Projectional Skeletons of Fourier Algebras

The preduals of $W^*$-algebras are 1-Plichko spaces. A natural question arises: does every predual possess a projectional skeleton (PS) $\{P_s:s\in J\}$ such that each $P_s^*$ is a conditional expectation? In this note, we answer this question affirmatively for the preduals of the group von Neumann algebras of locally compact groups.

Static Tidal Perturbations of Relativistic Stars: Corrected Center Expansion and Love Numbers-I

We revisit static tidal perturbations of relativistic stars with emphasis on two technical issues in the standard quadrupolar formulation. First, we derive the regular-center Frobenius expansion of the interior even-parity master function and obtain a corrected subleading coefficient, which differs from the expression commonly used in the literature. Second, we derive the static even-parity master equation on a Schwarzschild-de Sitter background, extending the usual asymptotically flat problem to a two-horizon geometry. To place these results on a common footing, we also show how the general interior even-parity system in Regge-Wheeler gauge reduces to the standard quadrupolar equation used in Love-number calculations. Numerical integrations for polytropic equations of state show that the corrected center coefficient affects only subleading initial data and leaves the extracted Love number $k_2$ unchanged within numerical accuracy. Taken together, these results fix the regular-center input to the standard quadrupolar problem and extend the static even-parity formalism to Schwarzschild-de Sitter backgrounds.

Two-local modifications of SYK model with quantum chaos

The Sachdev--Ye--Kitaev (SYK) model may provide us with a good starting point for the experimental study of quantum chaos and holography in the laboratory. Still, the four-local interaction of fermions makes quantum simulation challenging, and it would be good to search for simpler models that keep the essence. In this paper, we argue that the four-local interaction may not be important by introducing a few models that have two-local interactions. The first model is a generalization of the spin-SYK model, which is obtained by replacing the spin variables with SU($d$) generators. Simulations of this class of models might be straightforward on qudit-based quantum devices. We study the case of $d=3, 4, 5, 6$ numerically and observe quantum chaos already for two-local interactions in a wide energy range. We also introduce modifications of spin-SYK and SYK models that have similar structures to the SU($d$) model (e.g., $H=\sum_{p,q}J_{pq}χ_pχ_{p+1}χ_qχ_{q+1}$ instead of the original SYK Hamiltonian $H=\sum_{p,q,r,s}J_{pqrs}χ_pχ_qχ_rχ_{s}$), which shows strongly chaotic features although the interaction is essentially two-local. These models may be a good starting point for the quantum simulation of the original SYK model.

Variational Monte Carlo with Neural Network Quantum States for Yang-Mills Matrix Model

We apply the variational Monte Carlo method based on neural network quantum states, using a neural autoregressive flow architecture as our ansatz, to determine the ground state wave function of the bosonic SU($N$) Yang-Mills-type two-matrix model at strong coupling. Previous literature hinted at the inaccuracy of such an approach at strong coupling. In this work, the accuracy of the results is tested using lattice Monte Carlo simulations: we benchmark the expectation value of the energy of the ground state for system sizes $N$ that are beyond brute-force exact diagonalization methods. We observe that the variational method with neural network states reproduces the right ground state energy when the width of the network employed in this work is sufficiently large. We confirm that the correct result is obtained for $N=2$ and $3$, while obtaining a precise value for $N=4$ requires more resources than the amount available for this work.

Binary-coupling sparse SYK: an improved model of quantum chaos and holography

The sparse version of the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model reproduces essential features of the original SYK model while reducing the number of disorder parameters. In this paper, we propose a further simplification of the model which we call the binary-coupling sparse SYK model. We set the nonzero couplings to be $\pm 1$, rather than being sampled from a continuous distribution such as Gaussian. Remarkably, this simplification turns out to be an improvement: the binary-coupling model exhibits strong correlations in the spectrum, which is the important feature of the original SYK model that leads to the quick onset of the random-matrix universality, more efficiently in terms of the number of nonzero terms. This model is better suited for analog or digital quantum simulations of quantum chaotic behavior and holographic metals due to its simplicity and scaling properties.

Thermalization in massive deformations of Yang-Mills matrix models

We numerically study the classical evolution of a Yang-Mills matrix model with two distinct mass deformation terms, which can be contemplated as a massive deformation of the bosonic part of the BFSS model. Through numerical analysis, it is shown that when the simulations are started from a certain set of initial conditions, thermalization occurs. Besides, an estimation method is proposed to determine the approximate thermalization time. Using this method, we demonstrate that thermalization time vary logarithmically with increasing matrix size when the mass terms differ. Introducing a matrix configuration, we also obtain reduced actions and subsequently analyze how the thermalization time change as a function of the energy.

Entanglement dynamics of coupled oscillators from Gaussian states

In this work, we explore the dynamics of entanglement of an isolated quantum system consisting of two time-dependent, coupled harmonic oscillators. Through the use of a numerical method that relies on the estimation of the system's Wigner representation by a specific Gaussian function, we investigate the time evolution of the entanglement entropy after an instant quench in the inherent parameters of the system. Besides, from the comparison of the results obtained from the analytical expression for the time-dependent von Neumann entropy with the numerically computed entropy data, the effectiveness of the numerical method is tested for a variety of angular frequency combinations. Also, we analyze how the entropy of entanglement change as a function of time.

Weak Sequential Properties of the Multiplication Operators on Banach Algebras

Let $A$ be a Banach algebra. For $f\in A^{\ast}$, we inspect the weak sequential properties of the well-known map $T_f:A\to A^{\ast}$, $T_f(a) = fa$, where $fa\in A^{\ast}$ is defined by $fa(x) = f(ax)$ for all $x\in A$. We provide equivalent conditions for when $T_f$ is completely continuous for every $f\in A^{\ast}$, and for when $T_f$ maps weakly precompact sets onto L-sets for every $f\in A^{\ast}$. Our results have applications to the algebra of compact operators $K(X)$ on a Banach space $X$.

Stochastic Integral Operator Model for IS, US and WSSUS Channels

In this article, we proved that, under weak and natural requirements, uncorrelated scattering (in particular WSSUS) channels can be modeled as stochastic integrals. Moreover, if we assume (not only uncorrelated but also) independent scattering, then the stochastic integral kernel is an additive stochastic process. This allows us to decompose an IS channel into a sum of independent channels; one deterministic, one with a Gaussian kernel, and two others described by the Levy measure of the additive process.

Reconstruction and Estimation of Scattering Functions of Overspread Radar Targets

In many radar scenarios, the radar target or the medium is assumed to possess randomly varying parts. The properties of a target are described by a random process known as the spreading function. Its second order statistics under the WSSUS assumption are given by the scattering function. Recent developments in the operator identification theory suggest a channel sounding procedure that allows to determine the spreading function given complete statistical knowledge of the operator echo. We show that in a continuous model it is indeed theoretically possible to identify a scattering function of an overspread target given full statistics of a received echo from a single sounding by a custom weighted delta train. Our results apply whenever the scattering function is supported on a set of area less than one. Absent such complete statistics, we construct and analyze an estimator that can be used as a replacement of the averaged periodogram estimator in case of poor geometry of the support set of the scattering function.
