$ and for $ s = 1/2 $. We study as well the consequences that arise from the positiveness of the entropy production along the time evolution. In general, the accelerated expansion at late times is only possible when $ε\geq 1/18$, which implies a very large non-adiabatic contribution the speed of sound.

Linking little rip cosmologies with regular early universes

Cosmological fluids with a Generalized Equation of State (GEoS) are here considered, whose corresponding EoS parameter $ω$ describes a fluid with phantom behavior, namely $ω<-1$, but leading to universes free of singularities at any past or future, finite time. Thus avoiding, in particular, the Big Bang and the Big Rip singularities, the last one considered to be typical in phantom fluid models. More specifically, such GEoS fluid cosmologies lead to regular Little Rip universes. A remarkable new property of these solutions is proven here, namely that they avoid the initial singularity at early times; therefore, they are able to describe emergent universes. Solutions of this kind had been studied previously, but only either as late time or as early time solutions; never as solutions covering both epochs simultaneously. Appropriate conditions are proposed here that relate the Little Rip cosmologies with the initial regular universe, for the future and past regimes, respectively. This is done by taking as starting point the conditions under which a given scale factor corresponds to a Little Rip universe.

Analysing dissipative effects in the $Λ$CDM model

In the present paper, the effects of viscous dark matter are analysed within the $Λ$CDM model. Here we consider bulk viscosity through the Israel-Stewart theory approach, leading to an effective pressure term in the continuity equation that accomplishes for the dissipative effects of the dark matter fluid. Then, the corresponding equation for viscosity is solved and a general equation for the Hubble parameter is obtained with the presence of a cosmological constant. The existence of de Sitter solutions is discussed, where a wider range of solutions is found in comparison to the $Λ$CDM model. Also the conditions for the near thermodynamical equilibrium of the fluid is analysed. Finally, a qualitative analysis provides some constraints on the model by using Supernovae Ia data which reveals the possible importance of causal thermodynamics in cosmology.

The Hubble IR cutoff in holographic ellipsoidal cosmologies

It is well known that for spatially flat FRW cosmologies, the holographic dark energy disfavours the Hubble parameter as a candidate for the IR cutoff. For overcoming this problem, we explore the use of this cutoff in holographic ellipsoidal cosmological models, and derive the general ellipsoidal metric induced by a such holographic energy density. Despite the drawbacks that this cutoff presents in homogeneous and isotropic universes, based on this general metric, we developed a suitable ellipsoidal holographic cosmological model, filled with a dark matter and a dark energy components. At late time stages, the cosmic evolution is dominated by a holographic anisotropic dark energy with barotropic equations of state. The cosmologies expand in all directions in accelerated manner. Since the ellipsoidal cosmologies given here are not asymptotically FRW, the deviation from homogeneity and isotropy of the universe on large cosmological scales remains constant during all cosmic evolution. This feature allows studied holographic ellipsoidal cosmologies to be ruled by an equation of state $ω=p/ρ$, whose range belongs to quintessence or even phantom matter.

Accelerated and decelerated expansion in a causal dissipative cosmology

In this work we explore a new cosmological solution for an universe filled with one dissipative fluid, described by a barotropic EoS $p = ωρ$, in the framework of the full Israel-Stewart theory. The form of the bulk viscosity has been assumed of the form $ξ= ξ_{0}ρ^{1/2}$. The relaxation time is taken to be a function of the EoS, the bulk viscosity and the speed of bulk viscous perturbations, $c_{b}$. The solution presents an initial singularity, where the curvature scalar diverges as the scale factor goes to zero. Depending on the values for $ω$, $ξ_{0}$, $c_{b}$ accelerated and decelerated cosmic expansion can be obtained. In the case of accelerated expansion, the viscosity drives the effective EoS to be of quintessence type, for the single fluid with positive pressure. Nevertheless, we show that only the solution with decelerated expansion satisfies the thermodynamics conditions $dS/dt > 0$ (growth of the entropy) and $d^{2}S/dt^{2} < 0$ (convexity condition). We show that an exact stiff matter EoS is not allowed in the framework of the full causal thermodynamic approach; and in the case of a EoS very close to the stiff matter regime, we found that dissipative effects becomes negligible so the entropy remains constant. Finally, we show numerically that the solution is stable under small perturbations.
