Visible and Invisible Pseudoscalar Meson Decays from Anomaly Sum Rules

The decays of pseudoscalar mesons to real and virtual photons as well as neutrino-antineutrino pairs are considered in the framework of the dispersive method based on Anomaly Sum Rules. The contribution of singlet channel involving the new non-perturbative gluon form factor of virtual photon $B(q^2)$ is systematically taken into account. The detailed analysis of its dependence on photon virtuality $q^2$ relying on the available data for meson transition fomfactors is performed. It is shown that B has quite a nontrivial structure at $q^2 \sim 1 GeV^2$ which may be a signal of the existence of pseudoscalar glueball with a mass about 1.5-2 GeV. The calculation of the decay to $\nu \bar \nu$ pairs leads to the compatibility with the result of Arnellos, Marciano and Parsa of 1982, when pion decay is considered neglecting the mixing effects. The account for these effects results, however, in the enhancement of pion branching ratio by a factor of 3, while that for eta decay is larger by several orders of magnitude. It is stressed, that dependence on the pair invariant mass is entirely defined by QCD and coincides with that of the meson transition form factor. The role of obtained results for the physics at HHaS detector at HIAF is discussed.

Scalar decay into pions via Higgs portal

In extensions of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics a light scalar from a hidden sector can interact with known particles via mixing with the SM Higgs boson. If the scalar mass is of GeV scale, this coupling induces the scalar decay into light hadrons, that saturates the scalar width. Searches for the light scalars are performed in many ongoing experiments and planned for the next generation projects. Applying dispersion relations changes the leading order estimate of the scalar decay rate into pions by a factor of about a hundred indicating the strong final state interaction. This subtlety for about thirty years prevented any reliable inference of the model parameters from experimental data. In this Letter we use the gravitational form factor for neutral pion extracted from analysis of $γ^*γ\toπ^0π^0$ processes to estimate the quark contribution to scalar decay into two pions. We find a factor of two uncertainty in this estimate and argue that the possible gluon contribution is of the same order. The decay rate to pions smoothly matches that to gluons dominating for heavier scalars. With this finding we refine sensitivities of future projects to the scalar-Higgs mixing. The accuracy in the calculations can be further improved by performing similar analysis of $γ^*γ\to K K$ and $γ^*γ\toηη$ processes and possibly decays like $J/ψ\toγ+ππ$.

Time-like Gravitational Formfactors and Shear Viscosity

The gravitational formfactor similar to shear viscosity is identified. In the time-like region it corresponds to the contribution of exotic hybrid meson. The exotic quantum numbers may be considered as a counterpart of dissipation in crossed channel. The ratio of viscosity to entropy density is estimated. The smallness due to holographic bound corresponds to the relative smallness of coupling of hybrid meson and the intrinsic transverse momentum, being the dynamical counterpart of temperature.

Velocity-like maximum polarization: irreversibility and quantum measurements

The polarization emerging in the subsequent scattering processes can never exceed $1$ which corresponds to the fully polarized pure state. This property is shown to be provided by the addition rule similar to that for relativistic velocities never exceeding the speed of light. The cases of spin $1/2$ and $1$ are considered. The photon linear polarization in Thomson scattering is monotonically increasing. This directness is shown to be a consequence of spin measurement procedure and may be the particular example of ithe anticipated relation between quantum measurement and time irreversibility. The emergent polarization may be considered as a case of opposing time's arrows corresponding to microscopic (spin) and macroscopic (momentum) degrees of freedom, respectively.

Prospects for quarkonium studies at the high-luminosity LHC

Prospects for quarkonium-production studies accessible during the upcoming high-luminosity phases of the CERN Large Hadron Collider operation after 2021 are reviewed. Current experimental and theoretical open issues in the field are assessed together with the potential for future studies in quarkonium-related physics. This will be possible through the exploitation of the huge data samples to be collected in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, both in the collider and fixed-target modes. Such investigations include, among others, those of: (i) J/psi and Upsilon produced in association with other hard particles; (ii) chi(c,b) and eta(c,b) down to small transverse momenta; (iii) the constraints brought in by quarkonia on gluon PDFs, nuclear PDFs, TMDs, GPDs and GTMDs, as well as on the low-x parton dynamics; (iv) the gluon Sivers effect in polarised-nucleon collisions; (v) the properties of the quark-gluon plasma produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions and of collective partonic effects in general; and (vi) double and triple parton scatterings.

Non-Abelian axial anomaly, axial-vector duality, and the pseudoscalar glueball

We generalize the dispersive approach to axial anomaly by A.D. Dolgov and V.I. Zakharov to a non-Abelian case with arbitrary photon virtualites. We derive the anomaly sum rule for the singlet current and obtain the $π^0,η,η'\rightarrowγγ^*$ transition form factors. Using them, we established the behavior of a nonperturbative gluon matrix element $\langle 0 |G\tilde{G} |γγ^*(q^2) \rangle$ in both spacelike and timelike regions. We found a significant contribution of the non-Abelian axial anomaly to the processes with one virtual photon, comparable to that of the electromagnetic anomaly. The duality between the axial and the vector channels was observed: the values of duality intervals and mixing parameters in the axial channel were related to vector resonances' masses and residues. The possibility of a light pseudoscalar glueball-like state is conjectured.

Lepton angular distribution of $W$ boson productions

The lepton angular distribution coefficients $A_i$ for $Z$ boson production in $pp$ and $\bar p p$ collisions have been measured at the LHC and the Tevatron. A recent study showed that many features of the measured angular distribution coefficients, including the transverse momentum ($q_T$) and rapidity dependencies and the violation of the Lam-Tung relation, can be well described using an intuitive geometric approach. In this paper, we extend this geometric approach to describe the angular distribution coefficients for $W$ boson produced in $\bar{p} p$ collisions at the Tevatron. We first compare the data with a perturbative QCD calculation at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$. We then show that the data and QCD calculations can be well described with the geometric approach. Implications for future studies at the LHC energy are also discussed.

QCD effects in lepton angular distributions of Drell-Yan/$Z$ production and jet discrimination

We present a comparison of data of lepton angular distributions of Drell-Yan/$Z$ production with the fixed-order pQCD calculations by which the baseline of pQCD effects is illustrated. As for the $Z$ production, we predict that $A_0$ and $A_2$ for $Z$ plus single gluon-jet events are very different from that of $Z$ plus single quark-jet events, allowing a new experimental tool for checking various algorithms which attempt to discriminate quark jets from gluon jets. Using an intuitive geometric approach, we show that the violation of the Lam-Tung relation, appearing at large transverse-momentum region, is attributed to the presence of a non-coplanarity effect. This interpretation is consistent with the appearance of violation beyond LO-QCD effect.

Lepton angular distributions of Drell-Yan process in pQCD and a geometric approach

The lepton angular distributions of the Drell-Yan process in the fixed-target experiments are investigated by NLO and NNLO perturbative QCD. We present the calculated angular parameters $λ$, $μ$, $ν$ and the degree of violation of the Lam-Tung relation, $1-λ-2ν$, for the E615 experiment as well as predictions for the COMPASS experiment. Many salient features of transverse momentum and rapidity dependence could be qualitatively understood by a geometric approach.

Lepton angular distribution of Z boson production and jet discrimination

High precision data of lepton angular distributions in inclusive $Z$ boson production, reported by the CMS and ATLAS Collaborations, showed pronounced transverse momentum ($q_T$) dependencies of the $A_0$ and $A_2$ coefficients. Violation of the Lam-Tung relation, $A_0 = A_2$, was also found. An intuitive understanding of these results can be obtained from a geometric approach. We predict that $A_0$ and $A_2$ for $Z$ plus single gluon-jet events are very different from that of $Z$ plus single quark-jet events, allowing a new experimental tool for checking various algorithms which attempt to discriminate quark jets from gluon jets. We also predict that the Lam-Tung relation would be more severely violated for the $Z$ plus multiple-jet data than what has been observed so far for inclusive $Z$ production data. These predictions can be readily tested using existing LHC data.

Lepton angular distributions of fixed-target Drell-Yan experiments in perturbative QCD and a geometric approach

The lepton angular distributions of the Drell-Yan process in fixed-target experiments are investigated by NLO and NNLO perturbative QCD. We present the calculated angular parameters $λ$, $μ$, $ν$ and the degree of violation of the Lam-Tung relation, $1-λ-2ν$, for the NA10, E615 and E866 experiments. Predictions for the ongoing COMPASS and SeaQuest experiments are also presented. The transverse momentum ($q_T$) distributions of $λ$ and $ν$ show a clear dependence on the dimuon mass ($Q$) while those of $μ$ have a strong rapidity ($x_F$) dependence. Furthermore, $λ$ and $ν$ are found to scale with $q_T/Q$. These salient features could be qualitatively understood by a geometric approach where the lepton angular distribution parameters are expressed in terms of the polar and azimuthal angles of the "natural axis" in the dilepton rest frame.

Rotation-invariant observables as Density Matrix invariants

It is shown that general dilepton angular distribution (with parity violating terms taking into account) in vector particle decays can be described through a set of five SO(3) rotational-invariant observables. These observables are derived as invariants of the spacial part of the hadronic tensor (density matrix) expressed in terms of angular coefficients. The restrictions on the invariants following from the positivity of the hadronic tensor are obtained. Special cases of SO(2) rotations are considered. Calculation of invariants for available data on Z and J/ψ decays is performed.

On the Rotational Invariance and Non-Invariance of Lepton Angular Distributions in Drell-Yan and Quarkonium Production

Several rotational invariant quantities for the lepton angular distributions in Drell-Yan and quarkonium production were derived several years ago, allowing the comparison between different experiments adopting different reference frames. Using an intuitive picture for describing the lepton angular distribution in these processes, we show how the rotational invariance of these quantities can be readily obtained. This approach can also be used to determine the rotational invariance or non-invariance of various quantities specifying the amount of violation for the Lam-Tung relation. While the violation of the Lam-Tung relation is often expressed by frame-dependent quantities, we note that alternative frame-independent quantities are preferred.

Dispersive approach to non-Abelian axial anomaly

Manifestations of strong and electromagnetic axial anomalies in two-photon decays of $η$ and $η'$ mesons are studied. Applying dispersive approach to axial anomaly in the singlet current, we obtain an anomaly sum rule containing strong and electromagnetic anomaly contributions. The relevant low energy theorem was generalized to the case of mixed states and used to evaluate the subtraction constant of the strong anomaly-related form factor $\langle 0 |G\tilde{G} |γγ\rangle$. We made a numerical estimation of the contributions of gluon and electromagnetic anomalies to the two-photon decays of $η$ and $η'$ mesons and found significant suppression of the gluon anomaly contribution.

Hyperon polarization in Heavy-Ion Collisions and gravity-related anomaly

We study the energy dependence of global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in peripheral $Au-Au$ collisions. We combine the calculation of vorticity and strange chemical potential in the framework of kinetic Quark-Gluon String Model with the anomalous mechanism related to axial vortical effect. The earlier found effect of helicity separation implies the quadrupole structure of longitudinal vorticity. We pay special attention to the temperature dependent contribution related to gravitational anomaly and found that the preliminary RHIC data are compatible with its suppression discovered earlier in lattice calculations. The antihyperons polarization is excessing that of hyperons and the difference is more pronounced at smaller energies.

Accessing the gluon Wigner distribution in ultraperipheral $pA$ collisions

We propose to constrain the gluon Wigner distribution in the nucleon by studying the exclusive diffractive dijet production process in ultraperipheral proton-nucleus collisions (UPCs) at RHIC and the LHC. Compared to the previous proposal in Ref. [Y. Hatta, B. W. Xiao, and F. Yuan, Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 202301 (2016).] to study the same observable in lepton-nucleon scattering, the use of UPCs has a few advantages: not only is the cross section larger, but the extraction of the Wigner distribution from the data also becomes simpler, including its elliptic angular dependence. We compute the corresponding cross section and evaluate the coefficients using models which include the gluon saturation effects. A potential for the measurements of the Wigner distribution at current and future experimental facilities is also discussed.

Dependencies of Lepton Angular Distribution Coefficients on the Transverse Momentum and Rapidity of$Z$ Bosons Produced in $pp$ Collisions at LHC

High precision data of lepton angular distributions for $γ^*/Z$ production in $pp$ collisions at the LHC, covering broad ranges of dilepton transverse momenta ($q_T$) and rapidity ($y$), were recently reported. Strong $q_T$ dependencies were observed for several angular distribution coefficients, $A_i$, including $A_0 - A_4$. Significant $y$ dependencies were also found for the coefficients $A_1$, $A_3$ and $A_4$, while $A_0$ and $A_2$ exhibit very weak rapidity dependence. Using an intuitive geometric picture we show that the $q_T$ and $y$ dependencies of the angular distributions coefficients can be well described.

Anomalous current from covariant Wigner functions

We consider accelerated and rotating media of weakly interacting fermions in local thermodynamic equilibrium. Kinetic properties of this media are described by covariant Wigner function calculated on the basis of relativistic distribution function of particles with spin. We obtain the formulae for axial current beyond the approximation of smallness of thermal vorticity tensor and chemical potential and calculate its divergence. In the massless limit higher order terms in vorticity and chemical potential compensate each other with only the low-order contributions surviving. It is shown, that axial current gets a topological component along the 4-acceleration vector. The similarity between different approaches to baryon polarisation is established.
