Recent QCD results in nu-N Deep Inelastic Scattering at CCFR/NuTeV

We present recent QCD results in nu-N scattering at the Fermilab CCFR/NuTeV experiments. We present the latest Next-to-Next-Leading order strong coupling constant, alpha-s, extracted from Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rule. The value of alpha-s from this measurement, at the mass of Z boson, is alpha-s^{NNLO}(M_Z**2)=0.114^{+0.009}_{-0.012}. We also present a preliminary result of the CCFR F_2 at large-x. This measurement of F_2 is compared to other experiments and various models that provide nuclear effects. We discuss the previous strange sea quark measurement from the CCFR experiment and the prospects for improvements of the measurement in the NuTeV experiment.

Measurements of the longitudinal structure function and |V_cs| in the CCFR experiment

Measurements of charged current neutrino and anti-neutrino nucleon interactions in the CCFR detector are used to extract the structure functions, F_2, xF_3(nu), xF_3(nubar) and R(longitudinal) in the kinematic region 0.01<x<0.6 and 1<Q^2<300 GeV^2. The new measurements of R in the x<0.1 region provide a constraint on the level of the gluon distribution. The x and Q^2 dependence of R is compared with a QCD based fit to previous data. The CKM matrix element |V_cs| is extracted from a combined analysis of xF_3 and dimuon data.

A High Statistics Search for muon-neutrino(anti-muon-neutrino) ---> electron-neutrino(anti-electron-neutrino) Oscillations in the Small Mixing Angle Regime

Limits on $ν_μ(\overlineν_μ) \to ν_e (\overlineν_e)$ oscillations based on a statistical separation of $ν_e N$ charged current interactions in the CCFR detector at Fermilab are presented. $ν_e$ interactions are identified by the difference in the longitudinal shower energy deposition pattern of $ν_e N \rightarrow eX$ versus $ν_μN \to ν_μX$ interactions. Neutrino energies range from 30 to 600 GeV with a mean of 140 GeV, and $ν_μ$ flight lengths vary from 0.9 km to 1.4 km. The lowest 90% confidence upper limit in $sin^2 2α$ of $1.1 \times 10^{-3}$ is obtained at $Δm^2 \sim 300 eV^2$. For $sin^2 2α= 1$, $Δm^2 > 1.6 eV^2$ is excluded, and for $Δm^2 \gg 1000 eV^2$, $sin^2 2α> 1.8 \times 10^{-3}$ is excluded. This result is the most stringent limit to date for $Δm^2 > 25 eV^2$ and it excludes the high $Δm^2$ oscillation region favoured by the LSND experiment. The $ν_μ$-to-$ν_e$ cross-section ratio was measured as a test of $ν_μ(\barν_μ) \leftrightarrow ν_e (\barν_e)$ universality to be $1.026 \pm 0.055$.

A Measurement of $α_s(M_Z^2)$ from the Gross Llewellyn Smith Sum Rule

The Gross Llewellyn Smith sum rule has been measured at different values of four-momentum transfer squared ($Q^{2}$) by combining the precise CCFR neutrino data with data from other deep-inelastic scattering experiments at lower values of $Q^{2}$. A comparison with the ${\cal O}(α^{3}_{s})$ predictions of perturbative QCD yields a determination of $α_{s}$ and its dependence on $Q^{2}$ in the range $1\,GeV^2 < Q^{2} < 20 \,GeV^{2}$. Low \qsq\ tests have greater sensitivity to \alfs(\mztwo) than high \qsq\ tests, since at low $Q^2$, $α_s$ is large and changing rapidly.
