Anderson transition for Google matrix eigenstates

We introduce a number of random matrix models describing the Google matrix G of directed networks. The properties of their spectra and eigenstates are analyzed by numerical matrix diagonalization. We show that for certain models it is possible to have an algebraic decay of PageRank vector with the exponent similar to real directed networks. At the same time the spectrum has no spectral gap and a broad distribution of eigenvalues in the complex plain. The eigenstates of G are characterized by the Anderson transition from localized to delocalized states and a mobility edge curve in the complex plane of eigenvalues.

Thermoelectricity of Wigner crystal in a periodic potential

We study numerically the thermoelectricity of the classical Wigner crystal placed in a periodic potential and being in contact with a thermal bath modeled by the Langevin dynamics. At low temperatures the system has sliding and pinned phases with the Aubry transition between them. We show that in the Aubry pinned phase the dimensionless Seebeck coefficient can reach very high values of several hundreds. At the same time the charge and thermal conductivity of crystal drop significantly inside this phase. Still we find that the largest values of $ZT$ factor are reached in the Aubry phase and for the studied parameter range we obtain $ZT \leq 4.5$. We argue that this system can provide an optimal regime for reaching high $ZT$ factors and realistic modeling of thermoelecriticy. Possible experimental realizations of this model are discussed.

Synchronization theory of microwave induced zero-resistance states

We develop the synchronization theory of microwave induced zero-resistance states (ZRS) for two-dimensional electron gas in a magnetic field. In this theory the dissipative effects lead to synchronization of cyclotron phase with driving microwave phase at certain resonant ratios between microwave and cyclotron frequencies. This synchronization produces stabilization of electron transport along edge channels and at the same time it gives suppression of dissipative scattering on local impurities and dissipative conductivity in the bulk, thus creating the ZRS phases at that frequency ratios. The electron dynamics along edge and around circular disk impurity is well described by the Chirikov standard map. The theoretical analysis is based on extensive numerical simulations of classical electron transport in a strongly nonlinear regime. We also discuss the value of activation energy obtained in our model and the experimental signatures that could establish the synchronization origin of ZRS.

Wigner crystal in snaked nanochannels: outlook

We study properties of Wigner crystal in snaked nanochannels and show that they are characterized by a conducting sliding phase at low charge densities and an insulating pinned phase emerging above a certain critical charge density. We trace parallels between this model problem and the Little suggestion for electron transport in organic molecules. We also show that in presence of periodic potential inside the snaked channel the sliding phase exists only inside a certain window of electron densities that has similarities with a pressure dependence of conductivity in organic conductors. Our studies show emergence of dynamical glassy phase in a purely periodic potential in absence of any disorder that can explain enormously slow variations of resistivity in organic conductors. Finally we discuss the KAM concept of superfluidity induced by repulsive Coulomb interaction between electrons. We argue that the transition from the sliding KAM phase to the pinned Aubry phase corresponds to the superfluid-insulator transition.

Wigner crystal in snaked nanochannels

We study properties of Wigner crystal in snaked nanochannels and show that they are characterized by conducting sliding phase at low charge densities and insulating pinned phase emerging above a certain critical charge density. The transition between these phases has a devil's staircase structure typical for the Aubry transition in dynamical maps and the Frenkel-Kontorova model. We discuss implications of this phenomenon for charge density waves in quasi-one-dimensional organic conductors and for supercapacitors in nanopore materials.

Two-dimensional ranking of Wikipedia articles

The Library of Babel, described by Jorge Luis Borges, stores an enormous amount of information. The Library exists {\it ab aeterno}. Wikipedia, a free online encyclopaedia, becomes a modern analogue of such a Library. Information retrieval and ranking of Wikipedia articles become the challenge of modern society. While PageRank highlights very well known nodes with many ingoing links, CheiRank highlights very communicative nodes with many outgoing links. In this way the ranking becomes two-dimensional. Using CheiRank and PageRank we analyze the properties of two-dimensional ranking of all Wikipedia English articles and show that it gives their reliable classification with rich and nontrivial features. Detailed studies are done for countries, universities, personalities, physicists, chess players, Dow-Jones companies and other categories.

Quantum compacton vacuum

We study the properties of classical and quantum compacton chains by means of extensive numerical simulations. Such chains are strongly nonlinear and their classical dynamics remains chaotic at arbitrarily low energies. We show that the collective excitations of classical chains are described by sound waves which decay rate scales algebraically with the wave number with a generic exponent value. The properties of the quantum chains are studied by the quantum Monte Carlo method and it is found that the low energy excitations are well described by effective phonon modes with the sound velocity dependent on an effective Planck constant. Our results show that at low energies the quantum effects lead to a suppression of chaos and drive the system to a quasi-integrable regime of effective phonon modes.

Towards Google matrix of brain

We apply the approach of the Google matrix, used in computer science and World Wide Web, to description of properties of neuronal networks. The Google matrix ${\bf G}$ is constructed on the basis of neuronal network of a brain model discussed in PNAS {\bf 105}, 3593 (2008). We show that the spectrum of eigenvalues of ${\bf G}$ has a gapless structure with long living relaxation modes. The PageRank of the network becomes delocalized for certain values of the Google damping factor $α$. The properties of other eigenstates are also analyzed. We discuss further parallels and similarities between the World Wide Web and neuronal networks.

Google matrix, dynamical attractors and Ulam networks

We study the properties of the Google matrix generated by a coarse-grained Perron-Frobenius operator of the Chirikov typical map with dissipation. The finite size matrix approximant of this operator is constructed by the Ulam method. This method applied to the simple dynamical model creates the directed Ulam networks with approximate scale-free scaling and characteristics being rather similar to those of the World Wide Web. The simple dynamical attractors play here the role of popular web sites with a strong concentration of PageRank. A variation of the Google parameter $α$ or other parameters of the dynamical map can drive the PageRank of the Google matrix to a delocalized phase with a strange attractor where the Google search becomes inefficient.

Quantum synchronization and entanglement of two qubits coupled to a driven dissipative resonator

Using method of quantum trajectories we study the behavior of two identical or different superconducting qubits coupled to a quantum dissipative driven resonator. Above a critical coupling strength the qubit rotations become synchronized with the driving field phase and their evolution becomes entangled even if two qubits may significantly differ from one another. Such entangled qubits can radiate entangled photons that opens new opportunities for entangled wireless communication in a microwave range.

Synchronization and bistability of qubit coupled to a driven dissipative oscillator

We study numerically the behavior of qubit coupled to a quantum dissipative driven oscillator (resonator). Above a critical coupling strength the qubit rotations become synchronized with the oscillator phase. In the synchronized regime, at certain parameters, the qubit exhibits tunneling between two orientations with a macroscopic change of number of photons in the resonator. The life times in these metastable states can be enormously large. The synchronization leads to a drastic change of qubit radiation spectrum with appearance of narrow lines corresponding to recently observed single artificial-atom lasing [O. Astafiev {\it et al.} Nature {\bf 449}, 588 (2007)].

Frenkel-Kontorova model with cold trapped ions

We study analytically and numerically the properties of one-dimensional chain of cold ions placed in a periodic potential of optical lattice and global harmonic potential of a trap. In close similarity with the Frenkel-Kontorova model, a transition from sliding to pinned phase takes place with the increase of the optical lattice potential for the density of ions incommensurate with the lattice period. Quantum fluctuations lead to a quantum phase transition and melting of pinned instanton glass phase at large values of dimensional Planck constant. The obtained results are also relevant for a Wigner crystal placed in a periodic potential.

Dissipative decoherence in the Grover algorithm

Using the methods of quantum trajectories we study effects of dissipative decoherence on the accuracy of the Grover quantum search algorithm. The dependence on the number of qubits and dissipation rate are determined and tested numerically with up to 16 qubits. As a result, our numerical and analytical studies give the universal law for decay of fidelity and probability of searched state which are induced by dissipative decoherence effects. This law is in agreement with the results obtained previously for quantum chaos algorithms.

Quantum synchronization

Using the methods of quantum trajectories we study numerically the phenomenon of quantum synchronization in a quantum dissipative system with periodic driving. Our results show that at small values of Planck constant $\hbar$ the classical devil's staircase remains robust with respect to quantum fluctuations while at large $\hbar$ values synchronization plateaus are destroyed. Quantum synchronization in our model has close similarities with Shapiro steps in Josephson junctions and it can be also realized in experiments with cold atoms.

Phonon modes in the Frenkel-Kontorova chain: exponential localization and the number theory properties of frequency bands

We study numerically phonon modes of the classical one-dimensional Frenkel-Kontorova chain, in the regime of pinned phase characterized by the phonon gap and devil's staircase, as well as by a large number of states (configurational excitations), which energy splitting from the ground state is exponentially small. We demonstrate, these states behave like disorder media: their phonon modes are {\it exponentially} localized, in contrast to the phonon modes in the ground state, where phonons are {\it prelocalized} only. We demonstrate also, the phonon frequency spectrum of the ground state has an hierarchical structure, a direct manifestation of hierarchical spatial structure, found for the ground state of the FK chain in our recent work.

Effects of decoherence and imperfections for quantum algorithms

We study effects of static inter-qubit interactions and random errors in quantum gates on the stability of various quantum algorithms including the Grover quantum search algorithm and the quantum chaos maps. For the Grover algorithm our numerical and analytical results show existence of regular and chaotic phases depending on the static imperfection strength $ε$. The critical border $ε_c$ between two phases drops polynomially with the number of qubits $n_q$ as $ε_c \sim n_q^{-3/2}$. In the regular phase $(ε< ε_c)$ the algorithm remains robust against imperfections showing the efficiency gain $ε_c / ε$ for $ε> 2^{-n_q/2}$. In the chaotic phase $(ε> ε_c)$ the algorithm is completely destroyed. The results for the Grover algorithm are compared with the imperfection effects for quantum algorithms of quantum chaos maps where the universal law for the fidelity decay is given by the Random Matrix Theory (RMT). We also discuss a new gyroscopic quantum error correction method which allows to reduce the effect of static imperfections. In spite of this decay GYQEC allows to obtain a significant gain in the accuracy of quantum computations.

Quantum phase transition in the Frenkel-Kontorova chain: from pinned instanton glass to sliding phonon gas

We study analytically and numerically the one-dimensional quantum Frenkel-Kontorova chain in the regime when the classical model is located in the pinned phase characterized by the gaped phonon excitations and devil's staircase. By extensive quantum Monte Carlo simulations we show that for the effective Planck constant $\hbar$ smaller than the critical value $\hbar_c$ the quantum chain is in the pinned instanton glass phase. In this phase the elementary excitations have two branches: phonons, separated from zero energy by a finite gap, and instantons which have an exponentially small excitation energy. At $\hbar=\hbar_c$ the quantum phase transition takes place and for $\hbar>\hbar_c$ the pinned instanton glass is transformed into the sliding phonon gas with gapless phonon excitations. This transition is accompanied by the divergence of the spatial correlation length and appearence of sliding modes at $\hbar>\hbar_c$.
