Ground-state hyperfine splitting of B-like ions in high-Z region

The hyperfine splitting of the ground state of selected B-like ions within the range of nuclear charge numbers $Z=49-83$ is investigated in detail. The rigorous QED approach together with the large-scale configuration-interaction Dirac-Fock-Sturm method are employed for the evaluation of the interelectronic-interaction contributions of first and higher orders in $1/Z$. The screened QED corrections are evaluated to all orders in $αZ$ by using an effective potential. The influence of nuclear magnetization distribution is taken into account within the single-particle nuclear model.

Pressure effect on magnetic susceptibility of SmS in semiconducting phase: experimental study

Magnetic susceptibility $χ$ of the polycrystalline sample of samarium monosulfide was measured as a function of the hydrostatic pressure $P$ up to 2 kbar at liquid nitrogen and room temperatures using a pendulum-type magnetometer. A pronounced magnitude of the pressure effect is found to be positive in sign and strongly temperature dependent: the pressure derivatives of $χ$, d\,ln$χ$/d$P$, are $6.3\pm0.5$ and $14.2\pm1$ Mbar$^{-1}$ at 300 and 78 K, respectively. The obtained experimental results are discussed within phenomenological approaches.

Test of many-electron QED effects in the hyperfine splitting of heavy high-Z ions

A rigorous evaluation of the two-photon exchange corrections to the hyperfine structure in lithiumlike heavy ions is presented. As a result, the theoretical accuracy of the specific difference between the hyperfine splitting values of H- and Li-like Bi ions is significantly improved. This opens a possibility for the stringent test of the many-electron QED effects on a few percent level in the strongest electromagnetic field presently available in experiments.

Evaluation of the screened vacuum-polarization corrections to the hyperfine splitting of Li-like bismuth

The rigorous calculation of the vacuum-polarization screening corrections to the hyperfine splitting in Li-like bismuth is presented. The two-electron diagrams with electric and magnetic vacuum-polarization loops are evaluated to all orders in alpha*Z, including the Wichmann-Kroll contributions. This improves the accuracy of the theoretical prediction for the specific difference of the hyperfine splitting values of H- and Li-like bismuth.

Nuclear deformation effect on the binding energies in heavy ions

Nuclear deformation effects on the binding energies in heavy ions are investigated. Approximate formulas for the nuclear-size correction and the isotope shift for deformed nuclei are derived. Combined with direct numerical evaluations, these formulas are employed to reanalyse experimental data on the nuclear-charge-distribution parameters in $^{238}\textrm{U}$ and to revise the nuclear-size corrections to the binding energies in H- and Li-like $^{238}\textrm{U}$. As a result, the theoretical uncertainties for the ground-state Lamb shift in $^{238}\textrm{U}^{91+}$ and for the $2p_{1/2}-2s$ transition energy in $^{238}\textrm{U}^{89+}$ are significantly reduced. The isotope shift of the $2p_{j}-2s$ transition energies for $^{142}\textrm{Nd}^{57+}$ and $^{150}\textrm{Nd}^{57+}$ is also evaluated including nuclear size and nuclear recoil effects within a full QED treatment.

QED Effects in Heavy Few-Electron Ions

Accurate calculations of the binding energies, the hyperfine splitting, the bound-electron g-factor, and the parity nonconservation effects in heavy few-electron ions are considered. The calculations include the relativistic, quantum electrodynamic (QED), electron-correlation, and nuclear effects. The theoretical results are compared with available experimental data. A special attention is focused on tests of QED in a strong Coulomb field.
