The CATS Service: an Astrophysical Research Tool

We describe the current status of CATS (astrophysical CATalogs Support system), a publicly accessible tool maintained at Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SAO RAS) (http://cats.sao.ru) allowing one to search hundreds of catalogs of astronomical objects discovered all along the electromagnetic spectrum. Our emphasis is mainly on catalogs of radio continuum sources observed from 10 MHz to 245 GHz, and secondly on catalogs of objects such as radio and active stars, X-ray binaries, planetary nebulae, HII regions, supernova remnants, pulsars, nearby and radio galaxies, AGN and quasars. CATS also includes the catalogs from the largest extragalactic surveys with non-radio waves. In 2008 CATS comprised a total of about 10e9 records from over 400 catalogs in the radio, IR, optical and X-ray windows, including most source catalogs deriving from observations with the Russian radio telescope RATAN-600. CATS offers several search tools through different ways of access, e.g. via web interface and e-mail. Since its creation in 1997 CATS has managed about 10,000 requests. Currently CATS is used by external users about 1500 times per day and since its opening to the public in 1997 has received about 4000 requests for its selection and matching tasks.

On the Antenna Beam Shape Reconstruction Using Planet Transit

The calibration of the in-flight antenna beam shape and possible beamdegradation is one of the most crucial tasks for the upcoming Planck mission. We examine several effects which could significantly influence the in-flight main beam calibration using planet transit: the problems of the variability of the Jupiter's flux, the antenna temperature and passing of the planets through the main beam. We estimate these effects on the antenna beam shape calibration and calculate the limits on the main beam and far sidelobe measurements, using observations of Jupiter and Saturn. We also discuss possible effects of degradation of the mirror surfaces and specify corresponding parameters which can help us to determine these effects.

Determination of Ω_Λand H_0 from photometric data of radio galaxies

From photometric observations of elliptical galaxies, among which are both radio galaxies and radio-quiet objects, an investigation was carried out of the relationship `redshift -- age of the stellar system' $(Δz/Δt)$. By means of this relationship cosmological parameters $H(z)$ and $Ω_Λ$ are estimated. Ages of stellar systems are determined within the framework of evolution models of synthetic spectra PEGASE and GISSEL. This approach can be considered as time study of objects of the early Universe independent of other cosmological models. Construction of a pooled sample is described, containing 220 objects from different populations of elliptical galaxies, for which an analysis of the upper limit of the age of formation of a stellar system was performed. These data were used to estimate the boundaries of determination of the cosmological parameters $H_0$ and $Λ$--term: $H_0=72\pm10$ and $Ω_Λ=0.8\pm0.1$ in the model GISSEL and $H_0=53\pm10$, and $Ω_Λ=0.8\pm0.1$ in the model PEGASE.

Current status of the CATS database

We describe the current status of CATS, a publicly accessible database (web-server http://cats.sao.ru) allowing one to search in hundreds of catalogs of astronomical objects discovered all along the electromagnetic spectrum. Our emphasis is mainly laid on catalogs of radio continuum sources observed from 30 to 15000 MHz, secondly on catalogs of objects such as radio and active stars, planetary nebulae, HII regions, supernova remnants (SNR), pulsars, nearby galaxies, AGN and quasars. CATS also includes the catalogs from the largest extragalactic surveys, like NVSS, FIRST, WENSS, VLSS, TXS, GB6, SUMSS, IRAS, 2MASS, SDSS, ROSAT, PGC, MCG, etc. In 2004 CATS comprised a total of $\sim10^9$ records from over 400 catalogs in the radio, IR, optical and X-ray windows, including most of RATAN--600 catalogs. CATS is being expanded and updated, both with newly published catalogs as well as older ones which we have created in electronic form for the first time. We describe the principles of organization of the database of astrophysical catalogs and the main functions of CATS.

On the Photometric Redshift Estimates for FR II Radio Galaxies

Using the photometric data on FR II radio galaxies obtained in the Big Trio Program and data from other sources, we confirmed the stable correlation between the spectroscopic and photometric redshifts up to z~4 determined from the evolutionary synthetic spectra of elliptical galaxies. This is a confirmation for the theoretical predictions of the existence of a stellar population at high redshifts and its subsequent evolution corresponding to the population of giant elliptical galaxies.

RC J0311+0507: A Candidate for Superpowerful Radio Galaxies in the Early Universe at Redshift z=4.514

A strong emission line at 6703A has been detected in the optical spectrum for the host galaxy (R=23.1) of the radio source RC J0311+0507 (4C+04.11). This radio galaxy, with a spectral index of 1.31 in the frequency range 365-4850 MHz, is one of the ultrasteep spectrum objects from the deep survey of a sky strip conducted with RATAN-600 in 1980-1981. We present arguments in favor of the identification of this line with Lyαat redshift z=4.514. In this case, the object belongs to the group of extremely distant radio galaxies of ultrahigh radio luminosity (P_{1400}=1.3 x 10^{29}W Hz^{-1}). Such power can be provided only by a fairly massive black hole (~10^9M_\sun}) that formed in a time less than the age of the Universe at the observed z(1.3 Gyr) or had a primordial origin.

RATAN-600 new zenith field survey and CMB problems

We present new RATAN-600 data on the synchrotron Galaxy radiation at the PLANCK Mission and WMAP frequencies at high Galactic latitudes upto l=3000. The difference between the standard synchrotron template (l<50) of the WMAP group and RATAN-600 data was detected with the strong synchrotron ``longitude quadrant asymmetry''. It may change the WMAP estimates of z_{reheating} from low l polarization data. The polarized synchrotron noise for very deep observations (<< 1 microK) at the PLANCK HFI was not detected at l>200 scales. ``Sakharov Oscillations'' in the E-mode (500<l<2000) should be well visible even at ~10 GHz. The polarized noise from relic gravitational waves (l~80) may be confused with B-mode of synchrotron Galaxy polarized noise at the frequencies below 100 GHz, but there are no problems at HFI-band.

Gauss--Legendre Sky Pixelization (GLESP) for CMB maps

A new scheme of sky pixelization is developed for CMB maps. The scheme is based on the Gauss--Legendre polynomials zeros and allows one to create strict orthogonal expansion of the map. A corresponding code has been implemented and comparison with other methods has been done.

Cross-correlation of the CMB and foregrounds phases derived from the WMAP data

We present circular and linear cross-correlation tests and the "friend-of-friend" analysis for phases of the Internal Linear Combination Map (ILC) and the WMAP foregrounds for all K--W frequency bands at the range of multipoles $\ell\le100$. We compare also Tegmark, de Oliveira-Costa and Hamilton (2003) and Naselsky et al. (2003) cleaned maps with corresponding foregrounds. We have found significant deviations from the expected Poissonian statistics for all the cleaned maps and foregrounds. Our analysis shows that, for a low multipole range of the cleaned maps, power spectra contains some of the foregrounds residuals mainly from the W band.

Phase cross-correlation of the WMAP ILC map and foregrounds

We present a circular cross-correlation tests for the phases of the Internal Linear Combination Map (ILC) and {\it WMAP}'s foregrounds for all K--W frequency bands at the range of multipoles $\ell\le 50$. We have found significant deviations from the expected Poissonian statistics for the ILC and the foregrounds phases. Our analysis shows that the low multipole range of the ILC power spectrum contains some of the foregrounds residues.

Results of investigation of radio galaxies of the survey "Cold": photometry, colour redshifts and the age of the stellar population

BVRI data for the majority of the objects of the RC catalogue with steep spectra and $m_R<24^m$ are presented. These data have been used to estimate colour redshifts and the age of stellar systems of host galaxies. By way of example of distant radio galaxies it is shown that this approach gives an accuracy of redshift estimates close to that for field galaxies ($\sim20$ %). The age estimates are less confident, however, the lower age limit for not too distant ($z<1.5$) objects is determined quite reliably. Several galaxies have been detected that have an age above that of the Universe at the given $z$ in a simple CDM model of the Universe. A possibility of using such objects to specify the part played by ``dark energy'' is discussed. This paradox disappears in a model with the $Λ$-term equal to 0.6--0.8.

Photometric study of radio galaxies in RATAN--600 "Cold" survey

About 100 steep spectrum radio sources from the RATAN--600 RC catalog were mapped by the VLA and identified with optical objects down to 24$^m$--25$^m$ in the R band using the 6 m telescope. An updated list of calibrators with known redshifts of the same class RGs was compiled to evaluate the accuracy of photometric redshifts estimates. BVRI photometry for 60 RC objects was performed with the 6 m telescope, and by standard model fitting we have estimated colour redshifts and ages of stellar population of host gE galaxies. The mean redshift of FRII RGs from the RC list happened to be $\approx$1. Several objects were found in which active star formation began in the first billion years after the Big Bang.

IRAS F02044+0957: radio source in interacting system of galaxies

The steep spectrum of IRAS F02044+0957 was obtained with the RATAN-600 radio telescope at four frequencies. Optical spectroscopy of the system components, was carried out with the 2.1m telescope of the Guillermo Haro Observatory. Observational data allow us to conclude that this object is a pair of interacting galaxies, a LINER and a HII galaxy, at $z=0.093$.

The FIRST-APM QSO survey (FAQS) in the SBS Region. Preliminary Results

The main goal of the FIRST-APM QSO Survey (FAQS) survey is to compile the most complete sample of Bright QSOs, located in the area covered by the Second Byurakan Survey (SBS). Here we report the first results of an ongoing study based on the cross-identification of the FIRST radio catalog and the APM optical catalog. The overlapping sky area between FIRST and SBS is about 700 deg$^{2}$. The compiled list of sources for this overlapping region contains $\sim 400$ quasar candidates brighter than $B=18\fm5$. About 90 objects were already spectroscopically classified. During 1999-2000, we observed spectroscopically more than 150 FAQS objects with the 2.1m telescope of the Guillermo Haro Observatory (GHO).We have found 51 new QSOs (4 BAL QSOs), 13 Seyfert Galaxies (5 NLSy1's), 23 emission line galaxies, 3 BL Lac objects and 57 stars.

An algorithm for cleaning extended interferences in radio astronomical records

An algorithm is described for removing extended interferences, for instance from a radar, which are shorter than the time of passage of a radio source across the beam of the radio telescope. The algorithm is developed on the basis of robust procedures with the application of extreme statistics. A procedure of removing ``jumps'' in observational records is also described. The results of performance of the algorithms are illustrated in the figures. The cleaning procedures are included in the standard data reduction system of RATAN-600.
