Generalised asymptotic equivalence for extensive and non-extensive entropies

We extend the Hanel and Thurner asymptotic analysis to both extensive and non-extensive entropies on the basis of a wide class of entropic forms. The procedure is known to be capable to classify multiple entropy measures in terms of their defining equivalence classes. Those are determined by a pair of scaling exponents taking into account a large number of microstates as for the thermodynamical limit. Yet, a generalisation to this formulation makes it possible to establish an entropic connection between Markovian and non-Markovian statistical systems through a set of fundamental entropies $S_{\pm}$, which have been studied in other contexts and exhibit, among their attributes, two interesting aspects: They behave as additive for a large number of degrees of freedom while they are substantially non-additive for a small number of them. Furthermore, an ample amount of special entropy measures, either additive or non-additive, are contained in such asymptotic classification. Under this scheme we analyse the equivalence classes of Tsallis, Sharma-Mittal and R\'enyi entropies and study their features in the thermodynamic limit as well as the correspondences among them.

New Reflections on Gravitational Duality

In general terms duality consists of two descriptions of one physical system by using degrees of freedom of different nature. There are different kinds of dualities and they have been extremely useful to uncover the underlying strong coupling dynamics of gauge theories in various dimensions and those of the diverse string theories. Perhaps the oldest example exhibiting this property is Maxwell theory, which interchanges electric and magnetic fields. An extension of this duality involving the sources is also possible if the magnetic monopole is incorporated. At the present time a lot has been understood about duality in non-Abelian gauge theories as in the case of N=4 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions or in the Seiberg-Witten duality for N=2 theories. Moreover, a duality that relates a gravitational theory (or a string theory) and a conformal gauge theory, as in the case of gauge/gravity correspondence, have been also studied with considerable detail. The case of duality between two gravitational theories is the so called gravitational duality. At the present time, this duality has not been exhaustively studied, however some advances have been reported in the literature. In the present paper we give a general overview of this subject. In particular we will focus on non-Abelian dualities, applied to various theories of gravity as developed by the authors, based in the Rocek-Verlinde duality procedure. Finally, as a new development in this direction, we study the gravitational duality in Hitchin's gravity in seven and six dimensions and their relation is also discussed.

Closed String Tachyon: Inflation and Cosmological Collapse

By compactifying a critical bosonic string theory on an internal non-flat space with a constant volume, we study the role played by the closed string tachyon in the cosmology of the effective four-dimensional space-time. The effective tachyon potential consists on a negative constant related to the internal curvature space and a polynomial with only quadratic and quartic terms of the tachyon field. Based on it, we present a solution for the tachyon field and the scale factor, which describes an accelerated universe which expands to a maximum value before collapsing. At early times, the closed string tachyon potential behaves as a cosmological constant driving the Universe to an expansion. The value of the cosmological constant is determined by the curvature of the internal space which also fixes the value of the vacuum energy. As time evolves, inflation is present in our models, and it finishes long before the collapsing. At late times, we show that the collapse of the Universe starts as soon as the tachyon field condensates. We also comment on the consistency of our solution at early times at which quantum aspects become important under the perspective of quantum cosmology. Finally we briefly mention the relation among the curvature of the internal space and the value of the energy vacuum in a non-constant internal volume scenario.

Can noncommutative effects account for the present speed up of the cosmic expansion?

In this paper we investigate to which extent noncommutativity, a intrinsically quantum property, may influence the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological dynamics at late times/large scales. To our purpose it will be enough to explore the asymptotic properties of the cosmological model in the phase space. Our recipe to build noncommutativity into our model is based in the approach of reference [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 88} (2002) 161301], and can be summarized in the following steps: i) the Hamiltonian is derived from the Einstein-Hilbert action (plus a self-interacting scalar field action) for a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime with flat spatial sections, ii) canonical quantization recipe is applied, i. e., the minisuperspace variables are promoted to operators, and the WDW equation is written in terms of these variables, iii) noncommutativity in the minisuperspace is achieved through the replacement of the standard product of functions by the Moyal star product in the WDW equation, and, finally, iv) semi-classical cosmological equations are obtained by means of the WKB approximation applied to the (equivalent) modified Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We demonstrate, indeed, that noncommutative effects of the kind considered here, can be those responsible for the present speed up of the cosmic expansion.

Supersymmetric classical cosmology

In this work a supersymmetric cosmological model is analyzed in which we consider a general superfield action of a homogeneous scalar field supermultiplet interacting with the scale factor in a supersymmetric FRW model. There appear fermionic superpartners associated with both the scale factor and the scalar field, and classical equations of motion are obtained from the super-Wheeler-DeWitt equation through the usual WKB method. The resulting supersymmetric Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations contain extra radiation and stiff matter terms, and we study their solutions in flat space for different scalar field potentials. The solutions are compared to the standard case, in particular those corresponding to the exponential potential, and their implications for the dynamics of the early Universe are discussed in turn.

Coincident Frequencies and Relative Phases Among Female-Brain Signals and Progesterone-Estrogen levels

Fourier transform has become a basic tool for analyzing biological signals 1,2,3. Mostly a fast Fourier transform is computed for a finite sequence of data sample 4. This is the standard way apparatuses and modern computerized technology provide information, according with their frequency range, of the well known brain signals Delta, Theta, Alpha 1, Alpha 2, Beta 1 and Beta 2 furnishing experts with electroencephalographic (EEG) profile of clinical use obtained from these short periods 5,6. For long periods, an analogous novel procedure is established as follows: Assigning certain numerical value, i.e., the absolute power, to each brain signal at certain sampling times, generates data that can be interpolated and extrapolated through a long period, yielding an absolute power function of time for each signal 7. A further Fourier transform is then performed8,9, to analyze these new functions, finding typical frequencies and their corresponding periods for each one of these signals and, also, relative phases for coincident periods between two or more signals. Our procedure of analysis presented here can be applied, in principle, to any biological signal of interest.

Oscillatons formed by non linear gravity

Oscillatons are solutions of the coupled Einstein-Klein-Gordon (EKG) equations that are globally regular and asymptotically flat. By means of a Legendre transformation we are able to visualize the behaviour of the corresponding objects in non-linear gravity where the scalar field has been absorbed by means of the conformal mapping.

Regular non-twisting S-branes

We construct a family of time and angular dependent, regular S-brane solutions which corresponds to a simple analytical continuation of the Zipoy-Voorhees 4-dimensional vacuum spacetime. The solutions are asymptotically flat and turn out to be free of singularities without requiring a twist in space. They can be considered as the simplest non-singular generalization of the singular S0-brane solution. We analyze the properties of a representative of this family of solutions and show that it resembles to some extent the asymptotic properties of the regular Kerr S-brane. The R-symmetry corresponds, however, to the general Lorentzian symmetry. Several generalizations of this regular solution are derived which include a charged S-brane and an additional dilatonic field.

Time and "angular" dependent backgrounds from stationary axisymmetric solutions

Backgrounds depending on time and on "angular" variable, namely polarized and unpolarized $S^1 \times S^2$ Gowdy models, are generated as the sector inside the horizons of the manifold corresponding to axisymmetric solutions. As is known, an analytical continuation of ordinary $D$-branes, $iD$-branes allows one to find $S$-brane solutions. Simple models have been constructed by means of analytic continuation of the Schwarzchild and the Kerr metrics. The possibility of studying the $i$-Gowdy models obtained here is outlined with an eye toward seeing if they could represent some kind of generalized $S$-branes depending not only on time but also on an ``angular'' variable.

Towards the entropy of gravity time-dependent models via the Cardy-Verlinde formula

For models with several time-dependent components generalized entropies can be defined. This is shown for the Bianchi type IX model. We first derive the Cardy-Verlinde formula under the assumption that the first law of thermodynamics is valid. This leads to an explicit expression of the total entropy associated with this type of universes. Assuming the validity of the Cardy entropy formula, we obtain expressions for the corresponding Bekenstein, Bekenstein-Hawking and Hubble entropies. We discuss the validity of the Cardy-Verlinde formula and possible extensions of the outlined procedure to other time-dependent models.

Cosmological constant and Brane New World

The estimation of the cosmological constant in inflationary Brane New World models is done. It is shown that basically it is quite large, of the same order as in anomaly-driven inflation. However, for some fine-tuning of bulk gravitational constant and AdS scale parameter $l^2$ it may be reduced to sufficiently small value. Bulk higher derivative AdS gravity with quantum brane matter may also serve as the model where small positive cosmological constant occurs.

Quantum bounds for gravitational de Sitter entropy and the Cardy-Verlinde formula

We analyze different types of quantum corrections to the Cardy-Verlinde entropy formula in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe and in an (anti)-de Sitter space. In all cases we show that quantum corrections can be represented by an effective cosmological constant which is then used to redefine the parameters entering the Cardy-Verlinde formula so that it becomes valid also with quantum corrections, a fact that we interpret as a further indication of its universality. A proposed relation between Cardy-Verlinde formula and the ADM Hamiltonian constraint is given.

String versus Einstein frame in an AdS/CFT induced quantum dilatonic brane-world universe

AdS/CFT induced quantum dilatonic brane-world where 4d boundary is flat or de Sitter (inflationary) or Anti-de Sitter brane is considered. The classical brane tension is fixed but boundary QFT produces the effective brane tension via the account of corresponding conformal anomaly induced effective action. This results in inducing of brane-worlds in accordance with AdS/CFT set-up as warped compactification. The explicit, independent construction of quantum induced dilatonic brane-worlds in two frames: string and Einstein one is done. It is demonstrated their complete equivalency for all quantum cosmological brane-worlds under discussion, including several examples of classical brane-world black holes. This is different from quantum corrected 4d dilatonic gravity where de Sitter solution exists in Einstein but not in Jordan (string) frame. The role of quantum corrections on massive graviton perturbations around Anti-de Sitter brane is briefly discussed.

(Non)-singular brane-world cosmology induced by quantum effects in d5 dilatonic gravity

5d dilatonic gravity (bosonic sector of gauged supergravity) with non-trivial bulk potential and with surface terms (boundary cosmological constant and trace anomaly induced effective action for brane quantum matter) is considered. For constant bulk potential and maximally SUSY Yang-Mills theory (CFT living on the brane) the inflationary brane-world is constructed. The bulk is singular asymptotically AdS space with non-constant dilaton and dilatonic de Sitter or hyperbolic brane is induced by quantum matter effects. At the same time, dilaton on the brane is determined dynamically. This all is natural realization of warped compactification in AdS/CFT correspondence. For fine-tuned toy example of non-constant bulk potential we found the non-singular dilatonic brane-world where bulk again represents asymptotically AdS space and de Sitter brane (inflationary phase of observable Universe) is induced exclusively by quantum effects. The radius of the brane and dilaton are determined dynamically. The analytically solvable example of exponential bulk potential leading to singular asymptotically AdS dilatonic bulk space with de Sitter (or hyperbolic) brane is also presented. In all cases under discussion the gravity on the brane is trapped via Randall-Sundrum scenario. It is shown that qualitatively the same types of brane-worlds occur when quantum brane matter is described by $N$ dilaton coupled spinors.

Dilatonic Brane-World Black Holes, Gravity Localization and Newton Constant

The family of brane-world solutions of d+1-dimensional dilatonic gravity is presented. It includes flat brane with small cosmological constant and (anti) de Sitter brane, dilatonic brane-world black holes (Schwarzschild-(anti-) de Sitter, Kerr, etc). Gravitational and dilatonic perturbations around such branes are found. It is shown that near dilatonic brane-world black hole the gravity may be localized in a standard form. The brane corrections to Newton law are estimated. The proposal to take into account the dilaton coupled brane matter quantum effects is made. The corresponding effective action changes the structure of 4d de Sitter wall. RG flow of four-dimensional Newton constant in IR and UV is briefly discussed.

A family of exact solutions for unpolarized Gowdy models

Unpolarized Gowdy models are inhomogeneous cosmological models that depend on time and one spatial variable and have complicated nonlinear equations of motion. There are two topologies associated with these models, a three-torus and a one-sphere cross a two-sphere. The three-torus models have been used for numerical studies because it seems difficult to find analytic solutions to their nonlinear Einstein equations. The one-sphere cross tow-sphere models have even more complicated equations, but at least one family of analytic solutions can be given as a reinterpretation of known solutions. Various properties of this family of solutions are studied.

Towards a loop representation for quantum canonical supergravity

We study several aspects of the canonical quantization of supergravity in terms of the Asthekar variables. We cast the theory in terms of a $GSU(2)$ connection and we introduce a loop representation. The solution space is similar to the loop representation of ordinary gravity, the main difference being the form of the Mandelstam identities. Physical states are in general given by knot invariants that are compatible with the $GSU(2)$ Mandelstam identities. There is an explicit solution to all the quantum constraint equations connected with the Chern-Simons form, which coincides exactly with the Dubrovnik version of the Kauffman Polynomial. This provides for the first time the possibility of finding explicit analytic expressions for the coefficients of that knot polynomial.

No Quantum Super-Minisuperspace with $Λ\ne 0$

We show that the quantum super-minisuperspace of N=1 supergravity with $Λ\ne 0 $ has no non-trivial physical states for class A Bianchi models. Hence, in super quantum cosmology, the vanishing of $Λ$ is a condition for the existence of the universe. We argue that this result implies that in full supergravity with $Λ$ there are no non-trivial physical states with a finite number of fermionic fields. We use the Jacobson canonical formulation.
