On Centrally Essential Subrings of Formal Triangular Matrix Rings

A ring $R$ with a non-zero identity element is said to be centrally essential if for any non-zero element $a\in R$, there exist non-zero central elements $x,y\in R$ such that $ax = y$. We describe centrally essential rings in a large subclass of formal triangular matrix rings and in a subclass of the matrix ring $M_3(R)$ over the ring $R$.

Extensions of Centrally Essential Rings

A non-zero unital ring $R$ is said to be centrally essential if for every nonzero element $a$ of $R$, there exist non-zero central elements $x$ and $y$ with $ax = y$. In the paper, almost fully prime centrally essential rings are described in terms of ideal extensions, centrally essential Dorroh extensions, and trivial extensions.

Completely Centrally Essential Rings

A ring $R$ is said to be centrally essential if for every its non-zero element $a$, there exist non-zero central elements $x$ and $y$ with $ax = y$. A ring $R$ is said to be completely centrally essential if all its factor rings are centrally essential rings. It is proved that completely centrally essential semiprimary rings are Lie nilpotent; noetherian completely centrally essential rings are strongly Lie nilpotent (in particular, every such a ring is a $PI$-ring). Every completely centrally essential ring has the classical ring of fractions which is a completely centrally essential ring. If $R$ is a commutative domain and $G$ is an arbitrary group, then any completely centrally essential group ring $RG$ is commutative.

On Centrally Essential Rings

A ring $R$ with center $C$ is said to be centrally essential if the module $R_C$ is an essential extension of the module $C_C$. In this paper, we study properties of ideals of centrally essential rings, centrally essential quaternion algebras, and group rings of Hamiltonian groups.

Centrally Essential Factor Rings and Subdirect Indecomposability

Let $R$ be a ring and let $J(R)$, $C(R)$ be its Jacobson radical and center, correspondingly. If $R$ is a centrally essential ring and the factor ring $R/J(R)$ is commutative, then any minimal right ideal is contained in the center $C(R)$. A right Artinian (or right Noetherian subdirectly indecomposable) centrally essential ring is a right and left Artinian local ring. We describe centrally essential Noetherian subdirectly indecomposable rings and centrally essential rings with subdirectly indecomposable center. We give examples of non-commutative subdirectly indecomposable, centrally essential rings. Centrally Essential Semigroup Algebras

For a cancellative semigroup S and a field F, it is proved that the semigroup algebra FS is centrally essential if and only if the group of fractions $G_S$ of the semigroup $S$ exists and the group algebra $FG_S$ of $G_S$ is centrally essential. The semigroup algebra of a cancellative semigroup is centrally essential if and only if it has the classical right ring of fractions which is a centrally essential ring. There exist non-commutative centrally essential semigroup algebras over fields of zero characteristic (this contrasts with the known fact that centrally essential group algebras over fields of zero characteristic are commutative).

Centrally Essential Semirings

A semiring is said to be centrally essential if for every non-zero element $x$, there exist two non-zero central elements $y, z$ with $xy = z$. We give some examples of non-commutative centrally essential semirings and describe some properties of additively cancellative centrally essential semirings.

Ideals and Factor Rings of Centrally Essential Rings

It is proved that the ring $R$ with center $Z(R)$, such that the module $R_{Z(R)}$ is an essential extension of the module $Z(R)_{Z(R)}$, is not necessarily right quasi-invariant, i.e., maximal right ideals of the ring $R$ are not necessarily ideals. We use central essentiality to obtain conditions which are sufficient to the property that all maximal right ideals are ideals

Centrally Essential Torsion-Free Rings of Finite Rank

It is proved that centrally essential rings, whose additive groups of finite rank are torsion-free groups of finite rank, are quasi-invariant but not necessarily invariant. Torsion-free Abelian groups of finite rank with centrally essential endomorphism rings are faithful. The paper will appear in Beiträge zur Algebra und Geometrie / Contributions to Algebra and Geometry.

Centrally Essential Endomorphism Rings of Abelian Groups

We study Abelian groups $A$ with centrally essential endomorphism ring $\text{End}\,A$. If $A$ is a such group which is either a torsion group or a non-reduced group, then the ring $\text{End}\,A$ is commutative. We give examples of Abelian torsion-free groups of finite rank with non-commutative centrally essential endomorphism rings. The paper will appear in Communications in Algebra.
