The Dixmier problem for skew PBW extensions and rings

In this paper we discuss for skew $PBW$ extensions the famous Dixmier problem formulated by Jacques Dixmier in 1968. The skew $PBW$ extensions are noncommutative rings of polynomial type and covers several algebras and rings arising in mathematical physics and noncommutative algebraic geometry. For this purpose, we introduce the Dixmier algebras and we will study the Dixmier problem for algebras over commutative rings, in particular, for $\mathbb{Z}$-algebras, i.e., for arbitrary rings. The results are focused on the investigation of the Dixmier problem for matrix algebras, product of algebras, tensor product of algebras and also on the Dixmier question for the following particular key skew $PBW$ extension: Let $K$ be a field of characteristic zero and let $\mathcal{CSD}_n(K)$ be the $K$-algebra generated by $n\geq 2$ elements $x_1,\dots,x_n$ subject to relations $$x_jx_i=x_ix_j+d_{ij}, \ for \ all \ 1\leq i<j\leq n, \ with \ d_{ij}\in K-\{0\}$$. We prove that the algebra $\mathcal{CSD}_n(K)$ is central and simple. In the last section we present a matrix-computational approach to the problem formulated by Jacques Dixmier and also we compute some concrete nontrivial examples of automorphisms of the first Weyl algebra $A_1(K)$ and $\mathcal{CSD}_n(K)$ using the MAPLE library SPBWE developed for the first author. We compute the inverses of these automorphisms, and for $A_1(K)$, its factorization through some elementary automorphisms. For $n$ odd, we found some endomorphisms of $\mathcal{CSD}_n(K)$ that are not automorphisms. We conjecture that $\mathcal{CSD}_n(K)$ is Dixmier when $n$ is even.

Noncommutative coding theory and algebraic sets for skew PBW extensions

The classical commutative coding theory has been recently extended to noncommutative rings of polynomial type. There are many interesting works in coding theory over single Ore extensions. In this review article we present the most relevant algebraic tools and properties of single Ore extensions used in noncommutative coding theory. The last section represents the novelty of the paper. We will discuss the algebraic sets arising in noncommutative coding theory but for skew $PBW$ extensions. These extensions conform a general class of noncommutative rings of polynomial type and cover several algebras arising in physics and noncommutative algebraic geometry, in particular, they cover the Ore extensions of endomorphism injective type and the polynomials rings over fields.

Algebraic sets, ideals of points and the Hilbert's Nullstellensatz theorem for skew PBW extensions

In this paper we define the algebraic sets and the ideal of points for bijective skew PBW extensions with coefficients in left Noetherian domains. Some properties of affine algebraic sets of commutative algebraic geometry will be extended, in particular, a Zariski topology will be constructed. Assuming additionally that the extension is quasi-commutative with polynomial center and the ring of coefficients is an algebraically closed field, we will prove an adapted version of the Hilbert's Nullstellensatz theorem that covers the classical one. The Gröbner bases of skew PBW extensions will be used for defining the algebraic sets and for proving the main theorem. Many key algebras and rings coming from mathematical physics and non-commutative algebraic geometry are skew PBW extensions.

The center of the total ring of fractions

Let $A$ be a right Ore domain, $Z(A)$ be the center of $A$ and $Q_r(A)$ be the right total ring of fractions of $A$. If $K$ is a field and $A$ is a $K$-algebra, in this short paper we prove that if $A$ is finitely generated and ${\rm GKdim}(A)<{\rm GKdim}(Z(A))+1$, then $Z(Q_r(A))\cong Q(Z(A))$. Many examples that illustrate the theorem are included, most of them within the skew $PBW$ extensions.

Gelfand-Kirillov dimension for rings

The classical Gelfand-Kirillov dimension for algebras over fields has been extended recently by J. Bell and J.J Zhang to algebras over commutative domains. However, the behavior of this new notion has not been enough investigated for the principal algebraic constructions as polynomial rings, matrix rings, localizations, filtered-graded rings, skew $PBW$ extensions, etc. In this paper, we present complete proofs of the computation of this more general dimension for the mentioned algebraic constructions for algebras over commutative domains. The Gelfand-Kirillov dimension for modules and the Gelfand-Kirillov transcendence degree will be also considered. The obtained results can be applied in particular to algebras over the ring of integers, i.e, to arbitrary rings.

Some open problems in the context of skew PBW extensions and semi-graded rings

In this paper we discuss some open problems of non-commutative algebra and non-commutative algebraic geometry from the approach of skew $PBW$ extensions and semi-graded rings. More exactly, we will analyze the isomorphism arising in the investigation of the Gelfand-Kirillov conjecture about the commutation between the center and the total ring of fractions of an Ore domain. The Serre's conjecture will be discussed for a particular class of skew $PBW$ extensions. The questions about the noetherianity and the Zariski cancellation property of Artin-Schelter regular algebras will be reformulated for semi-graded rings. Advances for the solution of some of the problems are included.

Computation of point modules of finitely semi-graded rings

In this paper we compute the set of point modules of finitely semi-graded rings. In particular, from the parametrization of the point modules for the quantum affine n-space, the set of point modules for some important examples of non $\mathbb{N}$-graded quantum algebras is computed.

Elementary matrix-computational proof of Quillen-Suslin theorem for Ore extensions

In this short note we present an elementary matrix-constructive proof of Quillen-Suslin theorem for Ore extensions: If $K$ is a division ring and $A:=K[x;σ,δ]$ is an Ore extension, with $σ$ bijective, then every finitely generated projective $A$-module is free. We will show an algorithm that computes the basis of a given finitely generated projective module. The algorithm has been implemented in a computational package, and some illustrative examples are included.

Nakayama automorphism of quasi-commutative skew PBW extensions over AS-regular algebras

Graded quasi-commutative skew PBW extensions are isomorphic to graded iterated Ore extensions of endomorphism type, whence graded quasi-commutative skew PBW extensions with coefficients in AS-regular algebras are skew Calabi-Yau and the Nakayama automorphism exists for these extensions. With this in mind, in this paper we give a description of Nakayama automorphism for these non-commutative algebras using the Nakayama automorphism of the ring of the coefficients.

Computing finite presentations of Tor and Ext over skew PBW extensions and some applications

In this paper we compute the $Tor$ and $Ext$ modules over skew $PBW$ extensions. If $A$ is a bijective skew $PBW$ extension of a ring $R$, we give presentations of $Tor_r^{A}(M,N)$, where $M$ is a finitely generated centralizing subbimodule of $A^m$, $m\geq 1$, and $N$ is a left $A$-submodule of $A^l$, $l\geq 1$. In the case of $Ext_A^{r}(M,N)$, $M$ is a left $A$-submodule of $A^m$ and $N$ is a finitely generated centralizing subbimodule of $A^l$. As application of these computations, we test stably-freeness, reflexiveness, and we will compute also the torsion, the dual and the grade of a given submodule of $A^m$. Skew $PBW$ extensions include many important classes of non-commutative rings and algebras arising in quantum mechanics, for example, Weyl algebras, enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras (and its quantization), Artamonov quantum polynomials, diffusion algebras, Manin algebra of quantum matrices, among many others.

Non-commutative algebraic geometry of semi-graded rings

In this paper we introduce the semi-graded rings, which extend graded rings and skew PBW extensions. For this new type of non-commutative rings we will discuss some basic problems of non-commutative algebraic geometry. In particular, we will prove some elementary properties of the generalized Hilbert series, Hilbert polynomial and Gelfand-Kirillov dimension. We will extended the notion of non-commutative projective scheme to the case of semi-graded rings and we generalize the Serre-Artin-Zhang-Verevkin theorem. Some examples are included at the end of the paper.

Some homological properties of skew PBW extensions arising in non-commutative algebraic geometry

In this short paper we study for the skew PBW (Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt) extensions some homological properties arising in non-commutative algebraic geometry, namely, Auslander-Gorenstein regularity, Cohen-Macaulayness and strongly noetherianity. Skew PBW extensions include a considerable number of non-commutative rings of polynomial type such that classical PBW extensions, quantum polynomial rings, multiplicative analogue of the Weyl algebra, some Sklyanin algebras, operator algebras, diffusion algebras, quadratic algebras in 3 variables, among many others. For some key examples we present the parametrization of its point modules.

Projective modules and Gröbner bases for skew PBW extensions

Many rings and algebras arising in quantum mechanics, algebraic analysis, and non-commutative algebraic geometry can be interpreted as skew PBW (Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt) extensions. In the present paper we study two aspects of these non-commutative rings: its finitely generated projective modules from a matrix-constructive approach, and the construction of the Gröbner theory for its left ideals and modules. These two topics could be interesting in future eventual applications of skew $PBW$ extensions in functional linear systems and in non-commutative algebraic geometry.

Extended modules and Ore extensions

In this paper we investigate extended modules for a special class of Ore extensions. We will assume that $R$ is a ring and $A$ will denote the Ore extension $A:=R[x_1,\dots,x_n;σ]$ for which $σ$ is an automorphism of $R$, $x_ix_j=x_jx_i$ and $x_ir=σ(r)x_i$, for every $1\leq i,j\leq n$. With some extra conditions over the ring $R$, we will prove Vaserstein's, Quillen's patching, Horrocks' and Quillen-Suslin's theorems for this type of non-commutative rings.

Gröbner bases of modules over sigma-PBW extensions

For sigma-PWB extensions, we extend to modules the theory of Gröbner bases of left ideals presented in [5]. As an application, if A is a bijective quasi-commutative sigma-PWB extension, we compute the module of syzygies of a submodule of the free module A^m.

Universal property of skew $PBW$ extensions

In this paper we prove the universal property of skew $PBW$ extensions generalizing this way the well known universal property of skew polynomial rings. For this, we will show first a result about the existence of this class of non-commutative rings. Skew $PBW$ extensions include as particular examples Weyl algebras, enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras (and its quantization), Artamonov quantum polynomials, diffusion algebras, Manin algebra of quantum matrices, among many others. As a corollary we will give a new short proof of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem about the bases of enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras.

d-Hermite rings and skew PBW extensions

Many rings and algebras arising in quantum mechanics can be interpreted as skew PBW (Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt) extensions. Indeed, Weyl algebras, enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras (and its quantization), Artamonov quantum polynomials, diffusion algebras, Manin algebra of quantum matrices, among many others, are examples of skew PBW extensions. In this short paper we study the d-Hermite condition about stably free modules for skew PBW extensions. For this purpose, we estimate the stable rank of these non-commutative rings. In addition, and close related with these questions, we will prove the Kronecker's theorem about the radical of finitely generated ideals for some particular types of skew PBW extensions.

Prime ideals of skew PBW extensions

In this paper we describe the prime ideals of some important classes of skew PBW extensions, using the classical technique of extending and contracting ideals. Skew PBW extensions include as particular examples Weyl algebras, enveloping algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras (and its quantization), Artamonov quantum polynomials, diffusion algebras, Manin algebra of quantum matrices, among many others.
