The non-diffractive pp cross-section and Survival Probabilities at LHC

We present an estimate of survival probability from an eikonal mini- jet model implemented with a proposal for soft gluon resummation to all orders. We compare it with experimental data for diffractive di-jet production from LHC experiments, CMS and ATLAS, both at LO and NLO order.

Study of the lowest tensor and scalar resonances in the $τ\to πππν_τ$ decay

In this note we present a new parametrization of the hadronic current for the decay $τ\to πππν_τ$ derived from the chiral lagrangian with explicit inclusion of resonances. We have included both scalar, vector and axial-vector resonances. For the first time, the lowest tensor resonance ($f_2(1270)$) is included as well. Both single and double-resonance contributions to the hadronic form factors are taken into account. To satisfy the correct high energy behaviour of the hadronic form factors, constraints on numerical values of the vertex constants are obtained.

Soft edge of hadron scattering and mini-jet models for the total and inelastic pp cross-sections at LHC and beyond

We show that the onset and rise of QCD mini-jets provide the dynamical mechanism behind the appearance of a soft edge in pp collisions around ISR energies and thus such a soft edge is built in our mini-jet model with soft gluon resummation. Here the model is optimized for LHC at $\sqrt{s} = 7, 8 TeV$ and predictions made for higher LHC and cosmic ray energies. Further, we provide a phenomenological picture to discuss the breakup of the total cross-section into its elastic, uncorrelated and correlated inelastic pieces in the framework of a one-channel eikonal function.

Study of predominant hadronic modes of $τ$-lepton using a Monte Carlo generator TAUOLA

TAUOLA is a Monte Carlo generator dedicated to generating tau-lepton decays and it is used in the analysis of experimental data both at B-factories and LHC. TAUOLA is a long-term project that started in the 90's and has been under development up to now. In this note we discuss the status of the predominant hadronic tau-lepton decays into two ($Br \simeq 25.52\%$) and three pions ($Br \simeq 18.67\%$).

Mini-Proceedings, 17th meeting of the Working Group on Radiative Corrections and MC Generators for Low Energies

The mini-proceedings of the 17$^{\mathrm{th}}$ Meeting of the "Working Group on Radiative Corrections and MonteCarlo Generators for Low Energies" held in Frascati, 20$^{\mathrm{th}}$ - 21$^{\mathrm{st}}$ April, are presented. These meetings, started in 2006, have as aim to bring together experimentalists and theoreticians working in the fields of meson transition form factors, hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the leptons, and the effective fine structure constant. The development of MonteCarlo generators and Radiative Corrections for precision $e^+e^-$ and $τ$-lepton physics are also covered, with emphasis on meson production. Heavy quark masses were covered as well in this edition.

RChL currents in Tauola: implementation and fit parameters

We present the results of a partial upgrade to the Monte Carlo event generator TAUOLA using Resonance Chiral Theory for the two and three meson final states. These modes account for 88% of total hadronic width of the tau meson. The first results of the model parameters have been obtained using Preliminary BaBar data for the three pion mode.

Mini-Proceedings, 16th meeting of the Working Group on Radiative Corrections and MC Generators for Low Energies

The mini-proceedings of the 16th Meeting of the "Working Group on Radiative Corrections and MonteCarlo Generators for Low Energies" held in Frascati, 18th - 19th November, are presented. These meetings, started in 2006, have as aim to bring together experimentalists and theoreticians working in the fields of meson transition form factors, hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the leptons, and the effective fine structure constant. The development of MonteCarlo generators and Radiative Corrections for precision $e^+e^-$ and τ-lepton physics are also covered.

p-air production cross-section and uncorrelated mini-jets processes in pp-scattering

For the p-air production cross-section, we use a Glauber formalism which inputs the pp inelastic cross-section from a mini-jet model embedded in a single-channel eikonal expression, which provides the needed contribution of uncorrelated processes. It is then shown that current LO parton density functions for the pp mini-jet cross-sections, with a rise tempered by collinearity induced by soft gluon re-summation, are well suited to reproduce recent cosmic ray results. By comparing results for GRV, MRST72 and MSTW parametrizations, we estimate the uncertainty related to the low-x behavior of these densities.

Infrared Gluon Resummation and pp total cross-sections

We address here the problem of describing both the total and the elastic proton-proton cross-section, through the four outstanding features of hadron scattering: (i) the optical point; (ii) the forward peak, (iii) the dip and (iv) the subsequent descent at larger momentum transfers. These issues are discussed through an eikonal model for the elastic amplitude where the matter distribution in impact parameter space is given by resummed soft gluons down into the infrared (IR) region. The asymptotic growth of the total cross-section is obtained in a mini-jet model and the taming (saturation) at high energies is related to confinement realized here through an IR singular strong coupling constant alpha_s(Q^2). We present an ansatz that links the IR singularity of alpha_s(Q^2) to that of asymptotic freedom (AF) (at lowest order). Through this model, we illustrate the problems that arise in a generic one-channel eikonal model employed for a description of the measured differential elastic cross-section at LHC7.

Resonance Chiral Lagrangian Currents and Experimental Data for $τ^-\toπ^{-}π^{-}π^{+}ν_τ$

In this paper we document the modifications introduced to the previous version of the Resonance Chiral Lagrangian current ({\it Phys.Rev.} {\bf D86} (2012) 113008) of the $τ^\pm \to π^\pm π^\pm π^\mp ν_τ$ decay which enable the one dimensional distributions measured by the BaBar collaboration to be well modeled. The main change required to model the data is the addition of the $σ$ resonance. Systematic errors, theoretical and experimental ones, limitations due to fits of one dimensional distributions only, and resulting difficulties and statistical/systematic errors for fitted parameters are addressed. The current and fitting environment is ready for comparisons with the fully exclusive experimental data. The present result for $τ^\pm \to π^\pm π^\pm π^\mp ν_τ$ is encouraging for work on other $τ$ decay modes and Resonance Chiral Lagrangian based currents.

Constraining the Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment

The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on "Constraining the hadronic contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment" which included the "13th meeting of the Radio MonteCarLow WG" and the "Satellite meeting R-Measurements at BES-III" held in Trento from April 10th to 12th, 2013, are presented. This collaboration meeting aims to bring together the experimental e+e- collider communities from BaBar, Belle, BESIII, CMD2, KLOE, and SND, with theorists working in the fields of meson transitions form factors, hadronic contributions to (g-2)_μand effective fine structure constant, and development of Monte Carlo generator and Radiative Corrections for precision e+e- and tau physics.

Three pseudoscalar meson production in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation

We study, at leading order in the large number of colours expansion and within the Resonance Chiral Theory framework, the odd-intrinsic-parity $e^+ e^- \rightarrow π^+ π^- (π^0, η)$ cross-sections in the energy regime populated by hadron resonances, namely $3 \, m_π \lsim E \lsim 2 \, \mbox{GeV}$. In addition we implement our results in the Monte Carlo generator PHOKHARA 7.0 and we simulate hadron production through the radiative return method.

Resonance chiral Lagrangian currents and tau decay Monte Carlo

Measurements of tau lepton, because of its long lifetime, large mass and parity sensitive couplings lead to broad physics interest. From the perspective of high-energy experiments such as at LHC, knowledge of tau lepton properties offers an important ingredient of new physics signatures. From the perspective of lower energies, tau lepton decays constitute an excellent laboratory for hadronic interactions. At present,hundreds of millions of tau decays have been amassed by both Belle and BaBar experiments. It is of utmost importance to represent such data in a form as useful for general applications as possible. In the present paper we describe the set of form factors for hadronic tau decays based on Resonance Chiral Theory. The technical implementation of the form factors in FORTRAN code is also explained. It is shown how it can be installed into TAUOLA Monte Carlo program. Then it is rather easy to implement into software environments of not only Belle and BaBar collaborations but also for FORTRAN and C++ applications of LHC. Description of the current for each tau decay mode is complemented with technical numerical tests. The set is ready for fits, parameters to be used in fits are explained. Arrangements to work with the experimental data not requiring unfolding are prepared. Hadronic currents, ready for confrontation with the tau decay data, but not yet ready for the general use, cover more than 88% of hadronic tau decay width.

Theoretical inputs and errors in the new hadronic currents in TAUOLA

The new hadronic currents implemented in the TAUOLA library are obtained in the unified and consistent framework of Resonance Chiral Theory: a Lagrangian approach in which the resonances exchanged in the hadronic tau decays are active degrees of freedom included in a way that reproduces the low-energy results of Chiral Perturbation Theory. The short-distance QCD constraints on the imaginary part of the spin-one correlators yield relations among the couplings that render the theory predictive. In this communication, the obtaining of the two- and three-meson form factors is sketched. One of the criticisms to our framework is that the error may be as large as 1/3, since it is a realization of the large-N_C limit of QCD in a meson theory. A number of arguments are given which disfavor that claim pointing to smaller errors, which would explain the phenomenological success of our description in these decays. Finally, other minor sources of error and current improvements of the code are discussed.
