Scattering of kinks in Frankensteinian potentials: Kinks as bubbles of exotic mass and phase transitions in oscillon production

We present a dynamical picture of kink-anti-kink scattering in a pair of special, Frankensteinian potentials made of piece-wise quadratic and linear pieces. Specifically, we focus on models that support kinks without skin and core regions. We propose an intuitive interpretation for these models as being essentially free massive theories with a built-in particle-pair like production mechanism that enters into the dynamics above certain field-value thresholds. We present results concerning the kink's characteristics depending on these thresholds and the distribution of bouncing windows. We show that the second model exhibits a phase-transition-like property in which the nature of collisions switches from disintegration into a massive wave to production of oscillons for large segments of initial velocities when the field threshold is low enough.

Scattering of kinks in coreless potentials

We explore the relevance of the central hill for a symmetric double-well potential and its impact on the scattering of kinks in a scalar field theory in (1+1)-dimensions. This region controls the inner core structure of the kink. We study how the disappearance of analyticity in this region of the potential affects the resonant features in $K\bar{K}$ scattering.

Mechanization of scalar field theory in (1+1)-dimensions: BPS mech-kinks and their scattering

We present an updated version of a general-purpose collective coordinate model that aims to fully map out the dynamics of a single scalar field in (1+1)-dimensions. This is achieved by a procedure that we call a `mechanization': we reduce the infinite number of degrees of freedom down to a finite and controllable number by chopping the field into flat segments connected via joints. In this paper, we introduce two new ingredients to our procedure. The first is a manifestly BPS mechanization in which BPS mech-kinks saturate the same bound on energy as their field-theoretical progenitors. The second is allowing the joints to `switch', leading to an extended concept of the effective Lagrangian, through which we describe direct collisions of mech-kinks and anti-kinks.

Mechanization of scalar field theory in 1+1 dimensions

The `mechanization' is a procedure of replacing a scalar field in 1+1 dimensions with a piece-wise linear function, i.e. a finite graph consisting of $N$ joints (vertices) and straight segments (edges). As a result, the field theory is approximated by a sequence of algebraically tractable, general-purpose collective coordinate mechanical models. We observe the step-by-step emergence of dynamical objects and associated phenomena as the $N$ increases. Mech-kinks and mech-oscillons -- mechanical analogs of kinks and oscillons (bions) -- appear in the simplest models, while more intricate dynamical patterns, such as bouncing phenomenon and bion pair-production, emerge gradually as decay states of high $N$ mech-oscillons.

Solitons in Peyrard-Bishop model of DNA and the Renormalization group method

We investigate solitons in Peyrard-Bishop model of DNA molecule using Renormalization group methods which provide a systematic way for perturbation analysis. Small amplitude expansion is carried out in both the continuous and discrete limits. We review exact solution for the continuous model. Further, we discuss reliability of the solitonic solutions and argue that the envelope should propagate with a group velocity contrary to previous proposals.
