Study of the itinerant electron magnetism of Fe-based superconductors by the proximity effect

We used the proximity effect as a tool to achieve an ideal (barrier - free) NS boundary for quantitative evaluation of transport phenomena that accompany converting dissipative current into supercurrent in NS systems with unconventional superconductors, single - crystal chalcogenide FeSe and granulated pnictide LaO(F)FeAs. Using features (limitations) of Andreev reflection in the NS systems with dispersion of the electron spin subbands, we revealed direct evidence for spin - polarized nature of transport and the absence of residual magnetization in iron - based superconductors in the normal state: In heterocontacts with single - crystal FeSe and granular LaO(F)FeAs, we detected a spin-dependent contribution to the efficiency of the Andreev reflection associated with the spin accumulation at the NS boundary, and a hysteresis of conductivity of FeSe in the ground state in low external magnetic fields. Based on our findings, we conclude that in iron-based superconductors, the itinerant electron magnetism is predominant, magnetism of iron atoms being localized.

Conductance of non-ballistic point contacts in hybrid systems "normal metal/superconductor" Cu/Mo-C and Cu/LaOFFeAs

We consider the shape of the curves of "Andreev" conductance of non-ballistic point contact NS heterosystems depending on the bias voltage at the contact. The obtained shape of those curves is caused by the contribution from the mechanism of coherent scattering by impurities which doubles the scattering cross section. The behavior of generalized and differential conductance is compared for ballistic and non-ballistic transport regimes. The criteria are considered allowing one to discriminate between those regimes with the corresponding conduction curves similar in appearance. The analysis is extended to the case of non-ballistic transport in NS point contacts with exotic superconductors, molybdenum carbide Mo-C and oxypnictide La[O$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$]FeAs from a group of iron-based superconductors.

Direct Measurements of Spin-Dependent and Coherent Effects in Conductance of a Ferromagnet/Superconductor System

In the systems ferromagnet/superconductor ([Fe, Ni]/In), the temperature dependent transport has been investigated within the temperature range including superconducting transition temperature for Indium. It has been found that when Indium becomes superconducting, the system resistance acquires two positive additions. The first, numerically equal to the resistance of a ferromagnet part, of order of a spin--polarized region in length, corresponds to the manifestation of "spin accumulation" effect. The second agrees in magnitude with an interference reduction in the ferromagnet conductance over the coherence length for singlet "Andreev pairs" which is established by the exchange field in the ferromagnet. From the experimental data, the degree of current spin polarization, the coherence length in the exchange field, and the lower limit of spin--relaxation length in Fe and Ni have been estimated.

Phase-sensitive quantum effects in Andreev conductance of the SNS system of metals with macroscopic phase breaking length

The dissipative component of electron transport through the doubly connected SNS Andreev interferometer indium (S)-aluminium (N)-indium (S) has been studied. Within helium temperature range, the conductance of the individual sections of the interferometer exhibits phase-sensitive oscillations of quantum-interference nature. In the non-domain (normal) state of indium narrowing adjacent to NS interface, the nonresonance oscillations have been observed, with the period inversely proportional to the area of the interferometer orifice. In the domain intermediate state of the narrowing, the magneto-temperature resistive oscillations appeared, with the period determined by the coherence length in the magnetic field equal to the critical one. The oscillating component of resonance form has been observed in the conductance of the macroscopic N-aluminium part of the system. The phase of the oscillations appears to be shifted by $π$ compared to that of nonresonance oscillations. We offer an explanation in terms of the contribution into Josephson current from the coherent quasiparticles with energies of order of the Thouless energy. The behavior of dissipative transport with temperature has been studied in a clean normal metal in the vicinity of a single point NS contact.
