Electrically Tunable Dicke Effect in Double-Ring Resonator

The Dicke effect is examined in an all-optical system of an optical waveguide side coupled to two interacting ring resonators in a liquid crytal environment. The system is shown to exhibit all the signatures of the Dicke effect under an active and reversible control by an applied voltage.

Quantum correlated light pulses from sequential superradiance of a condensate

We discover an inherent mechanism for entanglement swap associated with sequential superradiance from an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. Based on careful examinations with both analytical and numerical approaches, we conclude that as a result of the swap mechanism, Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR)-type quantum correlations can be detected among the scattered light pulses.

Photonic Band Gap in the Triangular Lattice of BEC vortices

We investigate the photonic bands of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate with a triangular vortex lattice. Index contrast between the vortex cores and the bulk of the condensate is achieved through the enhancement of the index via atomic coherence. Frequency dependent dielectric function is used in the calculations of the bands, resulting in photonic band gap widths of a few MHz.

Indistinguishable Photons from a Single Molecule

We report the results of coincidence counting experiments at the output of a Michelson interferometer using the zero-phonon-line emission of a single molecule at $1.4 K$. Under continuous wave excitation, we observe the absence of coincidence counts as an indication of two-photon interference. This corresponds to the observation of Hong-Ou-Mandel correlations and proves the suitability of the zero-phonon-line emission of single molecules for applications in linear optics quantum computation.

Photonic band gap via quantum coherence in vortex lattices of Bose gases

We investigate the optical response of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate with a vortex lattice. We find that it is possible for the vortex lattice to act as a photonic crystal and create photonic band gaps, by enhancing the refractive index of the condensate via a quantum coherent scheme. If high enough index contrast between the vortex core and the atomic sample is achieved, a photonic band gap arises depending on the healing length and the lattice spacing. A wide range of experimentally accessible parameters are examined and band gaps in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum are found. We also show how directional band gaps can be used to directly measure the rotation frequency of the condensate.

On the single mode approximation in spinor-1 atomic condensate

We investigate the validity conditions of the single mode approximation (SMA) in spinor-1 atomic condensate when effects due to residual magnetic fields are negligible. For atomic interactions of the ferromagnetic type, the SMA is shown to be exact, with a mode function different from what is commonly used. However, the quantitative deviation is small under current experimental conditions (for $^{87}$Rb atoms). For anti-ferromagnetic interactions, we find that the SMA becomes invalid in general. The differences among the mean field mode functions for the three spin components are shown to depend strongly on the system magnetization. Our results can be important for studies of beyond mean field quantum correlations, such as fragmentation, spin squeezing, and multi-partite entanglement.
