Information recovery from pure state geometries in 3D

It is a well-studied phenomenon in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ that pure states often appear 'too thermal' in the classical gravity limit, leading to a version of the information puzzle. One example is the case of a heavy scalar primary state, whose associated classical geometry is the BTZ black hole. Another example is provided by a heavy left-moving primary, which displays late time decay in chiral correlators. In this paper we study a special class of pure state geometries which do not display such information loss. They describe heavy CFT states created by a collection of chiral operators at various positions on the complex plane. In the bulk, these take the form of multi-centered solutions from the backreaction of a collection of spinning particles, which we construct for circular distributions of particles. We compute the two-point function of probe operators in these backgrounds and show that information is retrieved. We observe that the states for which our geometric picture is reliable are highly extended star-like objects in the bulk description. This may point to limitations of the semiclassical fuzzball picture of black hole microstates.

Multi-centered higher spin solutions from $W_N$ conformal blocks

Motivated by the question of bulk localization in holography, we study the problem of constructing multi-centered solutions in higher spin gravity which describe point particles in the interior of AdS$_3$. In the Chern-Simons formulation these take into account the backreaction after adding Wilson line sources. We focus on chiral solutions where only the left-moving sector is excited. In that case it is possible to choose a gauge where the dynamical variables are a set of Toda fields living in the bulk. The problem then reduces to solving the $\mathcal{A}_{N-1}$ Toda equations with delta function sources, which in turn requires solving an associated monodromy problem. We show that this monodromy problem is equivalent to the monodromy problem for a particular $\mathcal{W}_N$ vacuum conformal block at large central charge. Therefore, knowledge of the $\mathcal{W}_N$ vacuum block determines the multi-centered solution. Our calculations go beyond the heavy-light approximation by including the backreaction of all higher spin particles.

Baryon Superfluids in AdS/CFT with Flavor

Baryonic matter is notoriously difficult to deal with in the large-N limit, as baryons become operators of very large dimension with N fields in the fundamental representation. This issue is also present in gauge/gravity duals as baryons are described by very heavy localized objects. There are however alternative large-N extrapolations of QCD where small baryonic operators exist and can be treated on an equal footing to mesons. We explore the possibility of turning on a finite density of "light" baryons in a theory with a hadronic mass gap using a gauge/gravity construction based on the D3/D7 intersection. We find a novel phase with spontaneous breaking of baryon symmetry at zero temperature.

Superconformal Symmetry in the Kaluza-Klein Spectrum of Warped AdS(3)

We study the Kaluza-Klein spectrum of warped $AdS_3$ compactifications of type IIB with five-form flux which are dual to $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ SCFTs in two dimensions. We prove that the spectra of fluctuations of both the spin 2 sector of the graviton and the axio-dilaton are bounded. At the bound the modes have the correct quantum numbers to be chiral primaries and descendants thereof respectively. Moreover, we prove that the same modes give rise to superpartners in the dilatino spectrum. Our results show that a subset of the mesonic chiral ring of the dual SCFT is isomorphic to the first Kohn-Rossi cohomology groups. As an example, we consider the compactification of four-dimensional $Y^{p,q}$ theories on Riemann surfaces for the case of the universal twist. We conclude by studying fluctuations of the three-form, where we are able to identify Betti multiplets after imposing some mild assumptions.

(0,2) SCFTs from the Leigh-Strassler Fixed Point

We show that there is a family of two-dimensional $(0,2)$ SCFTs associated with twisted compactifications of the four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ Leigh-Strassler fixed point on a closed hyperbolic Riemann surface. We calculate the central charges for this class of theories using anomalies and $c$-extremization. In a suitable truncation of the five-dimensional maximal supergravity, we construct supersymmetric $AdS_3$ solutions that are holographic duals of those two-dimensional $(0,2)$ SCFTs. We also exhibit supersymmetric domain wall solutions that are holographically dual to the RG flows between the four-dimensional and two-dimensional theories.

Corrugated Multi-Supersheets

We explore the multi-superthreads and supersheets solutions of six-dimensional N=1 supergravity coupled to a tensor multiplet. The solutions carry D1-D5-P charges, but no Kaluza-Klein monopole. We lay down the formalism to construct multiple supersheets with arbitrary and independent profiles. The solution is by construction free of Dirac strings in contrast to the five-dimensional construction where one has to separately solve integrability conditions. We explore this formalism to construct supersheets that fluctuate in both directions allowing a more general choice of profiles. These new solutions are genuinely six-dimensional, singular, fluctuating BPS solutions and by analyzing them we expect to learn more about the conjectured superstrata. We also derive the conditions under which different supersheets can touch, or even intersect through each other.

Almost BPS but still not renormalized

A key feature of BPS multi-center solutions is that the equations controlling the positions of these centers are not renormalized as one goes from weak to strong coupling. In particular, this means that brane probes can capture the same information as the fully back-reacted supergravity solution. We investigate this non-renormalization property for non-supersymmetric, extremal "almost-BPS" solutions at intermediate coupling when one of the centers is considered as a probe in the background created by the other centers. We find that despite the lack of supersymmetry, the probe action reproduces exactly the equations underlying the fully back-reacted solution, which indicates that these equations also do not receive quantum corrections. In the course of our investigation we uncover the relation between the charge parameters of almost-BPS supergravity solutions and their quantized charges, which solves an old puzzle about the quantization of the charges of almost-BPS solutions.

Multi-Superthreads and Supersheets

We obtain new BPS solutions of six-dimensional, N = 1 supergravity coupled to a tensor multiplet. These solutions are sourced by multiple "superthreads" carrying D1-D5-P charges and two magnetic dipole charges. These new solutions are sourced by multiple threads with independent and arbitrary shapes and include new shape-shape interaction terms. Because the individual superthreads can be given independent profiles, the new solutions can be smeared together into continuous "supersheets," described by arbitrary functions of two variables. The supersheet solutions have singularities like those of the three-charge, two dipole-charge generalized supertube in five dimensions and we show how such five-dimensional solutions emerge from a very simple choice of profiles. The new solutions obtained here also represent an important step in finding superstrata, which are expected to play a role in the description of black-hole microstates, due to their ability to store a large amount of entropy in their two-dimensional profile.

Bubbling the Newly Grown Black Ring Hair

New families of BPS black ring solutions with four electric and four dipole magnetic charges have recently been explicitly constructed and uplifted to M-theory. These solutions were found to belong to a CFT with central charge different compared to the one of the STU model. Because of their importance to AdS/CFT, here we give the microstate description of these geometries in terms of topological bubbles and supertubes. The fourth charge results in an additional flux through the topological cycles that resolve the brane singularities. The analog of these solutions in the IIB frame yield a generalized regular supertube with three electric charges and one dipole charge. Direct comparison is also made with the previously-known bubbled geometries.

Mind the Gap: Supersymmetry Breaking in Scaling, Microstate Geometries

We use a multi-species supertube solution to construct an example of a scaling microstate geometry for non-BPS black rings in five dimensions. We obtain the asymptotic charges of the microstate geometry and show how the solution is related to the corresponding non-BPS black ring. The supersymmetry is broken in a very controlled manner using holonomy and this enables a close comparison with a scaling, BPS microstate geometry. Requiring that there are no closed time-like curves near the supertubes places additional restrictions on the moduli space of physical, non-BPS solutions when compared to their BPS analogs. For large holonomy the scaling non-BPS solution always has closed time-like curves while for smaller holonomy there is a "gap" in the non-BPS moduli space relative to the BPS counterpart.
