CCD () photometry of the open cluster NGC 6793 and its dynamical evolution

We present new astrophysical parameters for the open cluster NGC~6793 based on new CCD $UBV(RI)_{KC}$ photometry. We derived a reddening of $E(B-V) = 0.24 \pm 0.02$~mag and a heavy element abundance of $Z = 0.024$ ($[Fe/H] = +0.20$~dex). Padova isochrone fitting to the $V \times (B-V)$ colour-magnitude diagram yields an intermediate age of $525 \pm 51$~Myr and a distance modulus of $μ= 8.80 \pm 0.05$~mag, corresponding to a distance of $d = 575 \pm 58$~pc from the Sun. The core radius of NGC~6793 appears to be shrinking due to advanced dynamical evolution ($\logτ_{2} = 1.13$), driven by mass segregation and the evaporation of low-mass stars from the central region. The ratios of core to half-mass radius ($R_{c}/R_{h}$) and half-mass to Jacobi radius ($R_{h}/R_{J}$) indicate that the cluster's evolution is governed by the combined effects of internal two-body relaxation, mass segregation, and external tidal perturbations. The ratio $R_{t}/R_{J} = 0.99$ suggests that the cluster is currently in a tidally filling state. The parameter pairs ($t_{diss}/t_{rlx_{1}} = 40$, $\log R_{J}/R_{c} = 0.72$) and ($R_{h}/R_{J} = 0.38$, $\logρ_{amb} = -0.88$) place NGC~6793 among the relatively compact clusters within $R_{GC} < 7.9$~kpc. This implies a compact internal structure that is stable against the combined effects of two-body encounters and tidal heating. Given its current state, NGC~6793 will likely dissolve and disperse before entering the final contraction phase ($R_{4}$ regime).

Astrophysical Parameters and Dynamical Evolution of Open Clusters: NGC 2587, Col 268, Mel 72, Pismis 7

We determined astrophysical and dynamical parameters of the open clusters (OCs) NGC 2587, Collinder 268 (Col 268), Melotte 72 (Mel 72), and Pismis 7 from Gaia DR2 photometric/astrometric data and a new technique, fitCMD. fitCMD provides (Z, Age(Gyr)) as (0.025, 0.45) for NGC 2587, (0.0025, 0.5) for Col. 268, (0.011, 1.25) for Mel 72, and (0.008, 1.00) for Pismis 7, respectively. As compared to Gaia DR2 distances, the obtained photometric distances from fitCMD provide somewhat close distances. For NGC 2587 and Mel 72, both distances are in good concordance. Except for NGC 2587, the ages of the remaining OCs are higher than their relaxation times, which suggests that they are dynamically relaxed. NGC 2587 did not undergo dynamical evolution. Mel 72 and Pismis 7 with relatively flat MF slopes indicate signs of a somewhat advanced dynamical evolution, in the sense that they appear to have lost a significant fraction of their low-mass stars to the field. Pismis 7's negative/flat MFs indicates that its high mass stars slightly outnumber its low mass ones. Given its mild dynamical evolution, the high mass stars move towards the central region, while low-mass stars are continually being lost to the field. Col 268 presents small dimensions which suggest a primordial origin. The outer parts of Mel 72 and Pismis 7 - with large cluster radii expand with time, while Mel 72's core contracts because of dynamical relaxation (Figs. 10e--f).

Astrophysical and Structural Parameters, And Dynamical Evolution Of The Open Clusters NGC 1245 And NGC 2099

We derive astrophysical and structural parameters of open clusters NGC 1245 and NGC 2099 from 2MASS JHKs and Gaia DR2 photometric / astrometric data bases. Their likely members have been determined from Gaia DR2 proper motion data. Our E(B-V) values (2MASS) are slightly smaller than the literature values, whereas our E(B-V) values (Gaia DR2) agree with the literature within the uncertainties. Their distance moduli/distances and ages are in good coincident with the literature. NGC 1245 has steep negative core mass function slope (MFs) (χ_core=-1.24). Its halo (χ_halo=+0.78) and overall (χ_overall=-0.95) MFs mean that it presents signs of small-scale mass segregation to the outer regions from its core, due to its [τ_rlx (overall),τ_overall ]=[302 Myr,5]. The MFs of NGC 2099 is very negative steep (χ_core=-2.67) in the core, and quite positive steep (χ_halo=+1.41) in the halo. This kind of MF slope steeping from the core to the outskirts indicates that low-mass stars in the core are transferred to the cluster's outskirts, while massive stars sink in the core, because of mass segregation. NGC 2099's flat overall MFs (χ_overall=+0.91) and its τ_overall=8 presents a sign of mass segregation. These OCs with the relatively large masses 8700 Msolar (NGC 1245) and 5660 Msolar (NGC 2099), which locate at RGC > 9 kpc, expose to external perturbations such as tidal effects and shock waves, and they lose their stars in low-proportions.

A Dynamical Evolution Study of 40 2MASS Open Clusters

We investigate the dynamical evolution of 40 open clusters (OCs) by means of their astrophysical parameters derived from field-decontaminated 2MASS photometry. We find a bifurcation in the planes core radius vs. age and cluster radius vs. age, in which part of the clusters appear to expand with time probably due to the presence of stellar black holes while others seem to shrink due to dynamical relaxation. Mass functions (MFs) are built for 3$/$4 of the sample (31 OCs), which are used to search for indications of mass segregation and external dynamical processes by means of relations among astrophysical, structural and evolutionary parameters. We detect a flattening of MF slopes ocurring at the evolutionary parameters $τ_{core}\leq 32$ and $τ_{overall}\leq 30$, respectively. Within the uncertainties involved, the overall MF slopes of 14 out of 31 OCs with $m_{overall} > 500~M_{\odot}$ are consistent with Kroupa's initial mass function, implying little or no dynamical evolution for these clusters. The remaining 17 OCs with MF slopes departing from that of Kroupa show mild/large scale mass segregation due to dynamical evolution.
