Is the charged vecton boson seen by the CDF II the standard model one?

After the CDF II results, we can ask ourselves, have they observed the vector boson $W$ of the standard model? or have they discovered the effect of new physics? We show that, in electroweak models with $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\otimes U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry, it is possible to accommodate, at tree level, the value of the mass of the charged vector boson obtained by the CDF-II. A shift in the mass of the lightest neutral vector boson is also predicted in some versions of the model.

Explicit parity violation in $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\otimes U(1)_{B-L}$ models

Here we propose models with $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\otimes U(1)_{B-L}$ electroweak gauge symmetry in which parity (or charge conjugation) is broken explicitly and the interactions of left- and right-handed fermions are completely different from each other at any energy scale. In these sort of models there is no restoration of parity at high energies. However, as in all left-right symmetric models, the electroweak charged interactions of quarks and leptons appear to be only left-handed at low energies, because the right-handed interactions are suppressed by the mass of the respective charged vector bosons and/or because these interactions may be much weaker than the left-handed ones.

Dirac neutrinos in a $SU(2)$ left-right symmetric model

In a left-right symmetric model, with the scalar sector consisting of several bi-doublets and two doublets, neutrinos remain as Dirac fermions in all order in perturbation theory. Although with only two bi-doublets the neutrino masses need still a fine tuning, this is not the case when a third bi-doublet is added. One of the scalar doublet may be of the inert type since it is protected by the left-right symmetry.

Electric charge assignment in quantum field theories

In Field theories with simple or semi-simple unitary, local or global symmetries, the electric charge is related to a global one. This is the case also in electroweak gauge theories even before the spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB), where these quantities are defined in order to expand the Lagrangian respecting the conservation laws after the breaking. So, the electric charge assignment within a given multiplet is done (in units of jej) considering only global symmetries, even though in general, the electric charge operator is a linear combination of the diagonal generators of the non-Abelian symmetry plus some Abelian factor. In this work we show how this operator can be systematically constructed from any representation in the Standard Model and some of its extensions as the 3-3-1, left-right symmetric and grand unified models.

Charge quantization in a chiral bilepton gauge model

In the context of the standard model the quantization of the electric charge occurs only family by family. When we consider the three families together with massless neutrinos the electric charge is not quantized any more. Here we show that a chiral bilepton gauge model based on the gauge group SU(3)_C X SU(3)_L X U(1)_N explains the quantization of the electric charge when we take into account the three families of fermions. This result does not depend on the neutrino masses. Charge quantization occurs either the neutrinos are massless or Dirac or Majorana massive fields.
