Stochastic Optimal Control for Jump Diffusion Models with Singular Drifts

We study a stochastic optimal control problem for jump-diffusion systems whose drift coefficient is piecewise Lipschitz continuous and exhibits threshold-induced discontinuities. Such dynamics naturally arise in applications with intervention policies triggered by safety levels, notably in insurance surplus management with dividend payments and capital injections. These features place the problem outside the scope of classical stochastic maximum principle (SMP) results, which rely on global smoothness assumptions. We establish both necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for this class of control problems. Our approach combines a Sobolev-type representation of the first variation process with smooth approximations and Ekeland's variational principle. As application, we study an optimal premium adjustment and reserve management policies for an insurance whose surplus is modelled by threshold-based dividend and capital injection policies.

Path-by-path uniqueness of multidimensional SDE's on the plane with nondecreasing coefficients

In this paper we study path-by-path uniqueness for multidimensional stochastic differential equations driven by the Brownian sheet. We assume that the drift coefficient is unbounded, verifies a spatial linear growth condition and is componentwise nondeacreasing. Our approach consists of showing the result for bounded and componentwise nondecreasing drift using both a local time-space representation and a law of iterated logarithm for Brownian sheets. The desired result follows using a Gronwall type lemma on the plane. As a by product, we obtain the existence of a unique strong solution of multidimensional SDEs driven by the Brownian sheet when the drift is non-decreasing and satisfies a spatial linear growth condition.

Impact of imperfect vaccine, vaccine trade-off and population turnover on infectious disease dynamics

Vaccination is essential for the management of infectious diseases, many of which continue to pose devastating public health and economic challenges across the world. However, many vaccines are imperfect having only a partial protective effect in decreasing disease transmission and/or favouring recovery of infected individuals, and possibly exhibiting trade-off between these two properties. Furthermore, population turnover, that is the rate at which individuals enter and exit the population, is another key factor determining the epidemiological dynamics. While these factors have yet been studied separately, we investigate the interplay between the efficiency and property of an imperfect vaccine and population turnover. We build a mathematical model with frequency incidence rate, a recovered compartment, and an heterogeneous host population with respect to vaccination. We first compute the basic reproduction number $\mathcal{R}_0$ and study the global stability of the equilibrium points. Using a sensitivity analysis, we then assess the most influential parameters determining the total number of infected and $\mathcal{R}_0$ over time. We derive analytically and numerically conditions for the vaccination coverage and efficiency to achieve disease eradication ($\mathcal{R}_0 < 1$) assuming different intensity of the population turnover (weak and strong), vaccine properties (transmission and/or recovery) and trade-off between the latter. We show that the minimum vaccination coverage increases with lower population turnover, decreases with higher vaccine efficiency (transmission or recovery), and is increased/decreased by up to 15\% depending on the trade-off between the vaccine properties. We conclude that the coverage target for vaccination campaigns should be evaluated based on the interplay between these factors.

Maximum principle for stochastic control of SDEs with measurable drifts

In this paper, we consider stochastic optimal control of systems driven by stochastic differential equations with irregular drift coefficient. We establish a necessary and sufficient stochastic maximum principle. To achieve this, we first derive an explicit representation of the first variation process (in Sobolev sense ) of the controlled diffusion. Since the drift coefficient is not smooth, the representation is given in terms of the local time of the state process. Then we construct a sequence of optimal control problems with smooth coefficients by an approximation argument. Finally, we use Ekeland's variational principle to obtain an approximating adjoint process from which we derive the maximum principle by passing to the limit.

Strong solutions of forward-backward stochastic differential equations with measurable coefficients

This paper investigates solvability of fully coupled systems of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) with irregular coefficients. In particular, we assume that the coefficients of the FBSDEs are merely measurable and bounded in the forward process. We crucially use compactness results from the theory of Malliavin calculus to construct strong solutions. Despite the irregularity of the coefficients, the solutions turn out to be differentiable, at least in the Malliavin sense and, as functions of the initial variable, in the Sobolev sense.

Strong solutions of some one-dimensional SDEs with random and unbounded drifts

In this paper, we are interested in the following one dimensional forward stochastic differential equation (SDE) \[ d X_{t}=b(t,X_{t},ω)d t +σd B_{t},\quad 0\leq t\leq T,\quad X_{0}=\,x\in \mathbb{R}, \] where the driving noise $B_{t}$ is a $d$-dimensional Brownian motion. The drift coefficient $b:[0,T] \timesΩ\times \mathbb{R}\longrightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is Borel measurable and can be decomposed into a deterministic and a random part, i.e., $b(t,x,ω) = b_1(t,x) + b_2(t,x,ω)$. Assuming that $b_1$ is of spacial linear growth and $b_2$ satisfies some integrability conditions, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of a strong solution. The method we use is purely probabilitic and relies on Malliavin calculus. As byproducts, we obtain Malliavin differentiability of the solutions, provide an explicit representation for the Malliavin derivative and prove existence of weighted Sobolev differentiable flows.

Pathwise uniqueness of non-uniformly elliptic SDEs with rough coefficients

In this paper we review and improve pathwise uniqueness results for some types of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations (SDE) involving the local time of the unknown process. The diffusion coefficient of the SDEs we consider is allowed to vanish on a set of positive measure and is not assumed to be smooth. As opposed to various existing results, our arguments are mainly based on the comparison theorem for local time and the occupation time formula. We apply our pathwise uniqueness results to derive strong existence and other properties of solutions for SDEs with rough coefficients.

Viscosity Solution for Optimal Stopping Problems of Feller Processes

We study an optimal stopping problem when the state process is governed by a general Feller process. In particular, we examine viscosity properties of the associated value function with no a priori assumption on the stochastic differential equation satisfied by the state process. Our approach relies on properties of the Feller semigroup. We present conditions on the state process under which the value function is the unique viscosity solution to an Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation associated with a particular operator. More specifically, assuming that the state process is a Feller process, we prove uniqueness of the viscosity solution which was conjectured in [26]. We then apply our results to study viscosity property of optimal stopping problems for some particular Feller processes, namely diffusion processes with piecewise coefficients and semi-Markov processes. Finally, we obtain explicit value functions for optimal stopping of straddle options, when the state process is a reflected Brownian motion, Brownian motion with jump at boundary and regime switching Feller diffusion, respectively (see Section 8).
