Three-Operator Splitting Method with Two-Step Inertial Extrapolation

The aim of this paper is to study the weak convergence analysis of sequence of iterates generated by a three-operator splitting method of Davis and Yin incorporated with two-step inertial extrapolation for solving monotone inclusion problem involving the sum of two maximal monotone operators and a co-coercive operator in Hilbert spaces. Our results improve on the setbacks observed recently in the literature that one-step inertial Douglas-Rachford splitting method may fail to provide acceleration. Our convergence results also dispense with the summability conditions imposed on inertial parameters and the sequence of iterates assumed in recent results on multi-step inertial methods in the literature. Numerical illustrations from image restoration problem and Smoothly Clipped Absolute Deviation (SCAD) penalty problem are given to show the efficiency and advantage gained by incorporating two-step inertial extrapolation over one-step inertial extrapolation for three-operator splitting method.

A Robust Numerical Scheme for Solving Riesz-Tempered Fractional Reaction-Diffusion Equations

The Fractional Diffusion Equation (FDE) is a mathematical model that describes anomalous transport phenomena characterized by non-local and long-range dependencies which deviate from the traditional behavior of diffusion. Solving this equation numerically is challenging due to the need to discretize complicated integral operators which increase the computational costs. These complexities are exacerbated by nonlinear source terms, nonsmooth data and irregular domains. In this study, we propose a second order Exponential Time Differencing Finite Element Method (ETD-RDP-FEM) to efficiently solve nonlinear FDE, posed in irregular domains. This approach discretizes matrix exponentials using a rational function with real and distinct poles, resulting in an L-stable scheme that damps spurious oscillations caused by non-smooth initial data. The method is shown to outperform existing second-order methods for FDEs with a higher accuracy and faster computational time.

Convergence Results of Two-Step Inertial Proximal Point Algorithm

This paper proposes a two-point inertial proximal point algorithm to find zero of maximal monotone operators in Hilbert spaces. We obtain weak convergence results and non-asymptotic $O(1/n)$ convergence rate of our proposed algorithm in non-ergodic sense. Applications of our results to various well-known convex optimization methods, such as the proximal method of multipliers and the alternating direction method of multipliers are given. Numerical results are given to demonstrate the accelerating behaviors of our method over other related methods in the literature.

Inverse source in two-parameter anomalous diffusion, numerical algorithms and simulations over graded time-meshes

We consider an inverse source two-parameter sub-diffusion model subject to a nonlocal initial condition. The problem models several physical processes, among them are the microwave heating and light propagation in photoelectric cells. A bi-orthogonal pair of bases is employed to construct a series representation of the solution and a Volterra integral equation for the source term. We develop a numerical algorithm for approximating the unknown time-dependent source term. Due to the singularity of the solution near $t=0$, a graded mesh is used to improve the convergence rate. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the expected analytical order of convergence.

Iterative Methods for Solving Fourth and Sixth Order Time-fractional Cahn-Hillard Equation

This paper presents analytical-approximate solutions of the time-fractional Cahn-Hilliard (TFCH) equations of fourth and sixth-order using the new iterative method (NIM) and q-homotopy analysis method (q-HAM). We obtained convergent series solutions using these iterative methods. The simplicity and accuracy of these methods in solving strongly nonlinear fractional differential equations is displayed through the examples provided. In the case where exact solution exists, error estimates are also investigated.

An inverse source problem for a two-parameter anomalous diffusion with local time datum

We determine the space-dependent source term for a two-parameter fractional diffusion problem subject to nonlocal non-self-adjoint boundary conditions and two local time-distinct datum. A bi-orthogonal pair of bases is used to construct a series representation of the solution and the source term. The two local time conditions spare us from measuring the fractional integral initial conditions commonly associated with fractional derivatives. On the other hand, they lead to delicate $2\times 2$ linear systems for the Fourier coefficients of the source term and of the fractional integral of the solution at $t=0$. The asymptotic behavior and estimates of the generalized Mittag-Leffler function are used to establish the solvability of these linear systems, and to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of our construction. Analytical and numerical examples are provided.
