Low-Latency Digital Downconversion for Control Applications

The slowly varying complex envelope of sinusoidal signals can be estimated in real-time using digital downconversion. In this paper, we discuss the requirements on digital downconversion for control applications. Two low-latency downconversion filters are compared with respect to performance and implementation aspects.

Modeling same-order modes of multicell cavities

We derive the transfer function of a multicell cavity with parasitic same-order modes (from power coupler to pickup probe). The derived model is discussed and compared to measurement data.

Energy-based parameterization of accelerating-mode dynamics

We propose a parameterization of the accelerating-mode dynamics of accelerating cavities in terms of energy, power, and current. This parameterization avoids many confusing features of the popular equivalent-circuit-based parameterization where a fictitious generator current is introduced. To further simplify analysis and understanding of the accelerating-mode dynamics we also propose a convenient normalization and use phasor diagrams for illustrations.

Five-Full-Block Structured Singular Values of Real Matrices Equal Their Upper Bounds

We show that the structured singular value of a real matrix with respect to five full complex uncertainty blocks equals its convex upper bound. This is done by formulating the equality conditions as a feasibility SDP and invoking a result on the existence of a low-rank solution. A counterexample is given for the case of six uncertainty blocks. Known results are also revisited using the proposed approach.

A Refined Algorithm for Curve Fitting by Segmented Straight Lines

We consider least squares approximation of a function of one variable by a continuous, piecewise-linear approximand that has a small number of breakpoints. This problem was notably considered by Bellman who proposed an approximate algorithm based on dynamic programming. Many suboptimal approaches have been suggested, but so far, the only exact methods resort to mixed integer programming with superpolynomial complexity growth. In this paper, we present an exact and efficient algorithm based on dynamic programming with a hybrid value function. The achieved time-complexity seems to be polynomial.
