Vorticity-dependent and symmetry-preserving LES models

Within the Large Eddy Simulation framework, we propose a methodology based on the Lie theory to derive symmetry-preserving turbulence models. We apply this methodology to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.} These models explicitly depend on both the filtered strain-rate tensor and the filtered vorticity tensor. Particular emphasis is placed on models that additionally ensure stability.

Some stability properties of Hamiltonian Poisson integrators

Hamiltonian Poisson integrators are Poisson integrators that admit a modified Hamiltonian. In this article, we illustrate the importance of the existence of a modified Hamiltonian for Poisson integrators in the context of integrable and non-integrable systems. Examples of Hamiltonian systems are provided by Lotka-Volterra dynamics; in order to investigate stability properties of Hamiltonian Poisson integrators on non-integrable systems, we exhibit a non-integrable $5$-dimensional Lotka-Volterra system and pursue numerical investigations of it.

Butcher series for Hamiltonian Poisson integrators through symplectic groupoids

We exhibit a new pre-Lie algebra in the framework of symplectic groupoids and, in turn, introduce a pre-Lie formalism of Butcher trees for the approximation of Hamilton-Jacobi solutions on any symplectic groupoid $\mathcal{G} \rightrightarrows M.$ The impact of this new algebraic approach is twofold. On the geometric side, it yields algebraic operations to approximate Lagrangian bisections of $\mathcal{G}$ using the Butcher-Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra and, in turn, aims at a better understanding of the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of $M.$ On the computational side, we define a new class of Poisson integrators for Hamiltonian dynamics on Poisson manifolds.

Timoshenko beam under finite and dynamic transformations: Lagrangian coordinates and Hamiltonian structures

In the framework of Timoshenko beam, the material parameters are inherently prescribed on the material moving frame. In this regard, we derive the strong and weak formulations of the dynamics under finite transformation in Lagrangian coordinates. Accordingly, analytical mechanics tools are used to deduce a new Hamiltonian formulation of the model which proves to be remarkably simple and synthetic.

Symplectic Groupoids for Poisson Integrators

We use local symplectic Lie groupoids to construct Poisson integrators for generic Poisson structures. More precisely, recursively obtained solutions of a Hamilton-Jacobi-like equation are interpreted as Lagrangian bisections in a neighborhood of the unit manifold, that, in turn, give Poisson integrators. We also insist on the role of the Magnus formula, in the context of Poisson geometry, for the backward analysis of such integrators.
