Matched pair analysis of the Vlasov plasma

We present the Hamiltonian (Lie-Poisson) analysis of the Vlasov plasma, and the dynamics of its kinetic moments, from the matched pair decomposition point of view. We express these (Lie-Poisson) systems as couplings of \textit{mutually interacting} (Lie-Poisson) subdynamics. The mutual interaction is beyond the well-known semi-direct product theory. Accordingly, as the geometric framework of the present discussion, we address the \textit{matched pair Lie-Poisson} formulation allowing mutual interactions. Moreover, both for the kinetic moments and the Vlasov plasma cases, we observe that one of the constitutive subdynamics is the compressible isentropic fluid flow, and the other is the dynamics of the kinetic moments of order $\geq 2$. In this regard, the algebraic/geometric (matched pair) decomposition that we offer, is in perfect harmony with the physical intuition. To complete the discussion, we present a momentum formulation of the Vlasov plasma, along with its matched pair decomposition.

On Geometrical Couplings of Dissipation and Curl Forces

In this paper, we present several geometric ways to incorporate gyroscopic and dissipative forces to curl forces. We first present a proper metriplectic geometry. Then, using the Herglotz principle and generalized Euler-Lagrange equation, we propose a formulation of dissipative radial curl forces. Finally, we extend our result to azimuthal curl force using Galley's method, which leads to a natural formulation for Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics of generic non-conservative systems.

On Extensions, Lie-Poisson Systems, and Dissipations

On the dual space of \textit{extended structure}, equations governing the collective motion of two mutually interacting Lie-Poisson systems are derived. By including a twisted 2-cocycle term, this novel construction is providing the most general realization of (de)coupling of Lie-Poisson systems. A double cross sum (matched pair) of 2-cocycle extensions are constructed. The conditions are determined for this double cross sum to be a 2-cocycle extension by itself. On the dual spaces, Lie-Poisson equations are computed. We complement the discussion by presenting a double cross sum of some symmetric brackets, such as double bracket, Cartan-Killing bracket, Casimir dissipation bracket, and Hamilton dissipation bracket. Accordingly, the collective motion of two mutually interacting irreversible dynamics, as well as mutually interacting metriplectic flows, are obtained. The theoretical results are illustrated in three examples. As an infinite-dimensional physical model, decompositions of the BBGKY hierarchy are presented. As finite-dimensional examples, the coupling of two Heisenberg algebras and coupling of two copies of $3D$ dynamics are studied.

Geometry and solutions of an epidemic SIS model permitting fluctuations and quantization

Some recent works reveal that there are models of differential equations for the mean and variance of infected individuals that reproduce the SIS epidemic model at some point. This stochastic SIS epidemic model can be interpreted as a Hamiltonian system, therefore we wondered if it could be geometrically handled through the theory of Lie--Hamilton systems, and this happened to be the case. The primordial result is that we are able to obtain a general solution for the stochastic/ SIS-epidemic model (with fluctuations) in form of a nonlinear superposition rule that includes particular stochastic solutions and certain constants to be related to initial conditions of the contagion process. The choice of these initial conditions will be crucial to display the expected behavior of the curve of infections during the epidemic. We shall limit these constants to nonsingular regimes and display graphics of the behavior of the solutions. As one could expect, the increase of infected individuals follows a sigmoid-like curve. Lie--Hamiltonian systems admit a quantum deformation, so does the stochastic SIS-epidemic model. We present this generalization as well. If one wants to study the evolution of an SIS epidemic under the influence of a constant heat source (like centrally heated buildings), one can make use of quantum stochastic differential equations coming from the so-called quantum deformation.

Second Order Lagrangian Dynamics On Double Cross Product Groups

We observe that the iterated tangent group of a Lie group may be realized as a double cross product of the 2nd order tangent group, with the Lie algebra of the base Lie group. Based on this observation, we derive the 2nd order Euler-Lagrange equations on the 2nd order tangent group from the 1st order Euler-Lagrange equations on the iterated tangent group. We also present in detail the 2nd order Lagrangian dynamics on the 2nd order tangent group of a double cross product group.

The globalization problem of the Hamilton-DeDonder-Weyl equations on a local $k$-symplectic framework

In this paper we aim at addressing the globalization problem of Hamilton-DeDonder-Weyl equations on a local $k$-symplectic framework and we introduce the notion of {\it locally conformal $k$-symplectic (l.c.k-s.) manifolds}. This formalism describes the dynamical properties of physical systems that locally behave like multi-Hamiltonian systems. Here, we describe the local Hamiltonian properties of such systems, but we also provide a global outlook by introducing the global Lee one-form approach. In particular, the dynamics will be depicted with the aid of the Hamilton--Jacobi equation, which is specifically proposed in a l.c.k-s manifold.

Hamilton-Jacobi Formalism on Locally Conformally Symplectic Manifolds

In this article we provide a Hamilton-Jacobi formalism in locally conformally symplectic manifolds. Our interest in the Hamilton-Jacobi theory comes from the suitability of this theory as an integration method for dynamical systems, whilst our interest in the locally conformal character will account for physical theories described by Hamiltonians defined on well-behaved line bundles, whose dynamic takes place in open subsets of the general manifold. We present a local l.c.s. Hamilton-Jacobi in subsets of the general manifold, and then provide a global view by using the Lichnerowicz-deRham differential. We show a comparison between the global and local description of a l.c.s. Hamilton--Jacobi theory, and how actually the local behavior can be glued to retrieve the global behavior of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory.

On the quest for generalized Hamiltonian descriptions of $3D$-flows generated by curl of a vector potential

We study Hamiltonian analysis of three-dimensional advection flow $\mathbf{\dot{x}}=\mathbf{v}({\bf x})$ of incompressible nature $\nabla \cdot {\bf v} ={\bf 0}$ assuming that dynamics is generated by the curl of a vector potential $\mathbf{v} = \nabla \times \mathbf{A}$. More concretely, we elaborate Nambu-Hamiltonian and bi-Hamiltonian characters of such systems under the light of vanishing or non-vanishing of the quantity $\mathbf{A} \cdot \nabla \times \mathbf{A}$. We present an example (satisfying $\mathbf{A} \cdot \nabla \times \mathbf{A} \neq 0$) which can be written as in the form of Nambu-Hamiltonian and bi-Hamiltonian formulations. We present another example (satisfying $\mathbf{A} \cdot \nabla \times \mathbf{A} = 0$) which we cannot able to write it in the form of a Nambu-Hamiltonian or bi-Hamiltonian system. On the hand, this second example can be manifested in terms of Hamiltonian one-form and yields generalized or vector Hamiltonian equations $\dot{x}_i = - ε_{ijk}{\partial η_j}/{\partial x_k}$.

Matched pairs of discrete dynamical systems

Matched pairs of Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids are studied. Discrete Euler-Lagrange equations are written for the matched pairs of Lie groupoids. As such, a geometric framework to analyse a discrete system by decomposing it into two mutually interacting subsystems is established. Two examples are provided to illustrate this strategy; the discrete dynamics on the trivial groupoid, and the discrete dynamics on the special linear group.

De Donder Form for Second Order Gravity

We show that the De Donder form for second order gravity, defined in terms of Ostrogradski's version of the Legendre transformation applied to all independent variables, is globally defined by its local coordinate descriptions. It is a natural differential operator applied to the diffeomorphism invariant Lagrangian of the theory.

Reduction of a Hamilton-Jacobi equation for nonholonomic systems

Nonholonomic mechanical systems have been attracting more interest in recent years because of their rich geometric properties and their applications in Engineering. In all generality, we discuss the reduction of a Hamilton-Jacobi theory for systems subject to nonholonomic constraints and that are invariant under the action of a group of symmetries. We consider nonholonomic systems subject to linear or nonlinear constraints, with different positioning with respect to the symmetries. We describe the reduction procedure first, to later reconstruct solutions in the unreduced picture, by starting from a reduced Hamilton-Jacobi equation. Examples can be depicted in a wide range of scenarios: from free particles with linear constraints, to vehicle motion.

On Time-dependent Hamiltonian Realizations of Planar and Nonplanar Systems

In this paper, we elucidate the key role played by the cosymplectic geometry in the theory of time dependent Hamiltonian systems. In particular, we generalize the cosymplectic structures to time-dependent Nambu-Poisson Hamiltonian systems and corresponding Jacobi's last multiplier for 3D systems. We illustrate our constructions with various examples.

On Geometry of Schmidt Legendre Transformation

A geometrization of Schmidt-Legendre transformation of the second order Lagrangians is proposed by building a proper Tulczyjew's triplet. The symplectic relation between Ostrogradsky-Legendre and Schmidt-Legendre transformations is obtained. Several examples are presented.

We study the Hamiltonian formalisms of the second order degenerate Clèment and Sarıoğlu-Tekin Lagrangians. The Dirac-Bergmann constraint algorithm is employed while arriving at the total Hamiltonian functions and the Hamilton's equations on the associated momemtum phase spaces whereas the Gotay-Nester-Hinds algorithm is run while investigating the Skinner-Rusk unified formalism on the proper Whitney bundles.

Hamiltonian Coupling of Electromagnetic Field and Matter

Reversible part of evolution equations of physical systems is often generated by a Poisson bracket. We discuss geometric means of construction of Poisson brackets and their mutual coupling (direct, semidirect and matched-pair products) as well as projections of Poisson brackets to less detailed Poisson brackets. This way the Hamiltonian coupling between transport of mixtures and electrodynamics is elucidated.

Lagrangian Dynamics on Matched Pairs

Given a matched pair of Lie groups, we show that the tangent bundle of the matched pair group is isomorphic to the matched pair of the tangent groups. We thus obtain the Euler-Lagrange equations on the trivialized matched pair of tangent groups, as well as the Euler-Poincaré equations on the matched pair of Lie algebras. We show explicitly how these equations cover those of the semi-direct product theory. In particular, we study the trivialized, and the reduced Lagrangian dynamics on the group $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$.

Hamiltonian dynamics on matched pairs

It is shown that the cotangent bundle of a matched pair Lie group is itself a matched pair Lie group. The trivialization of the cotangent bundle of a matched pair Lie group are presented. On the trivialized space, the canonical symplectic two-form and canonical Poisson bracket are explicitly written. Various symplectic and Poisson reductions are perfomed. The Lie-Poisson bracket is derived. As an example, Lie-Poisson equations on $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})^\ast$ are obtained.
