The Volterra Integrable case. Novel analytical and numerical results

In the present paper we reconsider the integrable case of the Hamiltonian $N$-species Volterra system, as it has been introduced by Vito Volterra in 1937 and significantly enrich the results already published in the ArXiv in 2019 by two of the present authors (M. Scalia and O. Ragnisco). In fact, we present a new approach to the construction of conserved quantities and comment about the solutions of the equations of motion; we display mostly new analytical and numerical results, starting from the classical predator-prey model and arriving at the general $N$-species model

The Perlick system type I: from the algebra of symmetries to the geometry of the trajectories

In this paper, we investigate the main algebraic properties of the maximally superintegrable system known as "Perlick system type I". All possible values of the relevant parameters, $K$ and $β$, are considered. In particular, depending on the sign of the parameter $K$ entering in the metrics, the motion will take place on compact or non compact Riemannian manifolds. To perform our analysis we follow a classical variant of the so called factorization method. Accordingly, we derive the full set of constants of motion and construct their Poisson algebra. As it is expected for maximally superintegrable systems, the algebraic structure will actually shed light also on the geometric features of the trajectories, that will be depicted for different values of the initial data and of the parameters. Especially, the crucial role played by the rational parameter $β$ will be seen "in action".

Algebraic entropy for algebraic maps

We propose an extension of the concept of algebraic entropy, as introduced by Bellon and Viallet for rational maps, to algebraic maps (or correspondences) of a certain kind. The corresponding entropy is an index of the complexity of the map. The definition inherits the basic properties from the definition of entropy for rational maps. We give an example with positive entropy, as well as two examples taken from the theory of Backlund transformations.

Properties of the series solution for Painleve I

We present some observations on the asymptotic behaviour of the coefficients in the Laurent series expansion of solutions of the first Painleve equation. For the general solution, explicit recursive formulae for the Taylor expansion of the tau-function around a zero are given, which are natural extensions of analogous formulae for the elliptic sigma function, as given by Weierstrass. Numerical and exact results on the symmetric solution which is singular at the origin are also presented.

Bäcklund Transformations as exact integrable time-discretizations for the trigonometric Gaudin model

We construct a two-parameter family of Bäcklund transformations for the trigonometric classical Gaudin magnet. The approach follows closely the one introduced by E.Sklyanin and V.Kuznetsov (1998,1999) in a number of seminal papers, and takes advantage of the intimate relation between the trigonometric and the rational case. As in the paper by A.Hone, V.Kuznetsov and one of the authors (O.R.) (2001) the Bäcklund transformations are presented as explicit symplectic maps, starting from their Lax representation. The (expected) connection with the XXZ Heisenberg chain is established and the rational case is recovered in a suitable limit. It is shown how to obtain a "physical" transformation mapping real variables into real variables. The interpolating Hamiltonian flow is derived and some numerical iterations of the map are presented.

A rigid body dynamics derived from a class of extended Gaudin models : an integrable discretization

We consider a hierarchy of classical Liouville completely integrable models sharing the same (linear) $r$--matrix structure obtained through an $N$--th jet--extension of $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ rational Gaudin models. The main goal of the present paper is the study of the integrable model corresponding to N=3, since the case N=2 has been considered by the authors in separate papers, both in the one--body case (Lagrange top) and in the $n$--body one (Lagrange chain). We now obtain a rigid body associated with a Lie--Poisson algebra which is an extension of the Lie--Poisson structure for the two--field top, thus breaking its semidirect product structure. In the second part of the paper we construct an integrable discretization of a suitable continuous Hamiltonian flow for the system. The map is constructed following the theory of Bäcklund transformations for finite--dimensional integrable systems developed by V.B. Kuznetsov and E.K. Sklyanin.

Quantum vs Classical Integrability in Ruijsenaars-Schneider Systems

The relationship (resemblance and/or contrast) between quantum and classical integrability in Ruijsenaars-Schneider systems, which are one parameter deformation of Calogero-Moser systems, is addressed. Many remarkable properties of classical Calogero and Sutherland systems (based on any root system) at equilibrium are reported in a previous paper (Corrigan-Sasaki). For example, the minimum energies, frequencies of small oscillations and the eigenvalues of Lax pair matrices at equilibrium are all "integer valued". In this paper we report that similar features and results hold for the Ruijsenaars-Schneider type of integrable systems based on the classical root systems.

dbar-approach to the dispersionless KP hierarchy

The dispersionless limit of the scalar nonlocal dbar-problem is derived. It is given by a special class of nonlinear first-order equations. A quasi-classical version of the dbar-dressing method is presented. It is shown that the algebraic formulation of dispersionless hierarchies can be expressed in terms of properties of Beltrami tupe equations. The universal Whitham hierarchy and, in particular, the dispersionless KP hierarchy turn out to be rings of symmetries for the quasi-classical dbar-problem.

Backlund transformations for the sl(2) Gaudin magnet

Elementary, one- and two-point, Backlund transformations are constructed for the generic case of the sl(2) Gaudin magnet. The spectrality property is used to construct these explicitly given, Poisson integrable maps which are time-discretizations of the continuous flows with any Hamiltonian from the spectral curve of the 2x2 Lax matrix.

The spin 1/2 Calogero-Gaudin System and its q-Deformation

The spin 1/2 Calogero-Gaudin system and its q-deformation are exactly solved: a complete set of commuting observables is diagonalized, and the corresponding eigenvectors and eigenvalues are explicitly calculated. The method of solution is purely algebraic and relies on the co-algebra simmetry of the model.

N=2 Hamiltonians with sl(2) coalgebra symmetry and their integrable deformations

Two dimensional classical integrable systems and different integrable deformations for them are derived from phase space realizations of classical $sl(2)$ Poisson coalgebras and their $q-$deformed analogues. Generalizations of Morse, oscillator and centrifugal potentials are obtained. The N=2 Calogero system is shown to be $sl(2)$ coalgebra invariant and the well-known Jordan-Schwinger realization can be also derived from a (non-coassociative) coproduct on $sl(2)$. The Gaudin Hamiltonian associated to such Jordan-Schwinger construction is presented. Through these examples, it can be clearly appreciated how the coalgebra symmetry of a hamiltonian system allows a straightforward construction of different integrable deformations for it.

Exact Solution of the Quantum Calogero-Gaudin System and of its q-Deformation

A complete set of commuting observables for the Calogero-Gaudin system is diagonalized, and the explicit form of the corresponding eigenvalues and eigenfunctions is derived. We use a purely algebraic procedure exploiting the co-algebra invariance of the model; with the proper technical modifications this procedure can be applied to the $q-$deformed version of the model, which is then also exactly solved.

Backlund transformations for many-body systems related to KdV

We present Backlund transformations (BTs) with parameter for certain classical integrable n-body systems, namely the many-body generalised Henon-Heiles, Garnier and Neumann systems. Our construction makes use of the fact that all these systems may be obtained as particular reductions (stationary or restricted flows) of the KdV hierarchy; alternatively they may be considered as examples of the reduced sl(2) Gaudin magnet. The BTs provide exact time-discretizations of the original (continuous) systems, preserving the Lax matrix and hence all integrals of motion, and satisfy the spectrality property with respect to the Backlund parameter.

Integrable discretizations of the spin Ruijsenaars-Schneider models

Integrable discretizations are introduced for the rational and hyperbolic spin Ruijsenaars--Schneider models. These discrete dynamical systems are demonstrated to belong to the same integrable hierarchies as their continuous--time counterparts. Explicit solutions are obtained for arbitrary flows of the hierarchies, including the discrete time ones.

Peakons, R-Matrix and Toda-Lattice

The integrability of a family of hamiltonian systems, describing in a particular case the motionof N ``peakons" (special solutions of the so-called Camassa-Holm equation) is established in the framework of the $r$-matrix approach, starting from its Lax representation. In the general case, the $r$-matrix is a dynamical one and has an interesting though complicated structure. However, for a particular choice of the relevant parameters in the hamiltonian (the one corresponding to the pure ``peakons" case), the $r$-matrix becomes essentially constant, and reduces to the one pertaining to the finite (non-periodic) Toda lattice. Intriguing consequences of such property are discussed and an integrable time discretisation is derived.

Integrable Time-Discretisation of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider Model

An exactly integrable symplectic correspondence is derived which in a continuum limit leads to the equations of motion of the relativistic generalization of the Calogero-Moser system, that was introduced for the first time by Ruijsenaars and Schneider. For the discrete-time model the equations of motion take the form of Bethe Ansatz equations for the inhomogeneous spin-1/2 Heisenberg magnet. We present a Lax pair, the symplectic structure and prove the involutivity of the invariants. Exact solutions are investigated in the rational and hyperbolic (trigonometric) limits of the system that is given in terms of elliptic functions. These solutions are connected with discrete soliton equations. The results obtained allow us to consider the Bethe Ansatz equations as ones giving an integrable symplectic correspondence mixing the parameters of the quantum integrable system and the parameters of the corresponding Bethe wavefunction.

Dynamical R-Matrices for Integrable Maps

The integrability of two symplectic maps, that can be considered as discrete-time analogs of the Garnier and Neumann systems is established in the framework of the $r$-matrix approach, starting from their Lax representation. In contrast with the continuous case, the $r$-matrix for such discrete systems turns out to be of dynamical type; remarkably, the induced Poisson structure appears as a linear combination of compatible ``more elementary" Poisson structures. It is also shown that the Lax matrix naturally leads to define separation variables, whose discrete and continuous dynamics is investigated.
