Ricci-flat metrics from gauged linear $σ$-models without RG flow

We investigate a class of Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on generalized conifolds constructed via gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) with indefinite signature. By introducing shadow coordinates (superfields) entering the sigma model with negative signature kinetic term, we show that these GLSMs yield explicit Ricci-flat metrics on complex cones over products of projective spaces. We provide a general formula for the resulting Kähler potentials, along with detailed examples. Our results suggest new directions for the study of Calabi-Yau metrics and toric geometry, and raise interesting questions about the geometric meaning of indefinite signature models. We also give an interpretation in terms of a novel generalized Kähler gauging.

Exceptional algebroids and type IIA superstrings

We study exceptional algebroids in the context of warped compactifications of type IIA string theory down to $n$ dimensions, with $n\le 6$. In contrast to the M-theory and type IIB case, the relevant algebroids are no longer exact, and their locali moduli space is no longer trivial, but has $5$ distinct points. This relates to two possible scalar deformations of the IIA theory. The proof of the local classification shows that, in addition to these scalar deformations, one can twist the bracket using a pair of $1$-forms, a $2$-form, a $3$-form, and a $4$-form. Furthermore, we use the analysis to translate the classification of Leibniz parallelisable spaces (corresponding to maximally supersymmetric consistent truncations) into a tractable algebraic problem. We finish with a discussion of the Poisson-Lie U-duality and examples given by tori and spheres in $2$, $3$, and $4$ dimensions.

Y-algebroids and $E_{7(7)} \times \mathbb{R}^+$-generalised geometry

We define the notion of Y-algebroids, generalising the Lie, Courant, and exceptional algebroids that have been used to capture the local symmetry structure of type II string theory and M-theory compactifications to $D \geq 5$ dimensions. Instead of an invariant inner product, or its generalisation arising in exceptional algebroids, Y-algebroids are built around a specific type of tensor, denoted $Y$, that provides exactly the necessary properties to also describe compactifications to $D=4$ dimensions. We classify "M-exact" $E_7$-algebroids and show that this precisely matches the form of the generalised tangent space of $E_{7(7)} \times \mathbb{R}^+$-generalised geometry, with possible twists due to 1-, 4- and 7-form fluxes, corresponding physically to the derivative of the warp factor and the M-theory fluxes. We translate the notion of generalised Leibniz parallelisable spaces, relevant to consistent truncations, into this language, where they are mapped to so-called exceptional Manin pairs. We also show how to understand Poisson-Lie U-duality and exceptional complex structures using Y-algebroids.

BV Formalism and Partition Functions

The BV formalism is a well-established method for analyzing symmetries and quantization of field theories. In this paper we use the BV formalism to derive partition functions of gauge invariant operators up to equations of motions and their redundancies of selected theories. We discuss various interpretations of the results, some dualities and relation to first quantized models.

Current Algebra and Generalised Cartan Geometry

This article shows that the approach to generalised curvature and torsion pioneered by Polacek and Siegel [1] is a generalisation of Cartan Geometry -- rendering latter natural from the point of view of O(d,d)-generalised geometry. We present this approach in the generalised metric formalism and show that almost all parts of the additional higher generalised tensors appearing in this approach correspond to covariant derivatives of the generalised Riemann tensor. As an application, we use this framework to phrase sigma model dynamics in an explicitly covariant way -- both under generalised diffeomorphisms and local gauge transformations.

Non-Invertible T-duality at Any Radius via Non-Compact SymTFT

We extend the construction of the T-duality symmetry for the 2d compact boson to arbitrary values of the radius by including topological manipulations such as gauging continuous symmetries with flat connections. We show that the entire circle branch of the $c=1$ conformal manifold can be generated using these manipulations, resulting in a non-invertible T-duality symmetry when the gauging sends the radius to its inverse value. Using the recently proposed symmetry TFT describing continuous global symmetries of the boundary theory, we identify the topological operator corresponding to these new T-duality symmetries as an open condensation defect of the bulk theory, constructed by (higher) gauging an $\mathbb{R}$ subgroup of the bulk global symmetries. Notably, when the boundary theory is the compact boson with a rational square radius, this operator reduces to the familiar T-duality defect described by a Tambara-Yamagami fusion category. This construction thus naturally includes all possible discrete T-duality symmetries of the theory in a unified way.

Scale and Conformal Invariance on (A)dS

We examine the question of scale versus conformal invariance on maximally symmetric curved backgrounds and study general 2-derivative conformally invariant free theories of vectors and tensors. For spacetime dimension $D>4$, these conformal theories can be diagonalized into standard massive fields in which unbroken conformal symmetry non-trivially mixes components of different spins. In $D=4$, the tensor case becomes a conformal theory mixing a partially massless spin-2 field with a massless spin-1 field. For massless linearized gravity in $D = 4$, we confirm through direct calculation that correlation functions of gauge-invariant operators take the conformally invariant form, despite the absence of standard conformal symmetry at the level of the action.

Exploring duality symmetries, multicriticality and RG flows at $c = 2$

In this work, we study the realization of non-invertible duality symmetries along the toroidal branch of the $c=2$ conformal manifold. A systematic procedure to construct symmetry defects is implemented to show that all Rational Conformal Field Theories along this branch enjoy duality symmetries. Furthermore, we delve into an in-depth analysis of two representative cases of multicritical theories, were the toroidal branch meets various orbifold branches. For these particular examples, the categorical data and the defect Hilbert spaces associated to the duality symmetries are obtained by resorting to modular covariance. Finally, we study the interplay between these novel symmetries and the various exactly marginal and relevant deformations, including some representative examples of Renormalization Group flows where the infrared is constrained by the non-invertible symmetries and their anomalies.

On Superparticles and their Partition Functions

We describe a family of twisted partition functions for the relativistic spinning particle models. For suitable choices of fugacities this computes a refined Euler characteristics that counts the dimension of the physical states for arbitrary picture and, furthermore, encodes the complete BV-spectrum of the effective space-time gauge theory originating from this model upon second quantization. The relation between twisted world-line partition functions and the spectrum of the space-time theory is most easily seen on-shell but we will give an off-shell description as well. Finally we discuss the construction of a space-time action in terms of the world-line fields in analogy to string field theory.

Unifying Approaches to Chiral Bosons

Chiral bosons, or self-dual p-form fields, are ubiquitous in string theoretic contexts but are challenging to treat. Lagrangian constructions invariably introduce a complexity be it auxiliary fields or sacrificing Lorentz invariance. In this note we show how to pass between such different approaches to chiral bosons starting from a Chern Simons point of view to recover formulations of Pasti, Sorokin and Tonin and of Mkrtchyan. This leads to a novel generalisation of the latter to include non-Abelian chiral bosons in 2-dimensions, and generalisations to include twisted self-duality which are relevant in T-duality symmetric approaches to string theory. Our approach also shows how global affine symmetries of two- and higher-dimensional chiral bosons emerge from broken Chern-Simons gauge transformations on the boundary.

Super AKSZ construction, integral forms, and the 2-dimensional $\mathcal N=(1,1)$ sigma model

We discuss a natural extension of the AKSZ construction to the case where the source is given by a supermanifold with a chosen integral form. We then focus on the special case with the target given by a Courant algebroid. In the simplest case this leads to the BV version of the super Chern-Simons theory, as developed by Grassi-Maccaferri and Cremonini-Grassi. In the case of exact Courant algebroids we derive the 2-dimensional $\mathcal N=(1,1)$ sigma model on the boundary, together with the Wess-Zumino term, paralleling the approach of Ševera in the bosonic case.

Doubled space and extended supersymmetry

The doubled formulation of the worldsheet provides a description of string theory in which T-duality is promoted to a manifest symmetry. Here we extend this approach to $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ superspace providing a doubled formulation for bi-Hermitian/generalised Kähler target spaces. The theory is described by a single function, a doubled-generalised Kähler potential, supplemented with a manifestly $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ constraint. Several examples serve to illustrate this construction, including a discussion of the $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ description of T-folds.

Scale vs. Conformal Invariance at the IR Fixed Point of Quantum Gravity

We examine the question of scale vs. conformal invariance for the linearized Einstein-Hilbert action, which describes the IR fixed point of quantum gravity. In $D = 4$, although the action is not conformally invariant in the usual sense, we explicitly show that the theory is a conformal field theory at the level of correlation functions. In higher dimensions, we show that the theory is scale but not conformally invariant, but can be embedded into a larger non-unitary conformal field theory, analogous to what has been found for Maxwell theory in $D>4$. We give evidence that similar statements are true for all free higher spin theories.

Exceptional algebroids and type IIB superstrings

In this note we study exceptional algebroids, focusing on their relation to type IIB superstring theory. We show that a IIB-exact exceptional algebroid (corresponding to the group $E_{n(n)}\times \mathbb{R}^+$, for $n\le 6$) locally has a standard form given by the exceptional tangent bundle. We derive possible twists, given by a flat $\mathfrak{gl}(2,\mathbb{R})$-connection, a covariantly closed pair of 3-forms, and a 5-form, and comment on their physical interpretation. Using this analysis we reduce the search for Leibniz parallelisable spaces, and hence maximally supersymmetric consistent truncations, to a simple algebraic problem. We show that the exceptional algebroid perspective also gives a simple description of Poisson-Lie U-duality without spectators and hence of generalised Yang-Baxter deformations.

G-algebroids: a unified framework for exceptional and generalised geometry, and Poisson-Lie duality

We introduce the notion of G-algebroid, generalising both Lie and Courant algebroids, as well as the algebroids used in $E_{n(n)}\times\mathbb{R}^+$ exceptional generalised geometry for $n\in\{3,\dots,6\}$. Focusing on the exceptional case, we prove a classification of "exact" algebroids and translate the related classification of Leibniz parallelisable spaces into a tractable algebraic problem. After discussing the general notion of Poisson-Lie duality, we show that the Poisson-Lie U-duality is compatible with the equations of motion of supergravity.

On the Conformal Symmetry of Exceptional Scalar Theories

The DBI and special galileon theories exhibit a conformal symmetry at unphysical values of the spacetime dimension. We find the Lagrangian form of this symmetry. The special conformal transformations are non-linearly realized on the fields, even though conformal symmetry is unbroken. Commuting the conformal transformations with the extended shift symmetries, we find new symmetries, which when taken together with the conformal and shift symmetries close into a larger algebra. For DBI this larger algebra is the conformal algebra of the higher dimensional bulk in the brane embedding view of DBI. For the special galileon it is a real form of the special linear algebra. We also find the Weyl transformations corresponding to the conformal symmetries, as well as the necessary improvement terms to make the theories Weyl invariant, to second order in the coupling in the DBI case and to lowest order in the coupling in the special galileon case.

Information recovery from pure state geometries in 3D

It is a well-studied phenomenon in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ that pure states often appear 'too thermal' in the classical gravity limit, leading to a version of the information puzzle. One example is the case of a heavy scalar primary state, whose associated classical geometry is the BTZ black hole. Another example is provided by a heavy left-moving primary, which displays late time decay in chiral correlators. In this paper we study a special class of pure state geometries which do not display such information loss. They describe heavy CFT states created by a collection of chiral operators at various positions on the complex plane. In the bulk, these take the form of multi-centered solutions from the backreaction of a collection of spinning particles, which we construct for circular distributions of particles. We compute the two-point function of probe operators in these backgrounds and show that information is retrieved. We observe that the states for which our geometric picture is reliable are highly extended star-like objects in the bulk description. This may point to limitations of the semiclassical fuzzball picture of black hole microstates.

Multi-centered higher spin solutions from $W_N$ conformal blocks

Motivated by the question of bulk localization in holography, we study the problem of constructing multi-centered solutions in higher spin gravity which describe point particles in the interior of AdS$_3$. In the Chern-Simons formulation these take into account the backreaction after adding Wilson line sources. We focus on chiral solutions where only the left-moving sector is excited. In that case it is possible to choose a gauge where the dynamical variables are a set of Toda fields living in the bulk. The problem then reduces to solving the $\mathcal{A}_{N-1}$ Toda equations with delta function sources, which in turn requires solving an associated monodromy problem. We show that this monodromy problem is equivalent to the monodromy problem for a particular $\mathcal{W}_N$ vacuum conformal block at large central charge. Therefore, knowledge of the $\mathcal{W}_N$ vacuum block determines the multi-centered solution. Our calculations go beyond the heavy-light approximation by including the backreaction of all higher spin particles.
