The analytic structure of the lattice Landau gauge gluon and ghost propagators

Starting from the lattice Landau gauge gluon and ghost propagator data we use a sequence of Padé approximants, identify the poles and zeros for each approximant and map them into the analytic structure of the propagators. For the Landau gauge gluon propagator the Padé analysis identifies a pair of complex conjugate poles and a branch cut along the negative real axis of the Euclidean $p^2$ momenta. For the Landau gauge ghost propagator the Padé analysis shows a single pole at $p^2 = 0$ and a branch cut also along the negative real axis of the Euclidean $p^2$ momenta. The method gives precise estimates for the gluon complex poles, that agree well with other estimates found in the literature. For the branch cut the Padé analysis gives, at least, a rough estimate of the corresponding branch point.

The soft-gluon limit and the infrared enhancement of the quark-gluon vertex

The Schwinger-Dyson quark equation (SDE) combined with results from lattice simulation for the propagators are used to obtain information on the quark-gluon vertex, taking into account the recent full QCD lattice results for the soft-gluon limit. Its inclusion leads to a clear enhancement of the infrared quark-gluon vertex. We also find that the relative contribution of the quark-ghost kernel to the quark-gluon vertex in the infrared region does not follow the rules from the perturbative analysis of the ultraviolet region. This shows that for QCD the intuition based on perturbation theory does not apply to the full momentum range. The framework developed in the current work provides analytical expressions for all the longitudinal components of vertex taken into account.

The generalised infrared structure of the gluon propagator

Gauge theory correlators are potentially more singular in the infrared than those in non-gauge theories. We determine the implications that these singularities have on the spectrum of the theory, proving that the appearance of generalised poles implies the existence of on-shell states with fixed mass, but zero norm. For quantum chromodynamics these poles have direct relevance for the confinement of coloured states. Using lattice data for the Landau gauge gluon propagator we subsequently test for the presence of these poles, establishing that the data is indeed consistent with such a component.

Lattice computation of the quark propagator in Landau gauge at finite temperature

We report on the lattice computation of the quark propagator at finite temperature in the Landau gauge, using quenched gauge configurations. The propagator form factors are computed for various temperatures, above and below the gluon deconfinement temperature $T_c$, and for all the Matsubara frequencies. Our results suggest a strong connection between quark and gluon deconfinement and chiral symmetry restoration above $T_c$.

Spectral representation of lattice gluon and ghost propagators at zero temperature

We consider the analytic continuation of Euclidean propagator data obtained from 4D simulations to Minkowski space. In order to perform this continuation, the common approach is to first extract the Källén-Lehmann spectral density of the field. Once this is known, it can be extended to Minkowski space to yield the Minkowski propagator. However, obtaining the Källén-Lehmann spectral density from propagator data is a well known ill-posed numerical problem. To regularize this problem we implement an appropriate version of Tikhonov regularization supplemented with the Morozov discrepancy principle. We will then apply this to various toy model data to demonstrate the conditions of validity for this method, and finally to zero temperature gluon and ghost lattice QCD data. We carefully explain how to deal with the IR singularity of the massless ghost propagator. We also uncover the numerically different performance when using two ---mathematically equivalent--- versions of the Källén-Lehmann spectral integral.

Quark propagator with two flavors of O(a)-improved Wilson fermions

We compute the Landau gauge quark propagator from lattice QCD with two flavors of dynamical O(a)-improved Wilson fermions. The calculation is carried out with lattice spacings ranging from 0.06 fm to 0.08 fm, with quark masses corresponding to pion masses of 420, 290 and 150 MeV, and for volumes of up to (4.5fm)^4. Our ensembles allow us to evaluate lattice spacing, volume and quark mass effects. We find that the quark wave function which is suppressed in the infrared, is further suppressed as the quark mass is reduced, but the suppression is weakened as the volume is increased. The quark mass function M(p^2) shows only a weak volume dependence. Hypercubic artefacts beyond O(a) are reduced by applying both cylinder cuts and H4 extrapolations. The H4 extrapolation shifts the quark wave function systematically upwards but does not perform well for the mass function.

Finite Temperature Landau Gauge Lattice Quark Propagator

The quark propagator at finite temperature is investigated using quenched gauge configurations. The propagator form factors are investigated for temperatures above and below the gluon deconfinement temperature $T_c$ and for the various Matsubara frequencies. Significant differences between the functional behaviour below and above $T_c$ are observed both for the quark wave function and the running quark mass. The results for the running quark mass indicate a strong link between gluon dynamics, the mechanism for chiral symmetry breaking and the deconfinement mechanism. For temperatures above $T_c$ and for low momenta, our results support also a description of quarks as free quasi-particles.

Lattice Landau gauge quark propagator at finite temperature

We study the Landau gauge quark propagator, at finite temperature, using quenched lattice simulations. Special focus is given to the behaviour of the momentum space form factors across the confinement-deconfinement phase transition.

High Precision Statistical Landau Gauge Lattice Gluon Propagator Computation

We report on results for the Landau gauge gluon propagator computed from large statistical ensembles and look at the compatibility of the results with the Gribov-Zwanziger tree level prediction for its refined and very refined versions. Our results show that the data is well described by the tree level estimate only up to momenta $p \lesssim 1$ GeV, while clearly favouring the so-called Refined Gribov-Zwanziger scenario. We also provide a global fit of the lattice data which interpolates between the above scenario at low momenta and the usual continuum one-loop renormalisation improved perturbation theory after introducing an infrared log-regularizing term.

Faddeev-Popov Matrix in Linear Covariant Gauge: First Results

We discuss a possible definition of the Faddeev-Popov matrix for the minimal linear covariant gauge on the lattice and present first results for the ghost propagator. We consider Yang-Mills theory in four space-time dimensions, for SU(2) and SU(3) gauge groups.

High Precision Statistical Landau Gauge Lattice Gluon Propagator Computation vs. the Gribov-Zwanziger approach

The compatibility of the results from the Gribov-Zwanziger tree level prediction and lattice simulations, using large statistical ensembles, for the Landau gauge gluon propagator are investigated, thereby complementing earlier work using small-scale statistics. Our results show that the data is well described by the tree level estimate only up to momenta $p \lesssim 1$ GeV while clearly favoring the so-called Refined Gribov-Zwanziger scenario, implying particular relations between certain possible $d=2$ condensates. We also provide a global fit of the lattice data which interpolates between the above scenario at low momenta and the usual continuum one-loop renormalization improved perturbation theory after introducing an infrared log-regularizing term.

Exploring the Quark-Gluon Vertex with Slavnov-Taylor Identities and Lattice Simulations

The soft gluon limit of the longitudinal part of the quark-gluon vertex is studied by resorting to non-perturbative approaches to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). Based on a Slavnov-Taylor identity (STI), the longitudinal form factors is expressed in terms of the quark-ghost kernel, the quark self energy and the quark wave function. An exact relation between the non-vanishing longitudinal form factors is derived for the soft gluon limit and explored to understand the behaviour of the vertex. Within a Ball-Chiu vertex, the form factor $λ_1$ was analysed using recent lattice simulations for full QCD for the soft gluon limit. The lattice data shows that the gluon propagator resumes the momentum dependence of such component of the vertex. This connection is understood via a fully dressed one-loop Bethe-Salpeter equation. The behaviour of the remaining longitudinal form factors $λ_2(p^2)$ and $λ_3(p^2)$ is investigated combining both the information of lattice simulations and the derived relations based on the STI.

The lattice Landau gauge gluon propagator: lattice spacing and volume dependence

The interplay between the finite volume and finite lattice spacing is investigated using lattice QCD simulations to compute the Landau gauge gluon propagator. Comparing several ensembles with different lattice spacings and physical volumes, we conclude that the dominant effects, in the infrared region, are associated with the use of a finite lattice spacing. The simulations show that decreasing the lattice spacing, while keeping the same physical volume, leads to an enhancement of the infrared gluon propagator. In this sense, the data from $β=5.7$ simulations, which uses an $a \approx 0.18$ fm, provides a lower bound for the infinite volume propagator.

Reply to "Comment on 'Lattice Gluon and Ghost Propagators, and the Strong Coupling in Pure SU(3) Yang-Mills Theory: Finite Lattice Spacing and Volume Effects' "

The quenched gluon and ghost propagator data published in [1] is reanalysed following the suggestion of [2] to resolve the differences between the infrared data of the simulations. Our results confirms that the procedure works well either for the gluon or for the ghost propagator but not for both propagators simultaneously as the observed deviations in the data follow opposite patterns. Definitive conclusions require improving the determination of the (ratios) of lattice spacings. A simple procedure for the relative calibration of the lattice spacing in lattice simulations is suggested.
