Predict-prevent control method for perturbed excitable systems

We present a control method based on two steps: prediction and prevention. For prediction we use the anticipated synchronization scheme, considering unidirectional coupling between excitable systems in a master-slave configuration. The master is the perturbed system to be controlled, meanwhile the slave is an auxiliary system which is used to predict the master's behavior. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that an efficient control may be achieved.

Experimental study of imperfect phase synchronization in the forced Lorenz system

In this work we demonstrate for an experimental system, that exhibits the Lorenz butterfly attractor behavior, that perfect chaotic phase synchronization cannot be achieved in systems with an unbounded distribution of intrinsic time scales. Instead, imperfect phase synchronization is characterized by the occurrence of phase slips, associated to epochs of time during which the chaotic oscillator exhibits a slower time scale. Interestingly, during phase slips the chaotic oscillator keeps in sync with the drive, but with a different locking ratio.

Anticipated synchronization: a metaphorical linear view

We study the regime of anticipated synchronization recently described on a number of dynamical systems including chaotic and noisy ones. We use simple linear caricatures to show the minimal setups able to reproduce the basic facts described.

Fuzzy Control of Chaos

We introduce the idea of the fuzzy control of chaos: we show how fuzzy logic can be applied to the control of chaos, and provide an example of fuzzy control used to control chaos in Chua's circuit.
