GIAT: A Geologically-Informed Attention Transformer for Lithology Identification

Accurate lithology identification from well logs is crucial for subsurface resource evaluation. Although Transformer-based models excel at sequence modeling, their "black-box" nature and lack of geological guidance limit their performance and trustworthiness. To overcome these limitations, this letter proposes the Geologically-Informed Attention Transformer (GIAT), a novel framework that deeply fuses data-driven geological priors with the Transformer's attention mechanism. The core of GIAT is a new attention-biasing mechanism. We repurpose Category-Wise Sequence Correlation (CSC) filters to generate a geologically-informed relational matrix, which is injected into the self-attention calculation to explicitly guide the model toward geologically coherent patterns. On two challenging datasets, GIAT achieves state-of-the-art performance with an accuracy of up to 95.4%, significantly outperforming existing models. More importantly, GIAT demonstrates exceptional interpretation faithfulness under input perturbations and generates geologically coherent predictions. Our work presents a new paradigm for building more accurate, reliable, and interpretable deep learning models for geoscience applications.

Echoes of Norms: Investigating Counterspeech Bots' Influence on Bystanders in Online Communities

Counterspeech offers a non-repressive approach to moderate hate speech in online communities. Research has examined how counterspeech chatbots restrain hate speakers and support targets, but their impact on bystanders remains unclear. Therefore, we developed a counterspeech strategy framework and built \textit{Civilbot} for a mixed-method within-subjects study. Bystanders generally viewed Civilbot as credible and normative, though its shallow reasoning limited persuasiveness. Its behavioural effects were subtle: when performing well, it could guide participation or act as a stand-in; when performing poorly, it could discourage bystanders or motivate them to step in. Strategy proved critical: cognitive strategies that appeal to reason, especially when paired with a positive tone, were relatively effective, while mismatch of contexts and strategies could weaken impact. Based on these findings, we offer design insights for mobilizing bystanders and shaping online discourse, highlighting when to intervene and how to do so through reasoning-driven and context-aware strategies.

Adaptive Human-Agent Teaming: A Review of Empirical Studies from the Process Dynamics Perspective

The rapid advancement of AI, including Large Language Models, has propelled autonomous agents forward, accelerating the human-agent teaming (HAT) paradigm to leverage complementary strengths. However, HAT research remains fragmented, often focusing on isolated team development phases or specific challenges like trust calibration while overlooking the real-world need for adaptability. Addressing these gaps, a process dynamics perspective is adopted to systematically review HAT using the T$^4$ framework: Team Formation, Task and Role Development, Team Development, and Team Improvement. Each phase is examined in terms of its goals, actions, and evaluation metrics, emphasizing the co-evolution of task and team dynamics. Special focus is given to the second and third phases, highlighting key factors such as team roles, shared mental model, and backup behaviors. This holistic perspective identifies future research directions for advancing long-term adaptive HAT.

CrowdTransfer: Enabling Crowd Knowledge Transfer in AIoT Community

Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is an emerging frontier based on the deep fusion of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. Although advanced deep learning techniques enhance the efficient data processing and intelligent analysis of complex IoT data, they still suffer from notable challenges when deployed to practical AIoT applications, such as constrained resources, and diverse task requirements. Knowledge transfer is an effective method to enhance learning performance by avoiding the exorbitant costs associated with data recollection and model retraining. Notably, although there are already some valuable and impressive surveys on transfer learning, these surveys introduce approaches in a relatively isolated way and lack the recent advances of various knowledge transfer techniques for AIoT field. This survey endeavors to introduce a new concept of knowledge transfer, referred to as Crowd Knowledge Transfer (CrowdTransfer), which aims to transfer prior knowledge learned from a crowd of agents to reduce the training cost and as well as improve the performance of the model in real-world complicated scenarios. Particularly, we present four transfer modes from the perspective of crowd intelligence, including derivation, sharing, evolution and fusion modes. Building upon conventional transfer learning methods, we further delve into advanced crowd knowledge transfer models from three perspectives for various AIoT applications. Furthermore, we explore some applications of AIoT areas, such as human activity recognition, urban computing, multi-robot system, and smart factory. Finally, we discuss the open issues and outline future research directions of knowledge transfer in AIoT community.

AskMe: Joint Individual-level and Community-level Behavior Interaction for Question Recommendation

Questions in Community Question Answering (CQA) sites are recommended to users, mainly based on users' interest extracted from questions that users have answered or have asked. However, there is a general phenomenon that users answer fewer questions while pay more attention to follow questions and vote answers. This can impact the performance when recommending questions to users (for obtaining their answers) by using their historical answering behaviors on existing studies. To address the data sparsity issue, we propose AskMe, which aims to leverage the rich, hybrid behavior interactions in CQA to improve the question recommendation performance. On the one hand, we model the rich correlations between the users' diverse behaviors (e.g., answer, follow, vote) to obtain the individual-level behavior interaction. On the other hand, we model the sophisticated behavioral associations between similar users to obtain the community-level behavior interaction. Finally, we propose the way of element-level fusion to mix these two kinds of interactions together to predict the ranking scores. A dataset collected from Zhihu (1126 users, 219434 questions) is utilized to evaluate the performance of the proposed model, and the experimental results show that our model has gained the best performance compared to baseline methods, especially when the historical answering behaviors data is scarce.

Mechanisms underlying the response of mouse cortical networks to optogenetic manipulation

GABAergic interneurons can be subdivided into three subclasses: parvalbumin positive (PV), somatostatin positive (SOM) and serotonin positive neurons. With principal cells (PCs) they form complex networks. We examine PCs and PV responses in mouse anterior lateral motor cortex (ALM) and barrel cortex (S1) upon PV photostimulation in vivo. In layer 5, the PV response is paradoxical: photoexcitation reduces their activity. This is not the case in ALM layer 2/3. We combine analytical calculations and numerical simulations to investigate how these results constrain the architecture. Two-population models cannot account for the results. Networks with three inhibitory populations and V1-like architecture account for the data in ALM layer 2/3. Our data in layer 5 can be accounted for if SOM neurons receive inputs only from PCs and PV neurons. In both four-population models, the paradoxical effect implies not too strong recurrent excitation. It is not evidence for stabilization by inhibition.
