Resonances in asymptotically autonomous systems with a decaying chirped-frequency excitation

The influence of oscillatory perturbations on autonomous strongly nonlinear systems in the plane is investigated. It is assumed that the intensity of perturbations decays with time, and their frequency increases according to a power law. The long-term behaviour of perturbed trajectories is discussed. It is shown that, depending on the structure and the parameters of perturbations, there are at least two different asymptotic regimes: a phase locking and a phase drifting. In the case of phase locking, resonant solutions with an unlimitedly growing energy occur. The stability and asymptotics at infinity of such solutions are investigated. The proposed analysis is based on a combination of the averaging technique and the method of Lyapunov functions.

Damped perturbations of systems with centre-saddle bifurcation

An autonomous system of ordinary differential equations in the plane with a centre-saddle bifurcation is considered. The influence of time damped perturbations with power-law asymptotics is investigated. The particular solutions tending at infinity to the fixed points of the limiting system are considered. The stability of these solutions is analyzed when the bifurcation parameter of the unperturbed system takes critical and non-critical values. Conditions that ensure the persistence of the bifurcation in the perturbed system are described. When the bifurcation is broken, a pair of solutions tending to a degenerate fixed point of the limiting system appears in the critical case. It is shown that, depending on the structure and the parameters of the perturbations, one of these solutions can be stable, metastable or unstable, while the other solution is always unstable.

Bifurcations in asymptotically autonomous Hamiltonian systems under oscillatory perturbations

The effect of decaying oscillatory perturbations on autonomous Hamiltonian systems in the plane with a stable equilibrium is investigated. It is assumed that perturbations preserve the equilibrium and satisfy a resonance condition. The behaviour of the perturbed trajectories in the vicinity of the equilibrium is investigated. Depending on the structure of the perturbations, various asymptotic regimes at infinity in time are possible. In particular, a phase locking and a phase drifting can occur in the systems. The paper investigates the bifurcations associated with a change of Lyapunov stability of the equilibrium in both regimes. The proposed stability analysis is based on a combination of the averaging method and the construction of Lyapunov functions.

Autoresonance in oscillating systems with combined excitation and weak dissipation

A mathematical model describing the initial stage of the capture into autoresonance for nonlinear oscillating systems with combined parametric and external excitation is considered. The solutions with unboundedly growing amplitude and limited phase mismatch correspond to the autoresonant capture. The paper investigates the existence, stability and bifurcations of such solutions in the presence of a weak dissipation in the system. Our technique is based on the study of particular solutions with power-law asymptotics at infinity and the construction of suitable Lyapunov functions.

Bifurcations of autoresonant modes in oscillating systems with combined excitation

A mathematical model describing the capture of nonlinear systems into the autoresonance by a combined parametric and external periodic slowly varying perturbation is considered. The autoresonance phenomenon is associated with solutions having an unboundedly growing amplitude and a limited phase mismatch. The paper investigates the behaviour of such solutions when the parameters of the excitation pass through bifurcation values. In particular, the stability of different autoresonant modes is analyzed and the asymptotic approximations of autoresonant solutions on asymptotically long time intervals are proposed by a modified averaging method with using the constructed Lyapunov functions.

Asymptotic analysis of the autoresonance capture in oscillating systems with combined excitation

A mathematical model of autoresonance in nonlinear systems with combined parametric and external chirped frequency excitation is considered. Solutions with a growing amplitude and a bounded phase mismatch are associated with the autoresonant capture. By applying Lyapunov function method we investigate the conditions for the existence and stability of autoresonant modes and construct long-term asymptotics for stable solutions. In particular, we show that unstable regimes become stable when the system parameters pass through certain threshold values.

Capture into parametric autoresonance in the presence of noise

System of differential equations describing the initial stage of the capture of oscillatory systems into the parametric autoresonance is considered. Of special interest are solutions whose amplitude increases without bound with time. The possibility of capture the system into the autoresonance is related with the stability of such solutions. We study the stability of autoresonant solutions with respect to persistent perturbations of white noise type, and we show that under certain conditions on the intensity of the noise, the capture into parametric autoresonance is preserved with probability tending to one.

Stabilization of unstable autoresonant modes

A mathematical model describing the initial stage of the capture of oscillatory systems into autoresonance under the action of slowly varying pumping is considered. Solutions with an infinitely growing amplitude are associated with the autoresonance phenomenon. Stability of such solutions is of great importance because only stable solutions correspond to physically observable motions. We study the stabilizing problem and we show that the adiabatically varying parametric perturbation with decreasing amplitude in time can stabilize the unstable autoresonant modes.

White noise perturbation of locally stable dynamical systems

The influence of small random perturbations on a deterministic dynamical system with a locally stable equilibrium is considered. The perturbed system is described by the Itô stochastic differential equation. It is assumed that the noise does not vanish at the equilibrium. In this case the trajectories of the stochastic system may leave any bounded domain with probability one. We analyze the stochastic stability of the equilibrium under a persistent perturbation by white noise on an asymptotically long time interval $0\leq t\leq \mathcal O(μ^{-N})$, where $0<μ\ll 1$ is a perturbation parameter.

Stability of parametric autoresonance under random perturbations

A mathematical model describing the initial stage of the capture into the parametric autoresonance in nonlinear oscillating systems with a dissipation is considered. Solutions with unboundedly growing energy in time at infinity are associated with the autoresonance phenomenon. Stability of such solutions is investigated. We describe classes of admissible deterministic and random perturbations such that the stability of autoresonance is preserved on an asymptotically large interval.
