Subordination methods for free deconvolution

In this paper, we give subordination functions for free additive and free multiplicative deconvolutions in some domain of the complex half-plane, under the condition that the distributions admit moments, respectively, of second order for the additive deconvolution and of fourth order for the multiplicative one. Our method of proof allows us to give an algorithm to calculate these subordinations functions, and thus the associated Cauchy transforms, for complex numbers with imaginary part bigger than a parameter depending on the measure to deconvolve. This reduces the problem of free deconvolutions to the one of the classical deconvolution with a Cauchy distribution and thus combined with known methods for the latter problem we are able to solve the deconvolution problem for the scalar case. We present also an extension of these results to the case of operator valued distributions.

Energy of a Vertex

In this paper we develop the concept of energy of a vertex introduced in Arizmendi and Juarez-Romero (2016). We derive basic inequalities, continuity properties, give examples and extend the definition to locally finite graphs.

Limit theorems for free Lévy processes

We consider different limit theorems for additive and multiplicative free Lévy processes. The main results are concerned with positive and unitary multiplicative free Lévy processes at small time, showing convergence to log free stable laws for many examples. The additive case is much easier, and we establish the convergence at small or large time to free stable laws. During the investigation we found out that a log free stable law with index $1$ coincides with the Dykema-Haagerup distribution. We also consider limit theorems for positive multiplicative Boolean Lévy processes at small time, obtaining log Boolean stable laws in the limit.

A Berry Esseen type limit theorem for Boolean convolution

We give estimates on the rate of convergence in the Boolean central limit theorem for the Lévy distance. In the case of measures with bounded support we obtain a sharp estimate by giving a qualitative description of this convergence.

Cumulants for finite free convolution

In this paper we define cumulants for finite free convolution. We give a moment-cumulant formula and show that these cumulants satisfy desired properties: they are additive with respect to finite free convolution and they approach free cumulants as the dimension goes to infinity.

The exponential map in non-commutative probability

The wrapping transformation $W$ is a homomorphism from the semigroup of probability measures on the real line, with the convolution operation, to the semigroup of probability measures on the circle, with the multiplicative convolution operation. We show that on a large class $\mathcal{L}$ of measures, $W$ also transforms the three non-commutative convolutions---free, Boolean, and monotone---to their multiplicative counterparts. Moreover, the restriction of $W$ to $\mathcal{L}$ preserves various qualitative properties of measures and triangular arrays. We use these facts to give short proofs of numerous known, and new, results about multiplicative convolutions.

On the spectral distributions of distance-k graph of free product graphs

We calculate the distribution with respect to the vacuum state of the distance-$k$ graph of a $d$-regular tree. From this result we show that the distance-$k$ graph of a $d$-regular graphs converges to the distribution of the distance-$k$ graph of a regular tree. Finally, we prove that, properly normalized, the asymptotic distributions of distance-$k$ graphs of the $d$-fold free product graph, as $d$ tends to infinity, is given by the distribution of $P_k(s)$, where $s$ is a semicircle random variable and $P_k$ is the $k$-th Chebychev polynomial.

Free Subordination and Belinschi-Nica Semigroup

We realize the Belinschi-Nica semigroup of homomorphisms as a free multiplicative subordination. This realization allows to define more general semigroups of homomorphisms with respect to free multiplicative convolution. For these semigroups we show that a differential equation holds, generalizing the complex Burgers equation. We give examples of free multiplicative subordination and find a relation to the Markov-Krein transform, Boolean stable laws and monotone stable laws. A similar idea works for additive subordination, and in particular we study the free additive subordination associated to the Cauchy distribution and show that it is a homomorphism with respect to monotone, Boolean and free additive convolutions.

On the asymptotic distribution of block-modified random matrices

We study random matrices acting on tensor product spaces which have been transformed by a linear block operation. Using operator-valued free probability theory, under some mild assumptions on the linear map acting on the blocks, we compute the asymptotic eigenvalue distribution of the modified matrices in terms of the initial asymptotic distribution. Moreover, using recent results on operator-valued subordination, we present an algorithm that computes, numerically but in full generality, the limiting eigenvalue distribution of the modified matrices. Our analytical results cover many cases of interest in quantum information theory: we unify some known results and we obtain new distributions and various generalizations.

Large area convex holes in random point sets

Let $K, L$ be convex sets in the plane. For normalization purposes, suppose that the area of $K$ is $1$. Suppose that a set $K_n$ of $n$ points are chosen independently and uniformly over $K$, and call a subset of $K$ a {\em hole} if it does not contain any point in $K_n$. It is shown that w.h.p. the largest area of a hole homothetic to $L$ is $(1+o(1)) \log{n}/n$. We also consider the problems of estimating the largest area convex hole, and the largest area of a convex polygonal hole with vertices in $K_n$. For these two problems we show that the answer is $Θ\bigl(\log{n}/n\bigr)$.

Asymptotic spectral distributions of distance $k$-graphs of star product graphs

Let $G$ be a finite connected graph and let $G^{[\star N,k]}$ be the distance $k$-graph of the $N$-fold star power of $G$. For a fixed $k\geq1$, we show that the large $N$ limit of the spectral distribution of $G^{[\star N,k]}$ converges to a centered Bernoulli distribution, $1/2δ_{-1}+1/2δ_1$. The proof is based in a fourth moment lemma for convergence to a centered Bernoulli distribution.

Relations between cumulants in noncommutative probability

We express classical, free, Boolean and monotone cumulants in terms of each other, using combinatorics of heaps, pyramids, Tutte polynomials and permutations. We completely determine the coefficients of these formulas with the exception of the formula for classical cumulants in terms of monotone cumulants whose coefficients are only partially computed.

Classical and free infinite divisibility for Boolean stable laws

We completely determine the free infinite divisibility for the Boolean stable law which is parametrized by a stability index $α$ and an asymmetry coefficient $ρ$. We prove that the Boolean stable law is freely infinitely divisible if and only if one of the following conditions holds: $0<α\leq\frac{1}{2}$; $\frac{1}{2}<α\leq\frac{2}{3}$ and $2-\frac{1}α\leqρ\leq \frac{1}α-1$; $α=1,~ρ=\frac{1}{2}$. Positive Boolean stable laws corresponding to $ρ=1$ and $α\leq \frac{1}{2}$ have completely monotonic densities and they are both freely and classically infinitely divisible. We also show that continuous Boolean convolutions of positive Boolean stable laws with different stability indices are also freely and classically infinitely divisible. Boolean stable laws, free stable laws and continuous Boolean convolutions of positive Boolean stable laws are non-trivial examples whose free divisibility indicators are infinity. We also find that the free multiplicative convolution of Boolean stable laws is again a Boolean stable law.

Convergence of the Fourth Moment and Infinite Divisibility: Quantitative estimates

We give an estimate for the Kolmogorov distance between an infinitely divisible distribution (with mean zero and variance one) and the standard Gaussian distribution in terms of the difference between the fourth moment and 3. In a similar fashion we give an estimate for the Kolmogorov distance between a freely infinitely divisible distribution and the Semicircle distribution in terms of the difference between the fourth moment and 2.

On a class of explicit Cauchy-Stieltjes transforms related to monotone stable and free Poisson laws

We consider a class of probability measures $μ_{s,r}^α$ which have explicit Cauchy-Stieltjes transforms. This class includes a symmetric beta distribution, a free Poisson law and some beta distributions as special cases. Also, we identify $μ_{s,2}^α$ as a free compound Poisson law with Lévy measure a monotone $α$-stable law. This implies the free infinite divisibility of $μ_{s,2}^α$. Moreover, when symmetric or positive, $μ_{s,2}^α$ has a representation as the free multiplication of a free Poisson law and a monotone $α$-stable law. We also investigate the free infinite divisibility of $μ_{s,r}^α$ for $r\neq2$. Special cases include the beta distributions $B(1-\frac{1}{r},1+\frac{1}{r})$ which are freely infinitely divisible if and only if $1\leq r\leq2$.

Convergence of the Fourth Moment and Infinite Divisibility

In this note we prove that, for infinitely divisible laws, convergence of the fourth moment to 3 is sufficient to ensure convergence in law to the Gaussian distribution. Our results include infinitely divisible measures with respect to classical, free, Boolean and monotone convolution. A similar criterion is proved for compound Poissons with jump distribution supported on a finite number of atoms. In particular, this generalizes recent results of Nourdin and Poly.

Semigroups related to additive and multiplicative, free and Boolean convolutions

Belinschi and Nica introduced a composition semigroup on the set of probability measures. Using this semigroup, they introduced a free divisibility indicator, from which one can know whether a probability measure is freely infinitely divisible or not. In this paper we further investigate this indicator, introduce a multiplicative version of it and are able to show many properties. Specifically, on the first half of the paper, we calculate how the indicator changes with respect to free and Boolean powers; we prove that free and Boolean 1/2-stable laws have free divisibility indicators equal to infinity; we derive an upper bound of the indicator in terms of Jacobi parameters. This upper bound is achieved only by free Meixner distributions. We also prove Bozejko's conjecture which says the Boolean power of a probability measure mu by 0 < t < 1 is freely infinitely divisible if mu is so. In the other half of this paper, we introduce an analogous composition semigroup for multiplicative convolutions and define free divisibility indicators for these convolutions. Moreover, we prove that a probability measure on the unit circle is freely infinitely divisible concerning the multiplicative free convolution if and only if the indicator is not less than one. We also prove how the multiplicative divisibility indicator changes under free and Boolean powers and then the multiplicative analogue of Bozejko's conjecture. We include an appendix, where the Cauchy distributions and point measures are shown to be the only fixed points of the Boolean-to-free Bercovici-Pata bijection.

On the Law of Free Subordinators

We study the freely infinitely divisible distributions that appear as the laws of free subordinators. This is the free analog of classically infinitely divisible distributions supported on [0,\infty), called the free regular measures. We prove that the class of free regular measures is closed under the free multiplicative convolution, t-th boolean power for $0\leq t\leq 1$, t-th free multiplicative power for $t\geq 1$ and weak convergence. In addition, we show that a symmetric distribution is freely infinitely divisible if and only if its square can be represented as the free multiplicative convolution of a free Poisson and a free regular measure. This gives two new explicit examples of distributions which are infinitely divisible with respect to both classical and free convolutions: χ^2(1) and F(1,1). Another consequence is that the free commutator operation preserves free infinite divisibility.
